Ah... well, she definitely is supposed to look like Kairi. Though no, not a literal clone of Kairi.

Nope, that is out right incorrect.

KHDS - Spoilery
From what I understand, she is supposed to formed from Sora's memories of Kairi. So yes, technically, she was supposed to be Sora, but ended up more of a Kairi clone in practice. Or some kind of bastardized love-child of the two of them...

My only problem with KH plot (aside from odd implementation of Disney characters in a Nomura setting, but they're hardly an important part of the plot anyway) is that hovers between 'too literal' and 'not literal enough' in the ways it uses concepts like 'hearts' and 'existence'.

And it's really pretentious about it, but it seems somewhat self-aware of that fact a la DMC at times, so it works for me.

...
I should probably talk about what games I'm playing at this point, but I've started reading Terry Pratchett books instead of playing games this week... >.>;;

It's Nomura. There is no way it is in any way self-aware. The dude wouldn't know a lampshade if he watched someone wearing one while they fucked his mother.

Beyond the Beyond - Got to Castle Marion's town or whatever.  Random encounter rate is too high, APS system is impossible to figure out, and graphics have no excuse being THAT bad (comparison?  I'm thinking FFIV had better graphics).

Just gets worse.

S3 - Lots of dicking around! Viki is helpful in this regard. Also, Open Gate's ID is indeed rather accurate: it went 11/14 so far off Little Viki's B+, most of these being against updated Copper Suns in the Flame Champion Hideaway. Also maimed a bunch of wildlife with it, but those were more pathetic. Too bad it's a sluggish spell unless you use it at levels you'll NEVER GET. Thanks a lot, S3.

Again no, she is various fragments of Sora's memory pieced together, and everyone sees her differently depends on how they echo with Sora's memory. For example, Saix, who has no connection to Sora what so ever, sees Xion as a faceless doll. Riku obviously sees Kairi. Axel and Roxas see Xion as who she is as they acknowledge her as an individual. Now.. here comes the crazy part... Xigbar sees Xion as Vent. Yes, the Roxas look a like in BbS. So the question here is... how the fuck did Sora know Vent?

KH 358/2- Lea... what can I say now. In Chinese we have a saying, "chewing what's in the mouth but stares at what's in the bowl." It must be jealousy that Saix wants you dead so much in KH2 or maybe he is just hating himself for sending you to the Castle Oblivion in the first place.

You can just hit start and scroll through the menus I thought, if you're playing the DS port. Also you can push A button to slash things you know. Charging works if you use stylus controls.

I can't find any way to scroll through the menus aside from using the L/R buttons I am afraid.

I wouldn't have gotten too far if I hadn't known that >_> The sword does not have the best range in the world, and having the option to inflict crash damage is generally always a good thing.

BtB - List of things I did:

Retrieved Prince Edward (no, not the spoony bard or ninja)
Solved an actually easy (comparatively) puzzle at a border church
Lost Percy in the following tunnel
Finally figured out how to make the APS work for me
Breezed through a whole bunch of easy puzzles in a giant tree
Got lost in some sewers (and by got lost, I meant I took a wrong turn and had to start the whole dungeon over)
Got kicked out of the castle by an evil royal advisor
Acquired a Magic Bean
Saved and quit for the night/morning.

I mean, geez...  Wow, my hand hurts from actually messing around with getting the APS to work for me.

Now for the part I almost feel either proud or dirty about:  I have stopped finding this game completely offensive.

Ys I:

Well, I'm five hours in and the game seems to be going pleasant- it's over? Tsk.

DF fight is exasperating. After five-odd attempts and comparing attrition of DF compared to attrition of the ground, it became clear that I Was Doing It Wrong. Ended up looking up what exactly it was that I was doing wrong which turned out to be doing what an NPC had told me to do instead of going against their advice and common sense in general.

Mine boss was annoying also. Silly primitive games expecting people to drop what they're doing midway through a dungeon and meander off to do sidequests that were now possible to further.

Might as well throw the pillar puzzle out there while I am at it. I have no idea what the deal with that was nor how anyone was supposed to figure it out. I'd like to think that I missed something.

Also not letting you change your equipment while fighting bosses...

In general, it was enjoyable to play. Nice and simple. The storyline is nothing to write home about, and the last pieces of it that Sarah's involved in verge on inane. Has some decent music.

I was originally expecting to have Ys II put into the queue and take another decree for the next game, but I'm considering just going straight into it due to the shortness of I. Hm.

