Star Ocean: Till the End of Time
« on: January 07, 2008, 02:07:14 PM »
Abandon all hope, ye who enter here...

No, not really.  Due to the above line, I figured it might be a good idea to compose this topic once more into a more concentrated, easier to read (and smaller, more organized) topic, compiling the most important aspects people likely care about if they're looking for damage numbers and the like.

First off, insane thanks to Neph and Captain K., as well as Niu and Clear Tranquil, and anyone else I'm fogetting, for their work on the original ones.  Captain K. provided extreme assistance with character base stats, while Neph worked on figuring out skill multipliers and resistance information.  Niu, as always, assisted in helping with the extremely esoteric features of the game.  Clear Tranquil pretty much went insane on Peppita and figured out how her weird skills worked, which was a major help.

Anyway...this is a typical Star Ocean game with some small differences.  I'll get to those later...stats first

HP: Die if these reach 0, used for some skills
MP: Die if these reach 0, used for some skills
ATT: Strengthens physical damage
DEF: Unstrengthens physical damage
HIT: Allows a physical attack to overcome AGL
AGL: Similar to evasion, if this is high enough, physicals kind of don't hit the mark
INT: Strengthens magic damage; does not act as magic defense

Like most Star Ocean games, this is an action RPG, where characters move in a 3D space.  In terms of attacks, there are 2 types, X and O.  X attacks are weak attacks.  O attacks are strong attacks.  Either can be used from medium/long-range or short-range, and the effects are usually a bit different.  In addition, all battle skills have the same stipulations (must be set to an X or O slot, long-range or short-range, etc.), which can affect canceling.

What is canceling?  In Star Ocean 3, characters have a gauge called the Fury Bar.  The Fury Bar ranges from 0 to 100, and dictates how often a character can attack.  If a character has 100 fury, they can use it to make an attack costing any amount of fury.  If the bar is only filled up to 20, only attacks that use 20 or less fury can be used.  In addition, cancel-combos work by utilizing the filled fury bars.  If a character uses an X attack, followed by an X skill, followed by an O skill, as long as the character has fury, they will chain each of those actions together in a combo.  In addition, each skill used will bestow a damage bonus on subsequent attacks as follows:

100% - 125% - 175% - 225% - 300% - 300% - ad infinitum

The first attack will be at normal power, second chain at 125% power, etc.  A character must have the requisite fury and (if necessary) HP/MP to attack.  If a character is running, and not attacking, their fury is 99 - if standing still, it's 100.  Moving requires 1 fury total for the character to move.  Completely random, but for 100% fury bar damages, I'll be using 99, not 100.

O attacks break enemy guard.  At full fury, characters get a fury shield effect that basically prevents X attacks from connecting.  O attacks break this.  You could argue them breaking evade, I suppose.

Levels are taken at level 65.  Equipment is assumed to be the best storebought stuff from Ruddle and Rumina, except in the case of Albel (Crimson Scourge for his weapon) and Adray (The Immortal for his weapon).  Equipment stats will be listed with the characters.  Additional pieces of equipment will be listed in a second post, along with other miscellaneous information.

All damage numbers listed are HP damage, unless otherwise noted.  For the mages (Adray, Sophia) who can set spells as battle skills, the X listing for the spell is how the spell would work if cast from the menu and not as a battle skill.

Damage numbers assume that Berserk is off and enemy defense is set at 100.  All attacks are assumed to connect fully with all their hits.  All attacks are considered to be at level 0 for simplicity's sake.  This hurts the spellcasters a bit, but simplifies things a lot.  I'll get to them eventually.  Skills that rise with level I will note in the character profiles.  I'm ignoring Charge and Aerial for the characters at the moment.  I'll add them later if pressed.

Miscellaneous information is a go!

Speeds

This all comes from Captain K., posted later in the topic.  Thank you very much for this assistance, Captain.  These are running speeds of the individual characters, with no modulations.  Lower is better here.

