You are joking, right? He only had 4 shots of Invincible at that point and does relatively neglibible damage with the only attacks he has enough will for early, not to mention he has trouble hitting the guy in the first place.

That you're allowed to lose that fight generally ameliorates my hatred for it anyway, although as far as I remember it lists that you're not allowed to let Van die in the map conditions, which is kind of working at opposite ends to that.

Looking back over the Zoids I see a lot of them do have long range C attacks. I am unsure how I never noticed that, but I would hazard that it may be due to pretty much always having them all paired up.

OG2 - Chapter 32. Ratsel is broken. Soooo broken. It's rather mindblowing.

FF6 Eviltype - Livinlarav is full of crap. Using Sabin/Relm/Gau as my Hatbot-chosen FC team, and Sabin is obviously the LVP. Though part of this is the new Memento Ring being hax. Anyway, two resets on the FC approach bosses so far, they are pretty bitchy but it's entirely due to my own careless mistakes that I lost each time.

PS4 LLG - As I said last night in chat, VICTORY IS MINE. ^_____^

GameFAQs link to the whole story

Beaten with an average level of 28: 32 Kyra, 29 Rika, 28 Wren, 26 Chaz, 25 Rune. 42 resets on PD alone. Over 100 resets total on bosses alone. Probably over 200 once you factor in randoms, I didn't count those. Certainly one of the hardest challenges I have ever done, I had to level up for four bosses (Juza, Lashiec, DF2, PD), but I enjoyed it a lot. <3 Rika and Wren.

Next up: GRANDIA THREE CHALLENGE? Maybe. I'm getting increasingly masochistic in my old age. MMX8 is definitely first, though.

MK - On the other spectrum of challenge, here we come. C5, synthed a bunch of stuff because that's what you damned well do when a chapter begins. I wish common magic was better, it'd give Anna more of a niche with the whole "first PC to get MGK+ L on a weapon" thingy for damn near free. Why are Pendelooks available so early?

EDIT: Congrats on the LLG completion, NEB. You're absolutely insane for making it that far, but at least it was a pretty damned fun read. Never thought I'd see PS4 mechanics delved into with such depth for actual practical purposes, if nothing else.

Well, after being away on weekends and generally not getting around to it for a month, I finally finished Dreamfall.  Total number of playsessions: Three.  A short game that is also gripping such that I generally played for a long time each session, and not too many places to get stuck.

Final conclusion: An excellent interactive novel.  The gameplay elements are, with the stupid stealth exception mentioned before, innocuous and mostly non-existent.  I do have to wonder if they were always planning for it to be a trilogy, though - lots of elements suggest that the game was shoved out the door (the, uh, missing gameplay parts most noticeably) but it seems like the plot could still have wrapped up fairly fast.  Instead of taking the very dark turn that the game does in the last 2 hours or so, just have Our Heroes meet up and go to the Big Evil Tower and settle things.  Kian's character arc also switched a lot faster than I would have expected, but since they were literally out of time, I suppose it's fair enough.

Got a few plot elements I'm a real fan of, and wanted to use myself, actually.  Some nice creepy bits too.  So yeah, generally high marks.  The gigantic cliffhanger ending would be cause for extreme death, but it seems that they ARE coming out with Dreamfall Chapters to finish the story, which is good so that things won't remain in limbo forever.

Also, Grefter: Hey, you do get to use the lockpick again.  It's on the car in St. Petersburg you need to move to climb up into the abandoned building.  That said, yeah, the gameplay puzzles are BLATANTLY lacking / nonexistent in the second half of the game.

The game Dreamfall most reminds me of is Hotel Dusk: Room 215, actually.  I know I've seen the "Do video games have quality plots?" argument here before, but Hotel Dusk is one of the very very few game plots which authentically could be that of a good movie or novel.  TLJ / Dreamfall are certainly the grounds for a good fantasy novel, too, of course.  And Hotel Dusk also totally fails at gameplay, just like Dreamfall.  So... yeah.

