Movie Quotes 8: A New Quiz In a New Board
« on: January 03, 2008, 02:50:00 AM »
You guys know the drill. Twenty quotes, four bonus, reverse-chronological order, PM responses, yada yada yada. You have until next Friday to respond, mass whipping will ensue if that's what it takes to get you lot moving. Not much else to note for now, except that number fifteen gets my vote for best dumb line in a good movie.

1. It's not hip-hop, it's Electro.

2. I beat the shit out of some kids today. But it was for a purpose. It made me feel good about myself. It was like I did something constructive with my life or something, I dunno, like I accomplished something.

3. Ted Nugent called. He wants his shirt back.

4. Until next time, dear readers...Off the record, on the QT, and very hush-hush.

5. I'm a mental patient, I'm supposed to act up!

6. It can't rain all the time.

7. You can't handle the truth!

8. It's not a tumor!

9. How's it going, royal ugly dudes?

10. Ten minutes to Wapner. We're definitely locked in this box with no TV.

11. No, I said "'allo," but that's close enough.

12. What is light without dark? I am part of you all!

13.  I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when my fear is gone I will turn and face fear's path, and only I will remain.

14. Fra-gee-lay. Must be Italian!

15. There is not one brain among them...except one.

16. Heeeeeere's Johnny!

17. Harold, everyone has the right to make an ass out of themselves. You just can't let the world judge you too much.

18. My life, when it is written, will read better than it lived. Henry Fitz-Empress, first Plantagenet, a king at twenty-one, the ablest soldier of an able time. He led men well, he cared for justice when he could and ruled, for thirty years, a state as great as Charlemagne's. He married out of love, a woman out of legend. Not in Alexandria, or Rome, or Camelot has there been such a queen. She bore him many children. But no sons. King Henry had no sons. He had three whiskered things but he disowned them. You're not mine! We're not connected! I deny you! None of you will get my crown, I leave you nothing and I wish you plague! May all your children breach and die!

19. You're tearing me apart!

20. I'll get you, my pretty...and your little dog too!

Bonus - Special Anglophilia Edition

1. I mean, they're sort of tall, and they don't talk too much, and they have fucking British accents, right? They talk like they're from England!

2. I saw something nasty in the woodshed.

3. I have just narrowly avoided having a buggering, and have come in here with the express intention of wishing one upon you.

4. If I said you had a beautiful body, would you hold it against me?

Man I really suck this time around. I got maybe 6 or 7.
Don't think of it as a novel. Think of it as a chance to retroactively win every argument you have ever walked away from.

Started out good, got raped later.  Think this is the first one where I got zero bonuses, and I couldn't even try and take an educated guess.

Yeah, it definitely looks like I was too hardcore with this one. Knew the bonuses were going to be rough, but only one person's got any of them so far.

did I send you a response, Cid?  Coulda sworn I did but it's not showing in my PMs.
Rocky: you do know what an A-bomb is, right?
Bullwinkle: A-bomb is what some people call our show!
Rocky: I don't think that's very funny...
Bullwinkle: Neither do they, apparently!

Time's up! Yeah, so, as noted above, this one was definitely too mean. I'll try to be less obscure next time. Flipside, we had a quote that everyone got for the first time ever. Even Tai. Wow. Answers:

1. It's not hip-hop, it's Electro.

Shaun of the Dead, line spoken by that fat guy whose name I forget.

2. I beat the shit out of some kids today. But it was for a purpose. It made me feel good about myself. It was like I did something constructive with my life or something, I dunno, like I accomplished something.

Bad Santa, line spoken by Billy Bob Thornton.

3. Ted Nugent called. He wants his shirt back.

Ocean's Eleven (remake), line spoken by George Clooney.

4. Until next time, dear readers...Off the record, on the QT, and very hush-hush.

L.A. Confidential, line spoken (more than once) by Danny Devito. How does only one of you know this?

5. I'm a mental patient, I'm supposed to act up!

Twelve Monkeys, line spoken by Brad Pitt.

6. It can't rain all the time.

The Crow, line spoken by Brandon Lee. It's also a song in the movie. A little surprised only one person got this. I mean, I don't even like the movie, but I thought it was fairly well-known among people my age. Oh well.

7. You can't handle the truth!

A Few Good Man, line spoken by Jack Nicholson.

