Same here.  Only on 3-3, but I basically feel the same way about the series thus far.  There are a lot of little points where an FAQ is necessary, and it's usually because you're trying to present the right piece of evidence at the wrong time, but on the whole I don't see my respect for the series taking a nosedive anytime soon.

Then there's the trivial details one can easily miss, like that tiny piece of evidence that's really easy to overlook in 1-5 (twice) and 2-4.  They were sitting RIGHT THERE, but took me three hours to think, "Hey, maybe I can interact with this stuff?"

That said...

Blazblue - Taokaka training.  Practiced air combo means ~4200 damage if the opponent isn't expecting a few things on either end.  No heat needed, too!  For ~6000, we have a 100% Heat unblockable one.  Yay?

FF4DS - Just got Rydia.  Like the updates and all, but I'm not far enough to make any judgements.  My roommate, who hated FF4 and has never beaten an SNES FF (though he loves the PSX games for whatever god damn reason) is past getting Yang and loves the game.  I suspect I'll end up enjoying it just for the Nostalgia factor though.

You should probably kill him in his sleep. To make up for his half of the rent, you can sell his kidneys on the black market. Does he have any chronic health problems? If not, a pair of healthy twenty-something kidneys should get you a quarter million or so.

I don't think Zenny was away from the group long enough in Jersey to make any contacts himself and I didn't let him on to any of mine.  Sopko's got arrested while we were there, so yeah.

Edit - CoV - Starting to put together a set of Enhancements to use when I hit level 22.  Not really being incredibly frugal while doing so.  Still making money hand over fist though.

P4- Finished Bathhouse. Working on S Links before the school trip. Must remember to start Kanji's before I go. S Links are developing quite nicely this time around. Yosuke's is already at L7 and I haven't even been 100% diligent with him (screwed up a couple or so of questions/worked on others) If this keeps up I may have to peg his persona upgrading at maybe even F3 for Neph's dungeon ... Despite being a lot more vigilant at exploring dungeons this time round and specifically trawling bathhouse on a rainy day I never wound up w/th the materials for the auto evasion armour for the girls. Finished off at L23 AVG and that was with fights being a lot easier than the first run thanks to Yoshi. So hmmm ... yeah still pegging revival as F3 for Yukiko. What I do have is the club and fan from trading fish as well HP/SP twinking equipment. I will return to the bathhouse for the auto evasion armour materials but that counts as grinding!  ;-)

SO4 is Reimi breaks the game w/th Berserk + Focus + Critical Hit + Rush mode spam or Meracle breaks the game w/th Berserk + Focus + Criticals w/th Blindside + X Claw juggle spam. I personally don't find the characters to have as much versatility + variety in battle as SO3 but it still works. What Meeple/etc said it's fine/fun. I agree for the most part w/th what peeps already brought up but while IC is ok maingame if you really want to go indepth hard/core for the postgame disc swapping is involved.

Grandia 3 - Girl playthrough continues. Dum de dum. Finished off Randoto without much in the way of trouble, because Fishmen kinda suck in general. Minotaur would be a better boss if he could use his big move while any of them were still alive. Or if he was faster. Bye bye Minotaur, hello I JUST WANT TO WARM HER~~ plot, then hello Excise Sigma. Much better than Minotaur due to speed, but crowd controlled quickly and two PCs can handle him well enough from there. Bye bye Miranda, hello awesome weapons, hello Alfina solo.

Baabaa - Well uh they are delightfully cute and never attack ever. They are really just there to give Alfina and Yuki something to build techs against in case you leaned on Miranda and Alonso too much. Also easy money.
Dragonoid - Their poison is really annoying, and I forgot to buy a Poison Amulet. Fortunately I don't fight too many. They also aren't very good without poison, their regular attacks are really slow.

EMEEEELIOUS!! also projectile vomit

Excise Sigma 2 (4 resets) - Yes, the first actually hard boss! Because it's a SCC at this point. Fortunately, the only boss I fight SCC-style. He is extremely bitchy, he is super fast, Dark Fist hurts a lot, and Anode can paralyse. Pico Alphas have just enough HP to be a pain to OHKO, and spam ITE damage that has notable IP damage, and it adds up. Winning setup involves a Wind Ring to reduce the damage and paralysis caused by Anode, enough ATK to OHKO the Pico Alphas with Ripple Shot, and Water boosting in order to make Heal as fast as possible. It's still a tense fight as things refuse to go my way in most of my trials (I need Yuki to die before I start attacking, but only once is he targetted first (Excise OHKOs him) and the Pico Alphas hate lining up for Ripple Shot). Do eventually win. Evading the turns the enemies are stupid enough to try physicals is key, yay Perception skill.