1) Fayt - 13.63
2) Mirage - 15.47
3) Nel - 15.56
4) Cliff - 16.03
5) Albel - 16.69
6) Adray - 18.16
7) Sophia - 19.09
8) Roger - 19.88
9) Peppita - 20.78
10) Maria - 25.00

Average - 18.029

Equipment

Fun synthed equipment time!  SO3, like the rest of the series, has an item creation system, which allows for fun weapons, armour and accessories to be created.  Yay!  This is the list of all of that cool stuff.  I didn't consider these up above, but these are here for your benefit if you want.

Weapons
Veinslay (Fayt): +900 ATT, +35 HIT
Rod of the Evil Eye (Sophia): +650 ATT, +130 INT, +40 HIT
Damask Cape (Peppita): +900 ATT, Attack Decision +1, +45 HIT
*Attack Decision adds an extra hit to the basic attacks (not to battle skills) that does 50% of the previous hit's damage
Mithril Gauntlets (Cliff, Mirage): +1000 ATT, +38 HIT
Ice Blades (Nel): +880 ATT, +45 HIT
Water Element
Paralyzer (Maria): +350 ATT, +32 HIT, Adds paralysis effect to all attacks (~10% per hit)
Claw of Judgment (Albel): +900 ATT, +45 HIT
Paladin's Helm (Roger): +1200 ATT, +40 HIT

In addition, the Maze of Tribulations and non-Sphere 211 optional dungeons have other available weapons that characters can use that aren't horribly cursed.  Some people might allow them, so here they are:

Heaven's Blade (Adray): +1400 ATT, +300 INT, +40 HIT, Nullifies fire damage
Helm of the Dark Eye (Roger): +1800 ATT, +45 HIT, Adds confusion effect to all attacks (~10% per hit)
Dark Fairie Claw (Albel): +1600 ATT, +49 HIT
Shadow Phase Gun (Maria) +1200 ATT, +41 HIT, +200 ATT (reproducible for a total bonus of +1600 ATT to the weapon's +1200 ATT base)
Elemental Ticklers (Nel) +1500 ATT, +55 HIT, +200 ATT (reproducible for a total bonus of +1600 ATT to the weapon's +1500 ATT base)
Raven Gauntlets (Cliff, Mirage) +1800 ATT, +42 HIT, +200 ATT (reproducible for a total bonus of +1600 ATT to the weapon's +1800 ATT base)

Pumpkin Wraith Rod (Sophia): +1400 ATT, +500 INT, +45 HIT, +200 ATT (reproducible for a total bonus of +1600 ATT to the weapon's +1400 ATT base)
Divine Avenger (ClFayt) +1600 ATT, +40 HIT, +500 ATT (reproducible for a total bonus of +4000 ATT to the weapon's +1600 ATT base)

Armour
Astral Armour (Fayt, Cliff, Roger): +140 DEF, +80 AGL, Immune to freezing, Immune to petrification, 30% chance to nullify magic attacks, +20 DEF (reproducible for a total bonus of +160 DEF to the armour's +140 base)

Luther - Part One
"How dare you!"
HP: 200000
MP: 60000
ATT: 1100
DEF: 100
AGL: 160
HIT: 1200
INT: 400

Strong Physical: 1800 damage, drains 50% fury, hits the area around Luther (he has other physicals, but this was the most damaging one; the paralysis rate seems to be 10% at best)
Laser Beams: 6 hits of 1200 damage (void-based symbology); this attack is...uh...horribly easy to dodge, as it's telegraphed pretty damn obviously, though the AoE is larger than the targetting would indicate

Luther - Part Two
"Data should behave as such!"
HP: 400000
MP: 120000
ATT: 1300
DEF: 150
AGL: 250
HIT: 1500
INT: 600

Usable Initially
Strong Physical: 3 hits of 2300 damage, drains 50% fury, straight line target (he has other physicals, but this was the most damaging one; the paralysis rate seems to be 10% at best; note that the third hit tends to not actually connect unless you're close to him)
Laser Beams: 6 hits of 1400 damage (void-based symbology); this attack is...uh...horribly easy to dodge, as it's telegraphed pretty damn obviously, though the AoE is larger than the targetting would indicate
Expansion Force: 4 hits of 1800 damage (220 MP damage), inflicts confusion ~10%, hits the area around Luther (typically only 1-2 hits will strike, which might be why the confusion rate seems so low...same with his physical)

