And that is why you'll never play AtL2 again. I still wish I could go back in time and unplay the AtLs I played.

Nah. AtL2 at least had some surface value in the narrative/characters having discernible personalities. When I say Nostalgia is like an SNES game I mean it.

Lufia 1 style SNES game.

You really should specify "Early SNES" then, cause there's a fair amount of SNES (era) games that do not in fact apply.  Of course, just about all of them are in the late era, so applying the "Early" part does kill off most arguments.

...no, FF4 is not an exception here; while better than most games of its era in this regard, its still fails compared to most games in the later SNES era (despite popular claims otherwise.)

Clearly, Phantasy Star II is an exception. It's characters are SOOOOO well-developed. It's amazing how much characterization can be packed into a single line of text. Truly, Phantasy Star II perfected the art, and all other forms of media are adding needless details to obscure their inability to create such complex characters so concisely. This 'Nostalgia' game that Pyro's going on about is clearly just a more blatant imitation.

Edited because apparently my joke wasn't over-the-top enough not be taken seriously.

I think we defined PSII's value solely by its ending 'twist' and the death of a main PC heroine, and whether it had been done before. Since it was easily proven that PSII didn't do it first, its value was nulled. Fundamentally disproven.

In fairness, most people (including myself) do give a nod to PS2's Ending Twist.  Not so much cause of the whole "OMG EARTH!", but just the whole "its not happily ever after" aspect, and considering the time the game was made, it was kind of stylish.  It was unique, at least for its time, and it deserves credit for that.  Its the one thing I think most people can at least acknowledge PS2 for (the other things game gets hyped for were mostly slammed by "FF2 did them first, and many things better" IIRC)

And when you suffer in comparison to Final Fantasy II, you've fucked up.

ToV- Lessee.  Up to the second town on the second continent, after the royal pardon.  Only two of the secret boss achievements of... I believe 4? available though.  I think I did the right move on the last boss (knock him over when he rears up on his back legs) but didn't do it on the run I won the fight in.  Damn.

I wouldn't worry about that shit. Trying to get some of them (MISSION 16!!!!) in your first playthrough is a pain in the ass. Wait till your second run, when you've carried over all your end-game items and Yuri has the Last Fencer. Have everyone else do nothing and wait for your chance, makes it one billion times easier.

Speaking of which, I'm working on my third "finally get everything" playthrough, after banking enough grade to carry over items and skills, have the 99 item cap, and get 2x grade and 10x experience. I'm at the same place the Captain is, except that I'm currently level 65.

ToV- Tried out Unknown Duke, he actaully can kill with Big Bang as people claimed. But that's a totally moot point. Hooray to Yuri OHKOing with Zankantou. They seriously need to reduce the effect of Combination 1/2/3, it makes the Zankantou so ridiculous to the point of making Yuri/Flynn Love Love Ken pointless.

And Putty has become a mini Rita, the game just got easier and easier. Despite Spiral Draco is tie as broken as Magna Deus, he fells 10 times as fast thanks to ToV cast being broken crack.

If you aren't going to specifically aim for them all I wouldn't stress toooo hard over them, it is kind of a "You must be this self hating to ride" kind of thing.  It gives some of the bosses some nice extra drops, some of them not so much.  Probably worth just looking up what it gives and decide if you want to do them.  Some of them you DO want to do since they are actually the way you are meant to do the fight, some of them not so much.  I am torn between some of them are a bit to obscure and do make the fight easier (Those tend to be the easier ones to get though) and some of them are not that exciting being knock this person down events (Which vary on difficulty waaaaay to much)

Not missions 16 though.  You mixed up 16 and 17 Rob.  16 is this Secret Mission: Estellise (VS. Estillise. Used the item, Mother's Momento.)  17 is the FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK one.  It is much more manageable when know how it works in that you have to let his animation a play after you start it before you can get the achievement.  Retarded one though since it is impossible to know to do that beforehand.

I tried that.  It would work if you couldn't hit him out of the animation with Rain if you do it to fast/time it wrong.  So you can fail to do it BECAUSE YOU DID WHAT YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO DO.  Stupid fucking pile of bullshit.  Just have to wait for him to start flopping around a bit and then Rain will do what you need it to.  I spent about an hour on that fucking thing.

Oh, I"m not going to get too miserable about missing them.  Moreso just A) quick way to say where I am and B) note that I still, in fact, am not terribly good at Tales.  Admittedly, I'm not sure when the game really hinted at "Knock him off the boat!" and I can imagine similar "... wait, that's what you do?" moments are also common.
That said, I gather that you have to get them all in one playthrough to get the attatched title, so probably a replay thing in general, as you said.

17 is the FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK one.  It is much more manageable when know how it works in that you have to let his animation a play after you start it before you can get the achievement.  Retarded one though since it is impossible to know to do that beforehand.

It is pretty easy once you know which animation to hit. Let Yuri goes overlimit first and does a Bakusaijin a few time and the guard break will occur. Than just wait. Then when he is grabbing to his heart, snipe. This seems hard because of the misconception that you have to snipe Yeager immediately after guard break, which prevents the grab heart animation from happening as it have no room to kick in. In reality, guard break just unlock the grab heart animation. And that animation does not necessarily occur right after guard break. Sometime it can take him another attack loops or two before he grab onto his heart after the guard break.

So basically, you do this. Have Yuri spam like 6 Bakusaijin in a row and guard breaks. Set everyone to do nothing for the next 10 seconds, which is roughly the period of time that animation occur. It might take longer if he is in overlimit. Then snipe once he gran on to the heart.
This is actually a lot easier to do if he is in Overlimit too, as the initiation of the animation well not be interrupted, so you won't mess up even if you accidentally land an extra hit.

Yeah that is what I mean.  Rain is meant to be used right after a guard break for extra damage.  YOu need to hit him with Rain.  You need to do it some time after the guard break happens but without anyone else touching him.  All this with no indication what to do.  It is stupid.

I gave up on ToV after getting stuck at the third race out of I think five needed to get the special item required to complete the dog map. Well I've completed the game (though not the final's fell arms form) but I can't do anything else because I'm stubborn and want that damn item but suck too much at the quest to get it  :D

I reconnected the XBox last night though so I could play Condemned so I might do some more SO4 stuff. I dunno.

Condemned- I picked this up for three quid. I'm not very good, been killed lots of times but I've somehow managed to reach Chapter 3. Taser for awesmeness though apart from that not too keen on the concept of the gameplay. I don't mind killing monsters but people ... maybe I should have picked Resistance Fall of Man instead. Though I am enjoying the story/forensics factor of Condemned.

FE8: Started this yesterday. Between Moulder and Dozla, I've decided that this whole game is just a gallery of ridiculous moustaches.
Pretty fun, as expected of an FE. Currently using Franz and Neimi a lot (for some reason) while blatantly ignoring Seth (Jeigan~) and Gilliam. Luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute.