Rest of the dungeon is easy outside one fight against four Verse Realm dudes. More Dragonoids here, and otherwise:

Pico Alpha - They only have half the HP of the ones in the boss fight. Burn one-shots.
Aton Beta - They can cancel, but... Burn one-shots.

Would be a much scarier dungeon except you almost always fight 2 enemies at most, so Fire boosting ftw. I use one White Sulfur, big deal.

Uh oh, now I have to use DUDES in my party! Not cool! Base level Yuki and Ulf vs. 2 Minotaurs. Certainly an interesting fight, since Yuki is about as useful as you expect. Actually, that's not true, he's more useful. He distracts the Minotaurs and actually lives a decent length of time. He does die though, and Ulf solos the rest of the way. Ulf's tech damage is very disappointing at base level (Flame Spike is nowhere near a Level 3 Ripple Shot) and his magic damage isn't as bad as you'd think, but most of this is Minotaur defences. Perception is absolutely key for dodging their physicals. Their big move is Tornado Horn, and it nearly 2HKOs Ulf, but defending does totally own it since it not only halves its damage, but blocks its Air effect which is the source of nearly half its damage, so it ends up being about 1/4 damage overall. hax. Tough and tense for a bit while the two Minotaurs are alive, since my damage and options are limited, but Wound Salves are quick (I also have Quick Draw set) and Minotaurs slow, so I'm able to manage.

And stay out of my party, losers!

Anyway, planesplanesplanesplanesplanes I have another planes~ Rune Armour and Mysterious Clogs get. Next it's Dragon Valley, which I'm currently in the middle of, the last Alfina Solo dungeon. I'll cover that in my next update!

Oh, general notes:
-Perception is awesome against anything evadable. I've said it before, but it bears saying again.
-Status duration seems to be inflicted as a form of "damage". Different moves inflict different durations. Halving the element of a move halves its status duration. Defending halves status duration. Good to know.
-Ripple Shot is really good. Physical Alfina does more damage than I thought possible at this point, and it's very fast.

Other games that are inferior to Grandia 3:

F-Zero: Lowest difficulty was easy but the next one up is frustrating, for Queen and King cups. Did beat Queen, although White Land 2 feels borderline impossible for everyone but Dr. Stewart due to the huge jump that everyone else seems to have trouble building up speed for. Death Wind 2 is a creative map but very bitchy, it's my current main rival, though I did beat it once.

Dragon Quest 4 - Beat Estark. He likes having way, way more HP in this game... 2700? Crazy considering your damage output at this point, and the fact that he can constantly dispel you. On the other hand, he hates the fact that they nerfed his "deep breath" from "double attack power" to "double damage". No more one-shotting Cristo through Increase. No coming especially close, even. Hello 16 damage to Kabuff'd Sofia! Not a bad fight but yeah, didn't ever really think I'd lose short of bad luck. Reminds me of Dhoulmagus kinda, though Kabuff not failing gives DQ4 boss fights their own unique feel.

Party is still Sofia + Zamkovska. I almost certainly misspelled that, but you know what I mean.

Baa-baa's exist to abuse for cash while you are grinding (seemingly endlessly) for the kill book that lets you get rare drops easier.  This is a sick and cruel irony, but they are the first of many in the chain of pray for a rare drop so other rare drops aren't fucking retarded grinding for higher level power gaming in G3 (Because Casino abuse is only the beginning).

ToV - Up to the part where Yuri and co formed a guild.  The game is fun and yeah Yuri has panned out a bit better, but the plot still likes to occasionally be infuriating with its logic defying legal system.  Also I don't need to see a party splitting up saying goodbye plot again.  It was boring after ToD, now I have watched it like four fucking times in ToV.  It is TotA doing Asch and Luke emo "I AM JUST A CLONE" plot all over again.  I GET IT.  STOP. DOING. THIS. SAME. PLOT. POINT.

Post didn't go through? Weird.

L4D- 38k kills. Trips, VSM, and I had a hilariously bad run through dead air expert, including but not limited to-

-Setting a witch on fire with a fire barrel
-Me killing VSM from 56 to literally DEAD when he jumped in front of my shotgun blast
-Trying the plane wing near the revival closet and failing like Meeplina. Damn it, that spot should work wonderfully for DA's finale but there's always some failure involved.
-A tank literally spawning in front of me in dead air 2. This was in the last room before you do the crane horde event (Usually a molotov there) and the tank spawned with a bunch of zombies. That went poorly.