Unlocks after taking ~10% MHP damage
Flaming Divide: 5 hits of 1800 damage (110 MP damage)

Unlocks after taking ~25% MHP damage
Perfect Symmetry: 8 hits of 1800 damage (110 MP damage), paralysis is really high (it went 20/20 in the testing I did...I assume it can fail, though; also, it usually only hits 6 times unless you're standing right where he fires it...granted, easy for him to do once paralyzed)

Unlocks after taking ~50% MHP damage
Insanity Prelude: Each hit deals 2300 damage (250 MP damage), instant death rate is pretty solid (went 8/8); hits a metric assload of times, so much I'm inclined to say it's basically death in a nicely wrapped giftbasket; granted, the # if hits is semi-random, but generally hits pretty damn hard multiple times

From what I can tell, Luther has many attacks available earlier, but the AI doesn't seem to like to use them until later. For instance, I had fought him 3 times and didn't see Expansion Force until he lost some HP, then the 4th time, he used it right away. There are also 2 FAQs that say Insanity Prelude unlocks at 50% HP, so I think he's just loathe to use it until he loses more HP - which makes sense, as he likes to spam it at really low HP.

These are some damage tests performed by MetalGearSolidBoy.  They're not in the format we normally use, but I'm archiving them here in case someone can gain some value from them.  Here's the full topic if you want to read it: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=536705&topic=42182728
=====================
Here are the HP kill times of a bunch of Level 10 skillsets I used against a ~325,000 health Ravitch (petrified) in Sphere 211. She also has 300,000+ MP, so skills that would normally cause an MP kill could not interfere.

All characters had an equal ATK of 960 with the following weapon factors equipped:

Adds fire-based damage
-3 Fury use
-1 Fury use
-50% Battle Skill HP use
-50% Battle Skill MP use (where applicable)

Skillsets involving normal attack usage had a different weapon setup:

Adds fire-based damage
Raises normal attack decision by 3
-3 Fury use
-1 Fury use
Shoots powerful balls of ice when attacking
Emits balls of light when attacking
Shoots balls of light when attacking
Emits long-range shockwaves when attacking

The Ravitch halves all elements, so the characters' ATK was essentially reduced to 480. The firework factors used weren't the greatest combination in the world, but those ones are all obtainable pretty early in the game.

Since Power Dance also boosts the ATK of other party members, the sets involving it were for solo curiosity only.

Character running speeds, tested by yours truly.  I had them run around the perimeter of an arena in the 2P versus mode.  I doublechecked the ones that were close to each other.

Fayt 13.63 seconds
Mirage  15.47
Nel 15.56
Cliff 16.03
Albel 16.69
Adray 18.16
Sophia 19.09
Roger 19.88
Peppita 20.78
Maria 25.00 (good thing she has a gun!)

Average 18.029 seconds

And no, Adray's speed is not a typo.  He takes a long time to start running, but once he's going he moves at a fair clip.  He's a marathon runner, not a sprinter.

Ok Cliff and Peppita wikis are updated -

http://www.rpgdl.com/wiki/index.php?title=Cliff

http://www.rpgdl.com/wiki/index.php?title=Peppita

All Peppita's HP damage for her offensive battle skills have been done (basic powerdanced damages w/o cancel combo bonuses) Just need to work on MP damages and some random stuff for her and that's pretty much it.

Cliff has his stats, his equipment and his basic battle skill info w/th Max Shockwave damage up at least~ For some reason I don't seem to have put up all of Cliff's HP damage in Neph's old topic along with all the other non Adray/Sophia characters ... so need to calculate and check the rest of that for him. Then I'll be starting the Mirage wiki and after that ... I don't know yet -_- There's Captain K's page for Adray related stuffs.

Hopefully having wiki links on hand will make things easier for people when looking for S03 info <_<

*pokes OK*

*pokes OK*

*pokes OK*

... what? ^_^

Chat discussion on this brought up the fact that people would like to see cancel combo damage taken with Berserk ON since a) everyone learns it and b) most players use it - certainly damage dealers like Maria, Peppita and Nel *should* be using it since their DEF is crappy anyway so using Berserk to sacrifice DEF for more damage is win for them.