Next on the PC backlog radar: Heroes of Might & Magic V, probably.  Not really in the mood to try Deus Ex 2 just yet, and KOTOR2 is supposed to be painfully easy.

Fair enough on the lockpick game.  Still woooooo >_>  To be frank, the games probably would prove better as novels at this point, they could at least come out then.

Deus Ex 2 is painfully easy as well.  HoMaM 5 is alright though.  Out of the lot KotOR2 is the best of the lot, but if you want some Gameplay then HoMaM is the one to go with.

Edit - Oh if you do get around to it, DE2, use the tranq gun.

Mana Khemia- Started. On Chapter Two, class two. Lost to first boss because a) night and b) no SPsssss! >_> Second boss was also night but I won. Battle wise don't really have an opinion of Vayne yet, Jess is my MVP which will probably change soon (yeah Nikki's fast but she doesn't have omg overkill hax yet) Synthing with Jess and Nikki is fun~

Game came with the original soundtrack too which is <3

Dokapon Journey: Story Mode. 47 Weeks passed, WEDnesday.

I'm at 1st Place, total asset at 3,732,853G, towns worth 1,502,400G and on my person 2,230,453G respectively.
At 2nd is a fighter dude with 1,003,830G total asset
At 3rd is a witch with 386,104G total asset
And at 4th is a Thief named Constable (such fit!) with a dirt cheap 114,767G asset.

Okay, one thing with this game is that it's hilariously easy to break. I'm at Lv 49, with the NEXT highest level being only 28??? Hell, lowest level player is 19. :V I think like in one more fight I hit Lv50? I gained two levels in like 6 fights. :V My gear is so updated, if I get an AT Ring, my ATK is most likely to break 200, which is very, VERY high >_> Probably can OHKO many things with Strike and 2HKO high DEF mobs with a middling HP >_> Durability is a question here, high HP and DEF is essential, it IS the difference between an OHKO and a 2HKO. And predicting your opponent's move. Counter is the best if they do a strike, you don't get hurt PLUS you pull off the counter successfully and so forth.

Star Ocean 4:  "Your next goal is to go through this hard to navigate forest to get back to this town.  Go to this lake so you can get this SPESHUL plant that will act as a compass!"

...so the game isn't pulling any blows when it comes to fetch quests, hurrah.  Also, its most definitely NOT recycling SO1's little crisis where people are turning the stone and the "Aliens" which are your main characters, one of whom happens to be an Archer even, has to help solve this problem!

...ok, to be fair, I'm being too hard on this game.  This was obviously intended to be a nod to SO1's initial crisis, and would explain why the Ronixis/Iria were confident they could save Roak since it'd make sense if the Earth Federation dealt with shit like this in the past SUCCESSFULLY, rather than just being all "Hey we can heal stone with TECHNOLOGY!!!"  So I guess from a continuity standpoint it makes sense...or something.

Battle system remains a step down from SO3 in a number of ways.  The game is also really damned easy, beyond that first boss fight who was a total prick (the armored shell thing where you first get Faize.)  That, and the camera angle thing is still a bitch.  Don't know how irksome it gets walking out into another room, being focused on Edge's side CLOSE UP, and suddenly you get attacked by an enemy YOU CAN'T SEE purely cause of how the camera is positioned.  Just lucky the game is so easy right now that things aren't a big deal.

As far as Faize and Lymle go...
Faize feels Marty-stuish.  He seems too...perfect.  Young kid, "incredible potential", is from a race with better technology than humans, super friendly and nice, modest...I feel like they tossed in the "Lymle doesn't like him!" thing purely so he would have SOME problem, if minor, but...uhh...yeah.  Maybe they're aiming for a foil for Edge, I guess, cause Edge is all enthusiastic while Faize is more mellow.