Trips was the sole survivor (I lived through the second tank, but picked up trips, got boomered and died)
Our run on death toll went much better. Have I mentioned that a bot makes great bait for horde events if you shoot him in the right spot? Because he does.

We need four human players for a blood harvest expert clear. Still a bit painful, but with the right crew (oooo Laggypoo) should be doable.  Mostly getting this clear for VSM, who needs what are you trying to prove.  Dead air is a matter of tank management. VSM got unlucky and got clipped by concrete. Couldn't get there before he died. Oh well.

For nothing special-  Death toll easy and just be careful? I can't imagine not taking SI damage on the other maps.

Wish and you shall receive.

Muramasa: Got Oboro Momohime up to Lvl ~88 and forged the ultimate weapon, finishing off with her 3rd ending by beatind down the final with it (what... unlike the second ending there is no special boss? That fails). I'm not sure whether the ending implied that Jinkuro just let himself die or he waited until Momohime was away from Yuki to take possession of his body without risking her life this time. Since Yuki himself is basically a jackass, I would tend to hope for option #2 (it would also nicely explain why Kongiku was there).

Besides that the game is a lot of fun, just... way too short and not nearly as good at weaving a story as Odin Sphere and Grim Grimoire were. This isn't to say the story is bad, it's just kind of poorly presented for a Vanillaware game. Not sure what my favorite ending is overall yet. I like most of them except for Momohime 1, which was kinda lame.

Given Tales series I assume at some point it turns out that Estelle isn't the real Princess and that she was swapped at birth with the real princess (Ioder).

Joking aside I am having a lot of fun with ToV.  IC items could drop a bit more frequently but meh work around it and the money restrictions am probably overlevelled because of it (Especially Red Lens/Mystic Cloth/Steel Arrow Heads, cool to have things drop from plot fights that you aren't likely to get for a long while from normal enemies.  Not so good to make it random chance to drop).

OH yeah.

L4D - Played my first run through a level in aaaaages.  Blood Harvest on Advanced cause we are all a bit rusty.  Fuck me they really nerfed the auto-shotgun on Tanks a lot.  I swear I did 6 laps around one of those barns before the fucker died with only one other person really able to shoot it.  Fuck me that took forever and I had half forgot how to do Tank kiting properly.  Fucked up right at the end.  Didn't die but I didn't think it would ever go down.

SF4: Unlocked Rose and Fei Long. Just need Gen before I start working on Akuma, Gouken and Seth.

Started SRW Alpha DC. This game is not especially well thought out, but it's fun.

Oh, and because I don't think I posted about it, the new Monkey Island chapter is awesome. A bit easy, but awesome. Contain your shock.

P4: Goddammit, I'm still playing this. Finished the Steamy Bathhouse. Mildly offended. Kanji is cool enough that it still works, though. So far I have never spent a single day training... I finish dungeons in the same day I enter them - and do all my Persona fusing and grinding in that time. Works pretty well and my S. Links are really coming along well. Fox's SP refilling is awesome, even if waaay overpriced, even at S.Link lv3.

Chie is lv8, Yukiko and Strength at lv7, Yosuke still at 4, just started Kanji. Sun, Moon, Empress, and Hierophant are all about lv3-5.

Got Matador and Sarasvati as my main Personas during the Bathhouse. Yukiko got Recarm on the final floor of that.

Arcana Chance is awesome!

Just finished Tales of Phantasia and BoF2.

Tales was fun, I thought it was actually rather interesting, the translation was also pretty epic.

BoF2 was just meh throughout the game.

Starting Secret of Mana, half an hour in and I think I'm going to just mute the sound and play different music in the background >.>.

DMC4-Up to Mission..10 I think? The one after the Dante boss battle. Speaking of which, yeah it was pretty hard, but not the utter nightmare I was expecting. Oddly enough he only whipped out Gilgamesh a few times, for the most part it was his usual Rebellion combos and Gunslinger antics. I was helped by the fact that he kept on switching to Royal Guard, which leaves him open for a Buster. Agnus was a giant pussy as always. Well, now that the hard part's over, I can finally look forward to beating the shit out of an old man, and then going through all the levels in reverse. Hooray!

QuakeLive-Because I have to tell somebody.