If that's too much work for you both Dyher and Tonfa have expressed interested on stat topicing for this game so there's help there (although if people are going to trust them when they don't trust Captain K and us I don't know ^_~ We're going to end up with like dozens of stat topics on this game 'cause nobody trusts anybody else with it >.>)

**

Nel wiki is up for the Nel fanatics~

Max hit Whirlwind is insane o-o I don't know if anyone actually allows Nel a fifty hit WW in the DL though! (in game it'll only get tons of hits against massive sized things like Crosell or the dragon in the arena) I allow it because I'm generous like that <.<

Not at all.

This has just been me being very forgetful, busy, and completely stupid on several accounts.  I've had the stuff I was working on for the topic done offline for a while and haven't posted it (partly because...uh...I didn't realize I had posted it yet since I didn't recognize the name skimming the forum >_> - that's been changed!).  It's me completely forgetting to finish these up, which I'm working on changing.  I hadn't put this high up on my agenda, but when I get back, I'll finish that up and add what I have.

I do trust you and Capt.K a good deal - hence the thanks at the start of the topic >_>  Believe me, your Peppita work was and is outstanding, and Capt.K was absolutely vital to doing the topic in the first place (stat spreads, speeds, which I should thank him for again - THANK YOU!!!!).  I'm just a bit of a hard-ass (and have been one a bit recently) and like to check things a thousand times and verify again and again.  Nothing wrong with helping people do one stat topic, the more the merrier - making multiple ones about the same game without consulting someone  first or doing it because you think yours is better is what drives people insane (hey, anyone remember MMXCM!?).

Holy freaking crap awesme update OK! =D Really like it, the character pics and the 99 Fury damages <(^^)> Averages up as well w00t *gives OK a cookie*

I'm happy with the way Peppita came out, she has damage, MP damage, teh evil S03 confusion and supportive skills. I allow her counters as well.

1) No idea on that one! I rarely use Sophia anymore.

2) 5 average is probably about right for Kaboom. Number of hits depend on the size of the enemy and max hits appear to be fifteen if Kaboom doesn't knock the enemy away vs Chimera sized enemies.

The biggest thing that still needs work are the final hits on some things (METEOR SWARM FUCK OFF AND DIE) and 100 proficiency damages (since...uh...Sophia sucks balls when taken at 0 proficiency like everyone else - even 50 makes a huge difference - then again, I standardized everything for simplicity, so...), as well as Berserk set-ups.  Equipment updated, stats mostly updated (need to verify Uppercut's fury cost with additional hits past the first), pictures need a little work, need to clean up Luther a bit, modulate one or two other things, but most of it's there.

At some point, I might add other bosses, but...not now >_>  Flamingly gay computer programmers for Godlike, though!

Here's Kaboom vs Chimera!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnFx4TFz8k0&feature=related

1) 100 profiency damages? >.> You mean using each move 100 times? <.< That really makes that much of a difference? o_o I mean I do skill level but I usually only take notice of it at min and max (L10)

2) Yeah ... I wouldn't worry about that Dream Hammer thing. How do you calculate 0.5 of a hit anyway >.> Don't do your head in over that. Peppita doesn't need it, she'd probably just destroy the averages again with it's damage with Power Dance + Berserk anyway and everyone would hate her again.

Those are the *non* Berserk 99 Fury damages? Wow.

I dont know if this was corrected in one of the posts but canceling is 100%(normal)-175%(first chain)-200%(2nd chain)-250%(3rd chain)-300%(final)