Lymle...well, I'll give SO4 credit for making the little girl NOT COMPLETELY HYPERACTIVE for once.  Going just for pure cutesy is fresh, I guess, but I'm not sure she's exactly likable?  The voice acting feels almost completely emotionless, though this may be on purpose (they did toss an aspect of her past that could be used in such a way to explain why she is this way, after all, just kept the details and such vague enough at the same time), so I'll reserve judgment for now.  Her constant usage of "'kay" does get a bit annoying though; I understand they wanted to give her a catchphrase or dialog quirk, but please, don't over use it!

End of chapter bosses (and other plot bosses) don't get boosts from night, which that second boss is.

Meeple: Yeah, you're pretty correct on Faize, really.  He seemed like an Edge foil to me.  I think Lymle disliking him was because A) SO4 ATTEMPTING HUMOR (Hint: it fails) and B) Lymle's smart and Faize sucks (for reasons you already mentioned).

Lymle's VA was clearly intended.  Personally, I thought it fit well enough.  Also, you may want to check out the encyclopedia entries on characters, as they do mention some things you don't hear in-game (or at least not that I noticed).  Of course, that's if you care about SO4 CHARACTERIZATION.

Actually, Lymle was one of the better characters in the game.

P.S. 'kay?

So I've got fully working Saturn emulation going on my computer, finally (thanks, Xer!). Hence, something I've been looking forward to for a while:

Radiant Silvergun - NO REFUGE.

It's what I expect from a Treasure shooter - meticulously designed and really damned hard. The weapon system is elegant and works really well (still need to get a feel for the homing weapons, though), and, amusingly, owes a debt to Gunstar Heroes of all things with the weapon combos.

At some point I'm going to do another run through the Shining Force III trilogy too, now that I can use the English patches. Yay.

I... agree with Rob?

Well, I don't have any profanities to hurl at Tal for his opinion, but I certainly didn't like Lym. She had maybe one scene that was funny and her 'development' as a character felt really forced and she only seemed to grow more attached to people, she didn't really mature as a person... which when you consider how she starts, it really should have been the direction they took with her.

The continuity nods are the best part of SO4, enjoy them as much as possible. Pay special attention to the 'we're-totally-not-Nedians'.

Also, my personal favorite character was the robot-guy. Filled his role well and got one funny scene with Welsh.

Spoilery I've been reading translations lately, and I have this theory that the Eldarians, who give up their technology and civilization at the end of the game to go live on an underdeveloped planet, are the inhabitants of Vanguard from SO3 (the pointy-eared village folk from that first planet Fayt ends up on). Any official indication of this  ?

To Djinn

No, but there are a list of indirect evidence saying Eldarians are Mu descent.
First we know Eldarians are seeking their paradise, Lemuria. We know what happened to ancient continents on Earth. The Mu continent got blown to Roak, Atlantis got blown to Edifis, and logical thinking should tell us what happened to Lemuria. Plus, people on Lemuric and Eldar, who have the same origin, can cast healing spells, which is what Mu people can do by being possible Nedian descent. Then you added the comments from the lizard men, I think the answer is fairly obvious.

As for Lym... outside the "I like Faize" kidan came out of nowhere, I didn't find her to be offensive. If anything, somewhat realistic consider her mental age when the twists regarding Faize occured. The scene where she kicks the chair, I find that to be one of th ebetter scene in game.

SO4: We have left the planet, now with +1 little girls than we came there with!  We have landed on another "planet" which is more just a huge fucking orbital space station complete with a tractor beam, inhabited Lizard Aliens, bent on Galactic Domination ("Forceful Colonization" essentially means that, lets face it), whom seem to have captured us cause they're a bunch of douches, and now we have to fight our way to the center to figure out shit, in addition to turning off that Tractor beam so we can leave.

...if that isn't one hell of a cliched sci-fi scenario for our heroes to be stuck in (...barring maybe the little girl part), I don't know what is.

Also, I had some slight hope that the Caronians would be actually friendly Demi-human alien folk for once, given the tragic camera scene and what not...but no, instead they just had to go down the route of "They're ugly, they're lizards, they're anthropomorphic and they have advanced technology, OF COURSE they're a bunch of evil fuck nuts!"