Okay, so I was playing a Clan Arena match tonight. For those who don't know, Clan Arena pits a Red Team versus a Blue Team. Every person is given 200 health, 100 armor(reduces all damage by 2/3rds) and every weapon but 3 in the game with double ammo. There is no re spawning or pickups of any kind, so any damage is irreversible. There is also no friendly fire whatsoever so you can rocket jump and fall down from high places with no penalty. The team with the last people left alive in the game wins the round, a team must win 10 rounds to win the game.

So both teams had the usual mix of mouth-breathers and competent people. I was leading the scoreboard for my team because I was on fire tonight. However it was still a very, very close game and at last we ended up 9-9.

The last round did not start well. My team did some damage but died, one by one. I got some good hits in and generally managed to avoid damage, thanks to my rocket jumping skills. Eventually it ended up being 5 (ie the entire enemy team) vs 1 (me). As you can imagine, I was pretty much boned. Or was I?

First I jumped up to the highest level of the map. There was a guy camping by an exit who was at low health, one well placed rocket took care of him. One guy tried coming from behind but I anticipated that and sent him packing with single digit HP. I took some minor damage but I was still alright. But then I'm surrounded by 3 people at once! I kill off one guy who was leading the other team in points before he can switch to a rocket launcher (which would have likely sealed my fate), and I catch the other two trying to use the Gauntlet on me (extremely close-range melee weapon, if you kill someone with it the announcer screams HUMILIATION and you get extra points) and kill them. That leaves the last guy, the one I totally punked before. He has me in a narrow corridor with the railgun, which does 80 damage a hit (out of 200 max health), but he misses! I run in and Lightning Gun him, basically single-handedly winning the game.

Immediately the opposite team accuses me of using hacks.

Don't think of it as a novel. Think of it as a chance to retroactively win every argument you have ever walked away from.

You might want to wait on that. It's true that SoM does have some very bad songs, but it also has some good ones here and there.

Persona 4: Finished this game.

...yes, you read that right.  I finished this game.  Actually a week ago!  I know a lot of you who aren't Soppy, Grefter, Elfboy, Snow or Ciato are all wondering "Wait, when the fuck did you start this game, let alone finish it?" and well, actually, I started it before DLC4! ...but that doesn't count, that was more soppy showing me the beginning, I really started it a few weeks ago, and have been playing it in secret, only telling the above people as I played, cause I wanted to avoid talking about it in general.

Why?  Cause I know if I said anything controversial about the game, flames would start up.  There are reasons the above 5 learned about it (only ones I'll state are that it was Soppy's game so he had a right to know, just for the sake of learning when he's getting the game back, and Grefter was more or less there when Soppy was smacking me into playing it a little before I started it.)

Anyway, I did get the true ending, so don't whine about this.  Obviously, this calls for a massive Meeple rant, and from here on in...

THERE WILL BE LIKELY SPOILERS!!! READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!

I'll start by saying that I did have reservations going into this game.  Mostly cause me and SMT don't mix.  I hated like Persona 1, but that sounds normal!  I didn't like Persona 2, and got lashed out cause of it by a few of the major fans cause "OMG YOU WEREN'T PLAYING THE GAME TO THE FULLEST!" even though my complaint had nothing to do with the game being too hard, lacking options, etc.  yes I wasn't breaking the game, but the game was so darn easy, I thought "Who cares?" and just yawn fested my way through most of it.
DDS1 had a lot of issues, and was just bland, and DDS2 while fixing a lot of them...still wasn't particularly special.

And all of them had typical SMT bullshit of the entire gameplay is summarized by just exploiting elemental aspects, using Defend anytime some big scary charge move comes up, and possibly (de)buffing for Bosses (note that I didn't use any buffs in DDS, but then, I never felt a real reason too.)

So...naturally, my thoughts were that as an SMT, this game would clash with me, cause SMT is king of bullshit stunts like "You got attacked by enemy, YOU'RE DEAD BEFORE YOU GO CAUSE THE GAME HATES YOU!" and such, but surely, P4, with all its hype, would be different, right!?

...no.  P4 ended up being the same.  While not as prominent as other SMT games I played, it still had all the same issues SMT games usually have.  You can get your ass kicked without any real way around it, merely cause the game decided to laugh at you (one such example was a boss opened the fight by hitting Souji with Fear, then on its OPENING DOUBLE ACT, used Gastly Wail.  There was no way to anticipate this, no way to defend against it other than blindly blocking Fear when the game gave you NO REASON to give a shit about fear before then beyond a mild nuisance.)  The back attack thing wasn't as bad as DDS where it was utterly random but...maybe it was my team (Teddie/Yukiko/Kanji), but I always felt enemies were going first, or at least, one enemy would go, then Teddie would go, etc.

