UD: You passed up G-3? Aw.

L4D: Did Dead Air. Still boring. Will probably delete the game when I need the space.

Nah, blame the general level of hype plus the half-off sale.

It was certainly something I was very enamored with when it came out and didn't actively avoid hyping it though.  Thanks for giving it the second try though.

Huskarls 2: Same strategy as Huskarls 1. The catch though...

Huskarls 3: Is this. Chain battle with an extra knight. The green one seems to only have a MT attack as his speciality (used every 3 turns). On the lower rung of the ladder for priority, but extra person = more damage you take. I got lucky here with a critical hit that OHKO'd Jasna before he could do anything else but attempt one Deathbringer. Then just sleep two guys, while I take care of Wisrapt and mop up.

Janus 6: Plot fight. Defend 3 turns/cast Protect/heal if necessary. Very easy! Thankfully after the trainwreck above.

I have to re-record this though :/ thanks to PINNACLE!!! failing at life and not working with live stream =(

TotA - Beat Nebilim on Hard Mode after only one game over!...  Now since I accidentally saved over the file that was just before her, I have to spend another 15 hours getting up to her from the next-closest file.  Sadness.  Ah well, right?

That fight was fun with Luke/Guy/Tear/Natalia.  Took me 15 Life Bottles, 12 Treats, an All-Divide, and I don't even know what else.

That's like, the worst possible party.

I have a friend telling me I should've replaced Natalia with Jade.  I'll have a chance to do it next time.

1 per class feels like the pretty stock suggestion.

When we ranked FE9, we didn't rank a single archer. Or a single non-royal laguz. When we ranked FE8, we didn't rank a single Dragon Knight. Or Druid, despite them being one of the more interesting classes DL-wise. When we ranked VP2, we didn't rank a single greatswordsman (VP2 PC Arngrim, but lots of people vote on one of his other forms). To some people we didn't rank a single mage (people who vote on boss Lezard). etc. People rightly demand that ranks have a modestly solid plot backing, and Heugoe of the 1/3 splitpath and minimal plot isn't qualifying here.

All of these games didn't have VPDS's problems of splitpath (well, VP2 does to a lesser extent), and are almost certainly all higher vote draws. So yeah, hype for these ranking ideas can go jump off a pier until someone can explain to me what they do that makes them more rankable than someone like Rolf. You'll need to come up with a better argument than "he has a status weapon!", especially given VPDS' serious problems with what weapons are legal as is.

And yet, I distinctly remember for both FE9 and VP2 that there was discussion for ranking at least one representative for each class. So obviously there's some interest in using this method, and just said that it was a stock suggestion. VP2, in particular, was ranked back before the realization that the DL is something we're basically doing for ourselves these days (instead of the mythical externals). So if the internals have a decent amount of interest in ranking a representative per class, I don't see why it's not a viable suggestion.

Also, even splitpath and low-story is a better rank than any of the VP2 einherjar for plot. And honestly, Rolf had a pretty decent amount of support IIRC. It was more that he and Shinon were fighting over the same slot for a game we didn't want to over-rank. Especially with its sequel waiting in the wings. Both of them might even get ranked with FE10 if that ever happens.

The fact that, throughout the multiple times it has been suggested, this approach has been rejected, however, is more telling. And the fact that it is something we do mostly for ourselves also encourages a smaller, less cluttered ranking instead of otherwise, because having more unmemorable scrubs that end up getting nommed just because they haven't been in having matches nobody cares about only means we have to do more work for characters that we, as a group, mostly don't give a damn about. It may even be a viable suggestion, but given how past experience has shown it's not enough clout, I think it's safe to say that it's best not to. And being better than VP2 einherjar for plot says absolutely nothing.

A post for my own amusement: Things I have found that indicated that S4 is the equivalent of the shortbus for RPG design/programming.
--Multiple secret weapon stats (Eva, Acc, Crit?). To make this more confusing, I believe enemy also have some sort of secret type which then interacts with the PC weapon secret type!!
--I have seen a character with 3 speed go before one with 140 speed.
--It is very common in randoms for characters with more defense to take more damage (At certain points). Throw the defense buff on them and watch them take even more!!!!
--Against some random spellcasters, there is an Mdef dead zone. A character with 130 Mdef will take 30 less than one with 100! A character with 30 Mdef will take 30 more than one with 60! The characters with 60 and 100 Mdef...will take the same amount! This is true across multiple randoms.

If the reasoning behind passing over this kind of ranking in the past has been for the 'externals', then certainly under the current circumstances it's reasonable to consider the view on its own merits and not based on past precedent that barely applies.

VP1.  Attack Trust is an amalgamation of four different secret stats, and ends up telling you nothing.  Some of the most reliable weapons have terrible attack trusts.

The unique class thing is now more a feather in the PCs cap, rather than the basis they get ranked on.  If they seem borderline material, that unique class idea may push them over just based on the interest scale.

Someone like Jill of FE9 got this for example.  She's used enough, she has some plot, though its still quite limited...the Wyvern thing just gives her that little extra push to be ranked.
Flipside, Nephenee didn't really get ranked cause she's a Halberdier; what got her ranked was she's an actually interesting FE9 PC due to Wrath and lots of people use her.  If she were a Swordmaster or a Warrior or something, I wouldn't be shocked if she still got ranked.  The Halberdier thing, in this case, was mostly just "She lacks redundancy" so you couldn't hold the argument against her.

Then again, we ranked both Oscar and Titania, both Paladins (and they can both use Lances, for all that Titania is Axe primary); reason being that they're both early game PCs that many people use and they have plot to justify it.  Rolf/Shinon didn't get ranked, despite being unique classes, cause most people just don't use them; Rolf's underleveledness is a massive turn off, considering he's an Archer, and Shinon is just horrible when he rejoins.

Just chiming in that not overranking is NOT something we just do for the externals. Seriously, do you know who has historically complained most about overranking?

So yeah, please don't try to pass obviously bad ranking ideas through with the argument that "we care less about externals now".

I'd argue this has been historically a more internal matter than external, honestly. Overranking a little doesn't sound bad until you realize we start getting into a ShF/CC situation where nobody gives a shit to do work on those characters and then you have to fish for victims to do those writeups with a goddamn gatling gun, and those obviously don't have the external interest to justify the extra load either. If anything, a bigger external would -encourage- larger rankings instead of the other way around.

I think maybe we just needs a VP:DS ranking topic! Although for the class stuff in terms of FE 8/9, I'd imagine have a effectively identically functioning class in previous games is what kind of killed the argument there.

LFT: Finally got the sound on ePSXe to work right, so I'm diving into LFT. Started up a file using Tsukihime names for the theme...without actually having any idea what to make the characters. So, I turn to the local peanut gallery for ideas.

We have:

Shiki(Ramza)
Arihiko
Akiha
Hisui

Everyone's got Brave and Faith in the high 60s to 70 range, so can pretty much do anything. Any suggestions for the builds?

Well, I'm new, but quite experienced in game-playing, and this is probably the best place to introduce myself.

Right now I've been on a gaming streak with cortex command. Blowing up people by shooting them with a gun has never been so fun. Also, I've been playing crusader kings, trying to build up a kingdom to port over to EU3.

I wish my 360 was still working, because the day I bought Mirror's Edge was the same day I found out I got RRODed. Also, am really looking forward to Mass Effect 2. It can't come out soon enough.

Also, hello to all you peoples.