8. It's not a tumor!

Kindergarten Cop, line slurred by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

9. How's it going, royal ugly dudes?

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, line spoken by Alex Winter. Be excellent to each other.

10. Ten minutes to Wapner. We're definitely locked in this box with no TV.

Rain Man, line spoken by Dustin Hoffman. The Wapner reference should be enough if you've seen it, really.

11. No, I said "'allo," but that's close enough.

Labyrinth, line spoken by that little blue worm thing. Yes, you can kill me for this one.

12. What is light without dark? I am part of you all!

Legend, scenery chewed by Tim Curry (as the freaking devil).

13.  I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when my fear is gone I will turn and face fear's path, and only I will remain.

Dune, line spoken by Kyle Maclachlan. Yes, Compman, I gave you credit for this one.

14. Fra-gee-lay. Must be Italian!

A Christmas Story, line spoken by Darren McGavin ("It's a major award!")

15. There is not one brain among them...except one.

Raiders of the Lost Ark, line spoken by John Rhys-Davies (in reference to the Nazis and the evil Frenchman who was helping them). I'm still amazed this wallbanger made it into the final cut. Such a dumb line, such a great movie.

16. Heeeeeere's Johnny!

The Shining, line spoken by Jack Nicholson. No one said The Tonight Show, which makes me glad.

17. Harold, everyone has the right to make an ass out of themselves. You just can't let the world judge you too much.

Harold and Maude, line spoken by Ruth Gordon.

The Lion In Winter, rant delivered by Peter O'Toole. Didn't want to dump this much text in, but I couldn't bring myself to cut the speech up. It's just too awesome.

19. You're tearing me apart!

Rebel Without a Cause, line spoken by James Dean (to none other than Thurston Howell III! How did he get off the island?)

20. I'll get you, my pretty...and your little dog too!

The Wizard of Oz, line spoken by Margaret Hamilton.

Bonus - Special Anglophilia Edition

1. I mean, they're sort of tall, and they don't talk too much, and they have fucking British accents, right? They talk like they're from England!

Gosford Park, line spoken by Bob Balaban (who is actually one of the two Americans in the movie. But hey, he's talking about British people!)

2. I saw something nasty in the woodshed.

Cold Comfort Farm, line spoken again and again by that creepy old woman. Yes, this was ultra-obscure.

3. I have just narrowly avoided having a buggering, and have come in here with the express intention of wishing one upon you.

Withnail & I, line spoken by Paul McGann. Otter-bait.

4. If I said you had a beautiful body, would you hold it against me?

I would've accepted Monty Python's Flying Circus or Monty Python's And Now For Something Completely Different...hell, even just saying Monty Python would've done it. Nevertheless, only Meeple got this.

Cool. One of two on the Raiders, and the only one to get Harold and Maude! My shot in the dark for 5 missed though (I guessed One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest)

Only 4 people getting A Christmas Story? What the FUCK do you people do on Christmas?

I actually got Bonus 4 right?

Wow.  No, it wasn't a complete wild guess out of nowhere, more of a Line sounds like something I remember from there, but figured it was from something else and line I remember was very similar and easily confused.  Nevertheless, proof it doesn't hurt to guess, especially if there's some sort of rational reason behind it!

Oh, regarding Christmas story?  Yeah, saw it as well, but the line didn't really stick out at all, as I have no memory of it.

Man, I've seen a lot more of those than I remembered. Oh well.

And bonus #4 is from Monty Python? I call shenanigans, because that is definitely a Groucho Marx line. I didn't answer it because I couldn't remember which movie it was from.

oh goddammit!  Strago's right!  And I totally should've gotten that, too.

Though I got the speech from The Lion in Winter, so I can't be that sad.
Rocky: you do know what an A-bomb is, right?
Bullwinkle: A-bomb is what some people call our show!
Rocky: I don't think that's very funny...
Bullwinkle: Neither do they, apparently!

Sadly, The Lion in Winter was ruined for me by the performance I saw of what must easily be the worst mounting of the stage version ever conceived. Seriously, I get dry heaves just thinking about it.

...wait, there's a Dune -movie-? Recognized the line from the book, presumed another movie was ripping it off, didn't think that it was ever adapted for screen.

Hah.