Now, yes, I know hitting the backside gets you a pre-emptive...but getting that was not trivial.  Furthermore, the game's hit detection is so awkward; there are times I am CERTAIN I hit something, seeing the sword actually strike the body...but it doesn't hit, then enemy charges, "Enemy strikes first" >_<

When the game isn't pulling bullshit...I honestly found I wasn't having much fun.  Bosses were long slog fests, where you're just constantly reapplying (de)buffs, and sitting around healing.  Little strategy is involved in these fights; its basically just "don't overuse resources, don't let Souji die!"
Oh, speaking of that, Souji Dying = Game Over is a fucking retarded concept.  Yes, P4 tries to compensate by giving you the "Character protects Souji!" thing, but the problem is when there's MT kicking in, there's no way around it.  I actually once lost a fight cause Souji was hit 3 times with one of those randomize hit moves, and that barely killed him...when the others in my team were all hit once...and Souji just happen to get CRIT as well.  Again, there's no way to defend against that properly, especially that early when Physical resistant persona aren't exactly common.

The Persona System...honestly, I don't get what they were aiming at.  P1 and P2 let you give a variety of Persona to various characters, with your main having customizable stats.  This idea was fine!  Yeah, it needed some polish, but could have ended up being interesting.  So why in P3/4 did they change it to everyone has set skills, and only the main is customizable?  It really polarizes your party and forces experimenting, and actually OVERSTATES THE WORTH OF LEVELS, since that's the only way characters progress...outside of Souji, who can flip stuff around.

Dungeon crawling just got bland after a point, fights were monotonous, either cuase they're easy, or the game pulls bullshit like "Hey, look at this enemy! It resists all elements but physicals, and has high evade, isn't that fun ^_^!"

Also wasn't fond of SP conservation.  You basically live off SP...but it promotes using it way too much.  Sure, it gives you the Fox to let you go through it in several shifts, but he costs so much its not even funny until late in the game.  I know there's the option of "leave dungeon, come back next day!" but then you're provoking a time limit.  I guess I should give the game props for actually dealing with the passage of time...but honestly, nice thing about RPGs is the suspension of realism, so adding in realistic elements does not necessarily promote making the game better.

It just hit me in all the wrong areas game play wise, basically.

As far as non-gameplay related things...

OST was unoteworthy.  on one hand, the Battle Theme was starting to get to me; J-pop as a basic battle theme gets repetitive, and it starts getting on my nerves.  Though, this is offset by the Boss Theme being rather good, and there were even workable versions of the song used in plot that worked well enough there.  The rest of the songs were fairly unmemorable and such.

Plot...the game is a glorified japanese Scooby Doo story.  The Killer so needed to say at one point "I would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for you meddling kids and your dog bear!" and it would have been perfect, but alas.   At least everything up until Adachi/ameno Sagiri.  Inazami was a completely bullshit twist, I felt.  Ok, yes, there's a subtle presence...but come on, just coming out of nowhere like that and going "uh, yeah, there was one more SPACE FLEA working under this!  No, we couldn't pretend Ameno Sagiri was doing everything, we have to add in some freak with a God Complex instead just for one more dungeon!"  I honestly didn't buy the excuse, and the attempt being "OMG awesome plot twist cause you didn't think that throw away character was important ^_^"  was just "no, that's a stupid stunt; Paladin's Quest did it years ago, and it was stupid then, and its stupid now."
As far as Adachi being the killer...I called it back in May.  Would have called it earlier, but I wasn't really paying attention to random details, part of it was cause in April, it was when I was being introduced to the game, and then hadn't played the game for a while.  When he started getting scenes and such, I went "...that guys the killer, I bet.  Though, that seems just too easy to pick out..."
Adachi is a pretty lame villain too.  Its mostly just him being emo, and your team smacking sense into him; he's also a complete trope.

As far as other characters go...
Ok, first off, I will give the game this; it does have great character interaction.  This is hard to dispute.  While I didn't like the REAL LIFE SIMULATOR idea, mostly cause I felt I was spending a lot of time just getting through days, but skipping them meant I'd lose gameplay merits, so I had to actually genuinely make use of that time, there was some good character interaction to be had.  The problem is, however, is that the S. Links really kind of failed it up badly.

