We ran a DL trivia contest several years back, and it got a fairly good reception. Going to run another one, but in the Jeopardy format.

Edit: Updated info for trivia 2.

Location: IRC, in #rpgdltrivia
Time: Friday, March 20th, 10:00 PM EST
Judges: superaielman
Rules: Normal Jeopardy rules. All answers in the form of a question. There will be two rounds, with six groups with five questions in each round plus final jeopardy. Everyone can play Final Jeopardy (Up to 3000 points or your score, whichever is higher).

How many players?
When you say "DL site", does that include NR, Nyarlie's Dungeon, or any of the material from the forums?

It sounds fun. But in addition to the laughable extent of my DL trivial knowledge, I also suffer from horrible horrible IRC LAG. This condition has been known to cause seizures and broken monitors.

At least I can watch.

Well, it starts out smooth, like IRC should be - a fast-paced action-adventure game not unlike Zelda Ocarina of Time. After about 2 minutes, it sort of slows down to something like playing Smash Bros Brawl online... and then suddenly crashes into Fighting-the-Netherworld-Queen-and-her-nine-thousand-mooks-in-OdinSphere style lag before finally ending up in the no-molecular-movement-whatsoever-absolute zero phase and I have to reboot my computer.

I think this is because I am forced to used CGI IRC due to the weird limitations of my Japanese internet provider.

Also, I like hyperbole.

Tal: There'd be six catagories, all of them specifically related to something with the DL.

Example:

Trademark Attacks B D C E F

I'll pick trademark attacks for 100.

Answer: The 'wailing' of this blue haired swordsman's victims is heard after this sword attack.

It's of course Wailing Soul Slash.

I feel happy, etc. If I pick for say 500 in the same catagory:

"While this immortal mage isn't ranked in the DL itself, his master and one of his fellow students is. Melf would be so proud of his favorite attack."

It's Acid Cloud for OB. (Albeledo being the game's boss Enchanter. Rashidi has access to Acid Cloud, as does Saradin.)

Pretty much exactly what you expect. It'll just be from DL games and fighters, nothing else.

Not really a fan of it being just about the DL itself then. I'd rather it be about RPGs in general. But I'd probably give it a shot anyways.

Restricting it to games ranked in the DL is a pretty good cutoff point for what's fair to quiz people on, though, I'd say. (oh god flashes of assessment theory blazing through my brain ow ;_;)

I'd say primarily ranked games, but using categories can help (for instance, NR, Obscura, etc.). At least, looking at the categories I thought up, we can even make the questions worth more correlate to non-DL stuff. I think limiting it to just DL is a bit...restrictive. I mean, who isn't familiar with, say, Benjamin's healing magic hurting the Dark King? That's not DL, but it's fairly common. Just my thoughts, but...mmm...

Definitely interested. Fridays I don't close up until 10, so while I should be back in plenty of time (closing takes all of 5 minutes as long as I can get all the dishes done first) it's not impossible I'll be a few minutes late.

Is there a log available? Or at least the list of questions?

I really wanted to come but I hadn't realized until too late that Friday evening in the States coincided with Valentine's Day in Japan. ...and it's pretty obvious which takes priority there.

Yeah, I'd like to try and do this monthly. It was a lot of fun, even if I was rushed for time and did most of the questions the day of the trivia contest.
