Easily the best Venture Bros. character.  Well.  Next to Girl Hitler.

You don't know class, man.  Fine, best one-off/barely recurring side character?  He's got to win that award.

EDIT: Damn it I am forgetting Bowie.  Although since he had that Nazi phase isn't he a little bit subordinate to Girl Hitler?  How does Bowie's Nazi Loyalties work there?

Cycling through some of my old favorite characters that I DO know from some comic books. This is Nemesis from WildC.A.T.s. Sort of how I feel at the moment. Also changed my forums to the dark black theme, but I really don't like it or the shaded bars, so I'm going back to the SMF Machines light blue one. Thought the color would border the av better.

I remember volume 3 of WildC.A.T.s was actually really, really good. It was also mostly devoid of conventional superhero action.

WildC.A.T.s has a few periods of greatness.  The first series got some quality writing from James Robinson and Alan Moore (heard of him?).  #15-34 of the 1st series.  Mostly conventional superhero stuff, written by guys who have a talent for character.  Read 'em.

Second and third series were written by Joe Casey, of X-Men infamy.  I take it this is what you're referring to.  After the bad fanfic he turned Uncanny X-Men into, it burns me up to say they're good.

Third series is the one where Spartan gets his legs shot off or whatever and takes over HALO Industries, and proceeds to try and subtly revamp society through introducing technologies and ideas through the marketplace, while Grifter does his wetwork, right?

I am confused and slightly aroused by Notmiki's avatar I DO NOT LIKE THIS PLEASE MAKE IT STOP WHAT IS THIS FEELING COULD IT BE LOVE NO ROBOTS CAN'T LOVE ...

Erk.  I mean, what the hell is that thing.  That manages to disturb me more than a lot of the avatars here and I have no idea why.

Yep.  Good old Maxine Manchester.

yep.  though I'm not sure about the 'subtle' part.

As disturbing as her getting hit on by a robot death-machine while they're fightin'?

When I say subtle, I mean by superhero standards. The other examples of a superhero deciding to change society are Superman 4, when he stole everyone's nuclear missiles and threw them in to the sun and made sure everyone knew it was him, and Watchmen, which has heroes who are many things, but not subtle.

And the Authority, back in the good old days when they took over the US.  Superheroes often do things that by all rights should mean worldwide changes, but in a shared universe, the status quo is damn hard to overcome.  Not only do you have to write it, you've got to have all the other writers acknowledge it.  Nature of the beast.

Well, now you have the compartmentalized author arcs where everything gets wrapped up quick and goes back to the way it was.

Frequently, they have big editors' meetings so that they can all shift in the same direction at once (back in the old days they didn't decide the entire line needed rebranding every time they did so, though).  Apparently, the X-Men meeting where they decided that, given she had exploded a star and snuffed out billions of innocent alien lives, they needed to kill Dark Phoenix involved a lot of crying.

Showed Grefter the first season of Upright Citizen's Brigade last night. Steve Youngblood is too awesome not to avatar. This'll have to do until I can get GIMP reloaded on my comp.