Reason?  SOUJI IS A FUCKING SILENT PROTAGONIST.  This made S. Links basically just the other character monologuing about their own issues until finally they come to a resolve, with you responding in some way.  P4 finally made me realize what I generally despise about Silent Protagonists, especially ones that try to be passed off as real characters through such responses;

No matter what you say, no matter how much of a dick you are, no matter what the scenario is...YOU ARE JESUS.  There's very few exceptions to this; you can tell someone to go fuck a rabid buffalo and they'll respond "That's harsh! ...but you're right, that's probably the best thing to do at this moment, thanks!" I know I sound extreme, but P4 really felt like it took the icing on this one.  S. Links were bad for this reason; they were like Mana Khemia Character quests, except without Vayne to react to them.  Vayne is what made those work.  Flay's CQs, for example, are only so hilarious cause we have Vayne on the side going "Wait, what? How did I get myself into this..." and such reactions; if Vayne was Souji, they wouldn't be half as funny.  The characters are always asking Souji for help, and regardless what you do or say, Souji's always helping out!  YOU CAN'T BE A REAL JERK cause, again, YOU ARE JESUS.  Everything you say is good, just, right, and people will be changed by it!  YOU WILL DIE FOR THEIR SINS! (but this of course gives a game over, so you realistically can't <_< )

I will grant one S. Link that did feel believable was the Daycare Center one.  Here we have a realistic scenario of a step mother trying to grow attached to her new son, who is having problems accepting her, and it was handled in a believable way.  OK, so her getting so close to a high school student helping her through these troubled times is a bit weird, but that's a "Suspend Belief" scenario I'm willing to overlook for the sake of a narrative.
Otherwise, the other S. Links were more just "Character has a problem, watch them slowly resolve it on their own while pretending you're actually being helpful through the course of 10 separate scenes!"  I suppose for a tropetastic character, Kanji's was handled not half bad, the "Big Tough Guy whose actually a real softy on the inside, but refuses to be open about it" actually being given a remote sense of development for once wasn't bad.  But the other S. Links left me generally unimpressed.

Now, the stuff when there were actual cast meetings and such had good interaction.  That's where it was good!  There were some hilarious moments like...well, really, any scene where Human Teddie played a prominent role.  Actually, Teddie was hilarious for this in general; his design is completely opposite of how he acts!

When he's in the Bear suit, he's generally serious.  Yes, makes a wise crack here and there, but he's actually not that comical beyond some puns.  Come his human side, though?  They really take the naivete to absurd levels that make his antics just ridiculous...in a good way.  Its especially funny when we have characters like Yosuke face palming at everything he does, cause if you were in their shoes, you know you'd be reacting the same way.

Other characters...
Yosuke I kind of liked.  If you ask me, HE should have been the Main Character.  There were so many times I actually felt he was the genuine main, cause it felt like he was strong arming the group, like he was the guy who was being important...but then I am reminded "no, this is SMT, the completely useless SIlent Protagonist is the main and don't even think about anything else!"   Yosuke otherwise was your typical loser, but not a bad guy, and he's trying to fit in, but sort of failing, and is lucky enough he has the friend's he does.

Chie kind of annoyed me.  The Veronica in the game.  "Hey, she's athletic and somewhat of a tomboy, but she's also kind of a moron too, BUT SHE'S SELF AWARE SHE'S NOT SMART SO ITS OK!"  Um, whatever, I can't find myself giving a shit.

Yukiko, similarly, wasn't much better, and I can say this safely despite getting her maxed S. Link (didn't get Chie's, though I heard Chie's S. Link is just really boring.)  Yukiko of course being the Betty of the group, proving that this group is tropetastic.  The soft spoken, gentle girl, who has slight OOC moments when she bursts out into laughter fits, but otherwise exists to foil her best friend Chie.

Pretty much covered Kanji before; about as well done as you're going to get for that kind of character, so we'll move on.

Naoto...unsure what to say.  First off, I will say that when I first saw her, I immediately assumed she was female...then the game claims she's male and I'm like "ok, so this is just Japan loving effeminate boys!" so when they revealed her being female, I was like "...god, what the hell is wrong with Japan?  You make a female pretend she's male, but FAIL MISERABLY AT THAT?" I found it completely unrealistic that the characters would believe Naoto was male as a result.
...but that's more a designer standpoint than the actual character.  I don't feel I can properly assess Naoto cause I didn't see any of her S. Links; I don't really have any special thoughts for the angle of "is a prodigy detective whose young and not use to simply hanging out with friends, thus finds self in awkward situations!"