Dream Hammer - O 36216 HP damage

Averages -

99 Fury HP Damages: 31794

**1) Peppita - 58711 (Short X-Fairie Friend X 125%-Fairie Friend O 175%-Fairie Friend X 225%) [9% HP loss])**
1) Nel - 42240 (Short X-Divine Wrath X 125%-Divine Wrath O 175%) [17% HP loss]
2) Maria - 42112 (Short X-Energy Burst X 125%) [4% HP loss]
3) Cliff - 41305 (Short X-Max Shockwave X 125%-Max Shockwave O 175%) [16% HP loss]
4) Peppita - 36216 HP damage
5) Mirage - 35555 (Short X-Acrobat Locus X 125%-Triple Kick O 175%-Acrobat Locus X 225%) [13% HP loss]
6) Adray - 25702 (Short X-Emotion Torrent X 125%-Emotion Torrent O 175%-Emotion Torrent X 225%) [16% HP loss]
7) Fayt - 23026 (Short X-Side Kick X 125%-Side Kick O 175%-Side Kick X 225%-Side Kick O 300%) [12% HP loss]
8) Albel - 21827 (Short X-Double Slash of Fury X 125%) [Effectively 0% HP loss]
9) Roger - 17670 (Short X-Star Fall X 125%-Fiery Axe O 175%) [10% HP loss]
10) Sophia - 9791 (Short X-Southern Cross X 125%-Southern Cross O 175%) [9% MP loss]

That's without Power Dance. I don't have the exact figures yet for Power Dance > Dream Hammer yet but it's possible Peppita tops 40'000+ with it.

Also I feel it's worth pointing out that even if people force Peppita alone to hit variance factors that Faerie Friend's damage modifiers are powerful enough that even missing a few hits she's probably still doing above average damage =-)

OK or CT, can either of you explain why some characters' damage changed so dramatically from the earlier version of the damage posted? Sophia/Roger nosedived in particular, but a number of other characters (Nel, Cliff) fell significantly too.

Erwin Schrödinger will kill you like a cat in a box.
Maybe.

Did anybody save the other averages? From what I can remember different moves/skill sets were used for some of the characters (Maria - Scatter Beams, Roger - Land Mines, Sophia - Gremlins) than the ones here, that might explain some of the differences. Also irrc nobody was really sure how spell damage was calculated so were just working by ear.

In Roger's case in game he has to chain Land Mines to the desired % then run around placing the mines which explode after a certain amount of time. Maybe OK figured that would be Turn 2 damage or something, dunno.

Couple reasons -

1) Assumed defense in the damage equations this time compared to the previous topic (100 - doesn't drop by a huge amount, but drops it a bit).  For reference, this drops Max Shockwave down by about 1000 damage, and Divine Wrath by about 2000.

2) Assumed for the moment (when I did the thing) that all skills were level 0, since I couldn't get a consensus on what levels they should be.  Been meaning to correct that.  This makes a huge difference for spells (unless the equations are off) - Sophia should do shitloads with even 100 proficiency.  However, I'll just have to sit down some time and decide what I view as normal here - she stands to gain the most from this, as in, 100 proficiency should put Gremlins at around ~10500 HP damage and ~12500 MP damage (again, assuming level 0, and the equations are correct), with Blood Scylla dealing ~8k to HP and MP (and healing).  This is the biggest impact, as it raises the hits of a lot of skills (a lot of Roger's and Maria's skills in particular) by a good deal as the level goes up.

3) I ignored, as per others, really off-wall skills (Roger's LAND MINES) due to their nature as skills that aren't made to be in-your-face-combat skills.  Roger's best is Land Mines, but since it involves PLACING LAND MINES ON THE GROUND FOR PEOPLE TO WALK IN TO, I ignored that in the averages.

3) Guess the other thing needed is Berserk averages in there.  Guess I can take a break from Persona 4 for this >_>

Anyone have an issue if I just assume 100 proficiency?  I think that's level 2?

*nod nods*

I assumed as much, that all definitely makes sense.

L2 skills for all seems like the least work so if that works for you go for it ^_^ If you're going for the Berserks though perhaps Peppita would get more out of working Power Dance into the Faerie Friends. I don't know if you work from direct calculations or in game values but for Power Dance it increases ATK by something like an extra 5% per cancel bonus (after the initial 1.75% boost) I'm not sure exactly how much it increases per skill level though apart from the amount at L10! Another option would be L5/6 skills for all which seems like the most balanced option going by an in game playthrough but that would mean more work so we'll just have to eat it. It would give Maria higher level Scatter Beams though (her best in game skill) which she usually spams like crazy.