Oh yeah, didn't get a chance to do it before, so I'll do it now!

Treasure Hunt is win.  It was a real bitch running around finding treasures cause they could be anywhere, ESPECIALLY since the way the map is laid out, its easy to accidentally forget if you've been in a room or not, but then the game gives you a skill that gives you convenient icons across the map, which makes life so much easier.  Now I don't have to run around a huge fucking field just looking for obscure chests!

I will also give the game credit for bringing back an Event EXP type system that VP1 put in and no other Tri-Ace game since used.  Doing random shit, even opening chests giving you piddling EXP and some SP, just cause you went out of your way to do it(even if its forced in some cases)?  Yes, yes thank you.  It is funny seeing you gain like 9 EXP, though, and then suddenly you get a level up screen out of battle <_<

OG2 - Seriously, game, ambushing me with five bosses at once FE6-style is rude. What does it say about the cheese in this game that I actually survived it! after 2 resets

MMX8 - Yep! Meeple can stop harrassing me now. I am finally playing both games I received at DLCon!

Anyway, this game is awesome. Except for Gigavolt Man-o-War's level. That is lame. When I want to play a bad Star Fox clone... actually, I don't want to play a bad Star Fox clone. Screw that. The other vehicle level was fine if not amazing. Stage design otherwise varies but is very good at its peak (Gravity Antonion's stage perhaps?) and never bad. In general stages seemed harder in this game than is usual for MMX, which tends to be a formality before the boss in many cases. Boss fights are awesome as always, though due to repeated failures on stages I built up a lot of money and now have maxed health and weakness-raped the last few bosses anyway. Still, they seemed promising before that! All mavericks are beaten, if it's not clear - haven't done the Sigma stages yet (oh wait the villain this time is Vile I forgot). I really like the options of the three characters and the ability to switch between them - all three handle very differently, so it's fun, even if X feels like he's still the best choice... of course I may just be used to his playstyle.

Also, about damn time MM games added a clock. A bit over 5 hours in.

At least you can essentially gameplay skip Gigabolt Manowar's stage by upgrading your weapon gauge twice. Past that, I absolutely can't defend it. Have you managed to loop the town twice and get the game's "screw you~" maneuver? It's sorta funny the first time. And X sorta is the best choice overall, apart from maybe Blast Launcher Axl against randoms (against bosses, it's a no-brainer). X Buster is just waaaaaaaay too damaging.

EDIT: Also, X's capsule upgrades are rather stupid this time around, but you generally don't give a fuck about those. >_>

Yeah, that's why you try and flush them out on your turn.  Know that that's what I did on my most recent playthrough.  Meant that I only had the bosses to deal with and not their support thanks to Aya/Kusuha/Lune Map/Strike/Valor spam.  Masaki was off somewhere else having gotten me that turn with a S/V Cyflash on the last group of grunts.  If you don't care about the Skill Point, just let one scrub survive and kill it off with someone you don't care about too much.  Granted, still needed to get lucky on a few evasions, but it also gave me time to spam Lefina's Trust and the Repair Module I gave her.

As for what I have been playing, updated my AG ISO and burned it, also modded my PS2 so that I can play PSX games (may also be theoretically possible to play PS2 games with the method I'm using, but haven't bothered to try yet.  Maybe if I ever care about OGs) that do not exist here.  Regardless, effectively finished with episode 6 which just needs some cleanup.  Have gotten all of the Skill Points so far, though not looking forward to the next one, as I recall it previously needed me to pull out a crit to land it.  And the PSX means no save states.  It also means no slowdown so I can enjoy the flashiness and voices.  Sadly, this is where I am likely to remain for a while as AG is not why I did all this.  LFT is, and I'm going to be writing about those adventures elsewhere, for all that I have started a file which has, oddly enough, picked up a Suiko 1 theme after the first generic I recruited was named Viktor.