Rise...meh.  I appreciate the attempt at a big shot celebrity quitting and trying to live a normal life, and your team happening to befriend her on pure chance, but I felt that this factor didn't really kick in at all outside of S. Links, and her character was mostly just a subverted Genki, I felt.  Once she's with your team, she was the overly cheerful, happy go lucky girl (contrast to when you first meet her, she's a bit emo), though never quite takes it to the overly energetic levels that most characters of that archetype go (HI SELPHIE!) so...eh, I guess she's alright, but don't have a strong opinion of her.

Dojima was well done.  Actually felt like a single father who was having problems choosing his family life compared to his harsh work life, and he had a few powerful scenes.  Also nice to have an uncle with some sort of power who is not a villainous figure in the least for once, and genuinely a good guy.

Nanako was also decently well handled; a little girl who actually felt like a little girl, and not your typical japanese fictional excuse for one!  This makes her like the second one EVER that I've met (Lymle from SO4 being the first.)  She didn't have these ultra high energy levels, her "Cute" factors didn't feel like she was trying to be ultra cute, but more just typical "young and naive" scenarios, what have you.  I can also kind of see what CK meant when he compared my sister to her, considering how she hangs around with people much older than her and fits in well.

Now, let me state that despite this...I wished Nanako would have died.  No, I don't mean "THE GIRL NEEDS TO DIE IN A DITCH!"  What I mean is Nanako's Disney Death was completely bullshit.  The game did a great job of letting you get to know a character like her, grow attached to her, and genuinely make her feel like someone you care about.  So killing her off would have been a massively gutsy move on the writers end, and the PERFECT thing to make you truly hate the villains on a truly emotional level, to the point where you really want to kill them (its rare that you truly can hate a villain in this manner.  I know one reason people like Kefka is cause of how he sparks so much of this kind of hate, which is GOOD for a villain; using Kefka as a random example cause he's one I've seen hype like this a lot for.)  I was almost feeling genuinely sad there...would have been like the second time in a game where I felt truly emotionally touched by a striking event like that (Crisis Core's ending being the first)...

BUt the game screws it up in a few manners.
FIRST OFF, Souji's existence fucks everything up.  If he wasn't a silent protagonist, ubt a character who could speak, the scene would have been a lot more powerful.  I know, you're suppose to associate yourself with Souji, but its really hard to do so when you have that JESUS syndrome I mentioned earlier, and Souji is very much NOT like you.  Now, Souji being silent here I don't mind, but the fact that he's silent makes this scene with him no different than any others.  If Souji had spoken, and been silent here, it'd have actually meant something!  But as it stands, him being a silent protagonist completely undermines the scenario.

Secondly...SHE DOESN'T DIE.  The game decides to keep her alive and suddenly, what could have been one of the gutsiest things an RPG Writer has done in years (kill off a 7 year old girl that you actually spent 90% of the game interacting with and would actually CARE about) into a "Just kidding ^^" moment, and it completely undermines Dojima's over the top "Father has gotten completely irrational learning his daughter just died' reaction, as now you get a sense that it was pointless since she didn't die!

Remember, I LIKE Nanako, but despite this, I think killing her off would have been a far better idea than the Disney Death bullshit they actually pulled, from a writing stand point.  Way to fuck up what could have given this game a boost in its score as far as writing goes; instead of being something I would have eternally respected the game for, it ends up being a head desking moment of GRAHness.

A good comparison to this I felt is FMA, which had a similar situation with the character Nina.  Yes, you only got to know her for a few episodes, but they spend enough time portraying her as this sweet innocent girl, who the Elric brothers have actually grown attached to, and you just sort of feel an "aw" feeling with her.  Then suddenly, the show actually does the unthinkable...and kills her off in such a horrible way, you finally realize what kind of show you're dealing with; FMA isn't going to pull punches.  If a character needs to die, THEY'LL KILL THEM OFF (sure enough, episode 26 occurs down the line, and is probably the single most emotional moment I felt when watching really like anything.  That episode was brilliant from so many stand points.)
Persona 4 could have achieved a similar thing...but instead, decided to just go "Just kidding!"  No, Persona 4, you do not fuck around with pretending to kill off a character like that, just to create Soap Opera like drama, go die.

Lastly, was not fond of the school setting.  Look, I went through High School already, I didn't want to do it again.  I don't want to have to think about mid terms and what not, don't want to emulate sitting in class...it just did absolutely nothing for me.  Mana Khemia did the school setting thing as well, but handled it better, mostly cause it was more a back drop and it was integrated into the progression of the game, where as Persona 4 focused way too heavily on it, and felt removed from the actual story.