Wow. That is some serious Nomura plot.

Kind of cool, actually, but I can see how the message got mixed when I was reading up on the story.

No comment on the rest of story that Niu's been talking about.

BtB is so horrible it can induce a kind of PTSD 'shellshocked' effect after prolonged exposure. I suggest you see a therapist immediately. Or beat the game REALLY soon.

The sooner you move on, the happier you'll be. As someone who played LunarDS, I speak from experience.

MK- Chapter 2 Week 3. Characters really got a boost after the fishing chapter, since you can synth all those items. Yay for a Jess who no longer has only 35 HP! I'm actually kind of digging the music here. A nice retro feel to the OST while still having decent sound quality.

Cross Edge - Beat that Prinny fight, as well as the Prinny/Etna fight after that (which was a joke).  Now i have to fight them again, and this time it's not a joke.

To beat the first Prinny fight, I needed to make better equipment and then upgrade them, then just keep switching out people who died for new people and slug the enemies down.  Came pretty close.

First Prinny/Etna fight was a joke.  Not even worth talking about.

Second Prinny/Etna fight, I tried once and got obliterated.  Upgraded my equipment... got obliterated.  Made a bunch of HP+ skills and boosted everyone's HP by 500 (the bases run from 600 to 1000 right now so that's a HUGE boost).  Managed to get the front row of support killed but still wasn't able to finish off everyone.  Now I managed to find more items to make some other better equipment, so I'm busy upgrading that, and if needed I can boost everyone's HP by another 250 with some work.  That SHOULD be enough because I wasn't doing too bad the last time.

Overall, it does seem like the game rewards good item creation/upgrading far, far more than straight up level grinding.  You do need to grind to upgrade the equipment, but at least it's less monotonous than just doing it for levels, and the battles are pretty fun anyway.

Also, Etna for Godlike.
Also also, rank Prinny.

What sort of nasty tricks do Etna and Prinny have? Or is it just 'good stats'?

Excitement about the impending release of Monkey Island 5 drove me to play the first chapter of Wallace & Gromit. Fun game, not particularly special other in any respect other than its Wallace & Gromitness, but that's enough. Got substantially better in the second half, which makes me optimistic about The Last Resort.

FEDS: Almost done. Got Falchion in C23, and the team in general is a wrecking ball now. Average level is ~15/10.

Golden Sun 2 - Started this in honor of the new game being announced, nabbed a Silver password so the GS1 cast has around my endgame levels and all djinn when I get them.

Up to Madra. Battles and puzzles are GS1 in all ways, still has the decent dialogue and sense of humor, with the foundations of some plot bouncing around. Djinn unleashes are nice - Echo and Cannon have been pretty much how I kill tough single enemies. Helps that I accidentally got Cannon about 2 (very short) dungeons early.

Is Etna herself that frightening... or is it more her boss support/stage obstacles in general?

What sort of nasty tricks do Etna and Prinny have? Or is it just 'good stats'?

Etna's pretty nasty, but a lot of it does come with the support.  She has five Prinnies that have about half her HP and do decent damage.  The thing is that XE has limits in the form of EX skills.  You gain SP to use EX moves by attacking/being attaced/killing/being killed/basically doing anything.  SP is a party resource, though.  So with six actions and prinnies dying (and if you're not tanky enough, YOUR characters dying), their SP builds fast.  The prinnies' EX skills aren't too great (2HKO damage or so, but that's AFTER I BOOSTED MY HP by like 60%-100%), but Etna's pretty much just overkills.  With that HP twinking.  Pretty soundly too.

So she's basically a limit fighter.  Not too durable (probably gets 4-rounded or so), so it probably doesn't work out well.  However, if she DOES get a limit, she overkills and it also removes one SP from the enemy (limit busting!).  Granted, this is on Hard, but I imagine she overkills on Normal as well anyway, just by a smaller margin.

Fortunately they have PC forms, which may end up better due to more options.  Etna totally wants that swimsuit costume that lowers her HP to 1 and her VIT by 20 (though it increases AGI by 25 for evade hax!!!) in the DL.

Cross Edge - Yeah, beat the Etna/Prinny fight.  Wasn't too tough that time for some reason.

Fight after that was against Lazarus (new character I think).  He's weak, but you need to kill him within five turns for the frue ending, which isn't trivial.  Twinking for offense and knowing the limit is five turns helped out quite a bit.