In non vaguely piracy related news, finished Persona 4.  Definatly a good game, for all that I was sick and tired of seeing that final video by the time I had gotten the real ending.  ie. got the Kinda mediocre ending, the good ending, and then the best one.  Still only got about half the social links maxed, though I didn't even manage to find four of them to start them until mid-late October.  Naturally, a bit late by then.  Though, S Link growth does look a little bit less predictable for when they're available, so at least it's more of an art than P3, where it should be pretty easy to schedule, even if you do have more to get done in P3.  (Well, 1 more, but there's more Sunday stuff and less night stuff so it really does balance).

Main plot?  Definatly interesting, with the whole murder mystery aspect, and the motivations of the good ending are oddly refreshing and mildly understandable.  Not that you're tempted to disagree with the party's reaction at all.  Best ending...  didn't feel tacked on.  I'll give it that much.  It just evoked a reaction of "Wait, what?" and "Why?"  At least in 3 the final boss felt more like a sentient force of nature than anything I could understand, whereas this, did not.

Gameplay changes took some getting used to, especially the rejigged costs and the pruning down of physical elements.  This led to a lot of physical skills honestly getting devalued and pruned quickly, since there's only so many ways to deal Medium Phys damage needed, while Bufula, Garula and Zionga all cohabitate very nicely with each other.  They were still a good way to pump damage out with an easily replenished cost, just, you'd pick one, scrap the rest, and call it a day as opposed to actually wanting different options in P3.  Especially since when weaknesses came up, there was no guarantee that I'd have somebody with that weapon type in the party, and I'm a) not going to equip a scrubby weapon of a type I can't reliably avoid ambush with on Minato, and b) too lazy to give up my progress just to stick an appropriate person into my party.  Especially is it's Strike and I feel Akihiko was overlevelled.  But, the fact that I could control my party members, along with pick and choose what skills they kept was wonderful.  No more random status whoring burning through SP reserves.  Random abilities picked up through S Link growth was also nice.  It certainly made the enemies with no weaknesses a lot more tolerable thanks to the fact that there was now a decent chance of someone knocking them down for me.  (Assuming Yosuke/Kanji didn't pipe up.  Those two had the bad habit of not always going after the standing foes)  Same with the higher level abilities.  Hmm, suppose the last thing worth mentioning is Ma skills now giving advantage if they hit even one person with weakness which, meh.  I liked the way they worked in 3 a fair bit.  You got to save on SP, but you had the risk of missing.  Or, even, you got to do damage to everything, but you gave up the One More if it was into mixed company.  Also meant that you didn't get hosed for having someone with an elemental weakness.  I know that I certainly kept a goto Persona with Null/Repel Ice on me at all times in the late game because with her access to the Media series, and insane SP pool Yukiko was almost always in my party (doesn't hurt that the only other PC with the Medias has forced S Link progression while you can have her maxed for Maru Q.

As for PCs themselves.  Kanji was my favourite.  Just a fun character, nicely expressive, and probably had the most growth over the course of the game.  Yosuke is probably my second favourite, and it definatly helped that the two of them played off of each other constantly.  Hell, their conversation after I picked Yosuke at the Group Date Cafe was the highlight of the School Festival.  After that, probably Dojima, Rise, Chie, Yukiko and Naoto in that order, with Nanako coming in very far behind.  Nanako...  oddly enough not because I found her to be horribly annoying, she was, but nothing I couldn't shrug off, but because everyone else couldn't shut up about her.  By mid-november I was thoroughly sick and tired of hearing Nanako-Chan repeated at least a dozen times each scene.  As for Naoto, I think it's just my standard dislike of "smart" characters whose intelligence is never actually shown, but is a property given so that they can do plot exposition.  Generally, this works better when your first response to their insights isn't "So why didn't you figure that out two months ago like I did?"

To finish all of this off, I kinda still want to compare it with P3 thanks to all the similar trappings, despite that fact that they go their own way with them.   So, I'll just leave it at a vague I do prefer P3 more.  But, P4 itself is probably an 8/10 worthy game, and one that will definatly get a replay.  Maybe in 2011.