*END OF SPOILERS*

This rant wasn't structured well, but meh, couldn't bring myself to do a usual structured style Meeple rant.  In the end, Persona 4 was what I expected it to be:
An unimpressive game with a lot of the usual SMT bullshit, with some worthwhile characters and character interaction, but was otherwise a boring experience and one I felt I my reservations were all justified.  If P4 is suppose to be the high point of SMT games...then I'm never playing any of these again.
SMTs are just some of the most asinine, boring and tedious RPGs out there, and its always for the same reasons.

So in the end, P4 gets like a 3-4/10.  Yeah, yeah, I know a lot of you are going to attack me over it, but I didn't like the game much at all.

EDIT: Oh yeah, don't expect me to play P3...like ever.  From all I've heard, P3 is P4 with a lot more issues, which makes it sound like one of the worst games ever.

Your sister being adorable and hanging out with us is only part of the Nanako equation.  the other is... if you see the DL en masse as having that sort of Scooby-Gang atmosphere, it also had the same group "^.^" reaction and general willingness to include, help, and play with the significantly younger person.  It's really pretty awesome.

Am I strange for finding the "super awkward romantic interlude" aspects of S. Links utterly hilarious?

Meeple needs to play SMT Nocturne and REALLY know what SMT bullshit really is.  It takes your problems you have with DDS and Persona and times that by 10. ALSO IT HAS DANTE LOL.

What boss was that? Mituso? I don't recall ever Souji ever being one rounded outside of absolutely freak luck (Triggering high counter several times, wasn't paying attention.) That's also the slowest team in the game so I'm not surprised enemies were getting the jump on you.

Use status (Or Almighty, but the only case I can think of it ever mattering there is those bonus EXP/money hands) on those. P4 was generally good about giving you some way to damage enemies.   Break up the dungeons into smaller pieces if you get annoyed. You set your own pacing in that regard. You do have a time limit, but it shouldn't take more than a couple of runs through any area to get it cleared and ready for the boss. That team you picked is bad for controlling SP costs, as it's got no real MT physical techs or status and it's slow to boot.

Eh, can't really argue with anything Meeple said, it's basically true.  Just doesn't bother me like it does him.  But ya, play P3, it's better than P4.  You can actually back attack enemies in that one.

Lies, Cap. P3 is not better than P4 is any way, shape or form gameplaywise or storywise. The S-Links are marginally better since they actually feel, well, social instead of being mini-afterschool specials. The cast is about as good though, sans the terribleness of Ken.

Eh, it's perfectly possible to back attack enemies in P4.  You just need to be overlevelled for that dungeon.  Otherwise, yeah, hope the stars align right for ya.  That's one of the things P3 did right that P4 didn't.  The other being the ending, where it's true ending is really a perfect cap for everything that went before.  Whereas P4's...  is only a perfect cap if you have the right mindset.  Otherwise I totally agree about the True Ending generally detracting from the game.

Anyways, no other comments from me about Meeple's P4 rant asides from a quick seconding on the don't play P3.  Really doesn't sound like something you'd enjoy.

As for what I'm playing, more Dissidia.  Managed to level Terra up a bit and got Holy Combo.  It sucks.  Worked on it a bit more and mastered it, it's kinda decent, but really just another long range pressure move with the potential to blow up in your face as well as completely whiff on the whole combo part.  Now, what is both awesome and fun was Meltdown.  Had a lot of fun using the different settings on that move to chase my brother around with.  Aside from that, mostly just levelling, scoring accomplishments, and clearing out the story modes.

Edit for Soppy: P4 is much more polished, but I think I need to agree with the Captain here.  So far as I'm concerned, P3 is the better game mostly for story and setting reasons.

What??? Meltdown... I am sorry to say, SUCKS. Too predictable and too easy to read. It is easily intercepted by any resoanble mid or long range move, even you just use lv.1 charge. And lv.3 charge is almost suicidal as it can be completly evaded from a frontal dodge, and the lag is just atrocious. While lv.2 is just too slow to hit anything. It's uselessness is comparable to Ulty's Great Attractor. The only thing they can hit are bad AIs.
Compare to Holy Combo, albeit for most of them time useless, is at least monstrous move in Ex Mode. Double Meteor->Double Holy Combo is Terra's signature death combo in Ex-Mode