I guess I should mention one of the battle mechanics of the game.  Each turn every character gets a number of AP (action points) to use for their attacks.  It's pretty much exactly like Breath of Fire:Dragon Quarter in that regard.  In addition, you can store up to twice your base, and this is generally what you want to do for two reasons: Combos and Overbreak.

Combos are basically a sequence of skills that form another skill, but the ingredient skills are not unique.  Each skill has a "type", and the combos are sequences of "types".  For example, the first one you get is just R-Skill I -> R-Skill I -> R-Skill I.  There are about seven skills of type R-Skill I and all of them work, AND they can be used multiple times in the same combo.  Obviously, if you have more AP, you can do more combos, and sometimes having 2x means the difference of doing one combo each turn or three combos on the second turn.

The other thing is that enemies (and PCs) have three bars: Break, Down, and Burst.  All attacks inflict Break damage, while only some do Down and Burst.  If you deplete the Break bar, the enemy goes into Overbreak, which has two advantages.  First, the person who inflicted Overbreak gets AP back (I think equal to their base), so they can use more moves.  If the attack that initiated Overbreak is a combo, all characters in that combo get AP back, and it is NOT split.  Second, the enemy is weaker during Overbreak (I think there's a defense drop or something) and combos seem to do much more damage to them (the combo I listed above does about 2.5x its normal damage for example).  Depleting Down/Burst doesn't seem to give back AP and I'm not sure what all they do, but that's a lot less common than Overbreak.

Thus, the most efficient strategy is to store up AP, then combo the enemy until Overbreak, and then combo them even more while they're weakened, adding up to waaaaaaaay more than 2x the damage you would've done by just attacking on both turns.  This is why the 5 turn limit on Lazarus's battle was important.  I skipped the 5th turn refilling my AP but never got a chance to use it.

End tangent.

Anyways, after the Etna/Prinny fight I managed to get a bunch of costumes for people.  These include batshit things like Misha getting +1000 HP and +15 VIT and Aurica getting +1500 HP and +20 VIT (though hers reduces AGI/LUC to compensate).  Marie got one with +2000 HP as well.  Keep in mind that these people's base HP is around 700 or so, so these are INSANE HP boosts.  Other people got good boosts, but they tended to be in other stats.  Later on, Miko got one with a good HP boost as well as boosting STR by 30 (her STR was like 15 or something before that).  So yeah, costumes are pretty cracked out on stats.  They also apply mults to characters' BASE stats (i.e. no equipment, including the costume itself), kind of like the reverse of Disgaea aptitudes.  This means the stat changes will still mean something at endgame (though at that point, the mults will likely matter than the raw stat boosts).

Overall, I'm still loving this game.  It may have more insane twinking options than even Ar tonelico, and actually forces you to USE THEM.  People generally complain about the game being too complex, but it's not that bad once you get used to all the systems you can horribly abuse.  There are polish issues, but eh, not bad enough to be a big deal to me.

FEDS: Finished. The titular Shadow Dragon, whose name I have already forgotten (FIRE EMBLEM PLOT) ate a weakness crit from the Divinestone, dealing an estimated 138 damage against his 60 HP. That was anticlimactic.

MVP: Probably Cain. He grew into a ridiculous powerhouse and a pretty good tank too. Frey, Barst and Caeda weren't far behind.

I'm getting my butt handed to me in Sahasrara in DDS. All my characters are now:
Serph - 46 Argilla - 45 Gale - 45 Cielo -37 Heat - 38
----
Serph:
ST 31
VI 34
MA 40 *
AG 31
LU 29

* : ] for Snow! But I'm going to balance it out the next few levels

I've come to the conclusion that I'm inadequately leveled in beating these bosses. They all seem to use Megidola which takes out around 80-120HP on my people, and that is very irksome. That and I've apparently had Argilla mastering the wrong Mantras because I still need two people to use Media rather than having her learn the Mantra that has that ability . . .  Yeah, so apparently I have some grinding to do. Once I'm done with that, it's back to Sahasrara and I think I'll finally beat the game! Yay!

KH 358/2- I have reach the conclusion that after BbS and before KH3, Nomura is soooo going to make a game with Lea as main with a plot on how he eventually dumped Saix.
I'll now expect a totally different phenomenon in the Comike this August.

What is?  Boss's supports not having limits as strong as the boss's?  Boss's limits overkilling people?  Neither of these sound bad to me...  It's not like you don't have revival, even...