You don't have to take a break from P4 if you're really enjoying it. This isn't that a big deal I don't think. If you need any help with it though just say, I'm back to playing it again anyway >_>

Well, ideally, you'd find some way to scale characters based on how long you have them.  I've had some thoughts on this, but it's complicated.  So, Nel's Healing will be a higher level than Adray's, and Adray's higher than Sophia's, due to how long you have them.  Granted, that's a nightmare.  Some skills also won't be used as often, since they aren't that great, while others will be used more often.  I think 100 proficiency is fine - it matters mostly for spells.

I think a standardized average like 100 uses works pretty well here. Towards the endgame, L2-3 is about where my skills would have averaged out to, between the useless skills I never used, the useless characters I never used, and things like Hammer of Might which I maxed out before getting Sophia... >.>;;

I personally also prefer a standardized proficiency/experience level for characters in stat topics because  it's easier to extrapolate level advantages based on how early a character is available. If the level advantages are already figured into the averages, I find it harder to reverse-extrapolate to standardized proficiency/experience levels. I guess FE7 Nino is the normal example, here? It's easier for me to look at the stat topic with her level standardized to everyone else's and then think 'Oh, she was a late-joiner, so she's not as good as advertised' than to see her stats at some arbitrary disadvantaged level and then try to figure out where she'd be if I was judging her based on a standardized setting.

(And yes, I'm not quite decided where I stand on how I view characters who are late-joiners or high-starting-level types... so it waffles back and forth while I'm figuring it out. ATM, I'm leaning towards enforcing level advantages/disadvantages because it reflects in-game performance more closely, but still not sure...)

Thanks guys. Standardized works best then I think. I find with this game it's quality not quantity that counts (I know some people that picked up Roger at Duggus, never used him and he was still L6 with 0 skill proficiency at the end of disc one >_>) So one could have a character for ages and not do anything with them or stop to train a favourite character up when they join. This mainly applies to Sophia, Peppita and Mirage but it can apply to Maria too. When she joins you already have a worked on Nel with a better weapon but if you give Maria the same treatment she's soon breaking the game.

Djinn: RE level advantages/disadvantages - I usually solo Peppita/Sophia up to the level average of when they join myself but mileage will very. Moonbase and Styx are ripe for EXP and often gamers end up high levelled if they stop there a while. Sometimes I get Faerie Friend, depends on how much abuse I feel like giving the enemy >_>

I ended up with a L3 Blood Scylla and L3 Gremlins from the messing around I did the other night. Within 100 proficiency with each. Power Dance also ends up at L3 (104 proficiency raises the spell/dance level to L4) I think it's just spells/dances that can be higher than L2 within 100 proficiency but there might be others like Fayt's Side Kick irrc.

Well, for the DL, you must assume the character in question has been used as part of the main team, no matter how bad. It's not fair to double penalise a character for sucking (not only are you bad, but we're going to make you worse because people won't use you and you'll be underlevelled!). So the comments about Roger don't really apply.

Similarly, you shouldn't show preferential treatment to a character over another. You want to give Peppita/Sophia 100,000 (warning: made-up number) Experience in Moonbase/Styx? Give that to everyone else in the party, too, so they will always maintain some semblance of a level lead, although it shrinks because higher levelled characters need more Exp to level up.

Granted, I currently consider everyone in RPGs at equal levels anyway, but have been considering switching over to not doing so. (I'm actually a bit more inclined to cut Nino a little slack because the game rewards raw Exp gain... but even so she'll dive to Light with even, say, 5 levels taken away.) For some RPGs it can make a pretty big difference. It's just very difficult, often, to calculate what the levels should be (except for games like Phantasy Star 4 where the differences are due to level gain rate). I do intend to do it for the Fire Emblem games when I'm not lazy.

Oh yeah, of course. I actually use Roger myself since I don't see the point of taking along an optional if I'm never going to use them, besides I'm probably in the minority here but I don't think he's really that bad early on.

Yeah, that's what I did the first time I took along Peppita (Cliff/Albel/Peppita team - Cliff and Albel were L50+ from trying to do the optional part of Mosel on disc one >_>) and like you said the level lead shrinks in the end.

I suppose I should have made it clearer that depending on what type of game I'm playing I'll level up all characters not just Peppita/Sophia up to the party average when they join >_> So when Roger joins I build him up, then Maria and so on <_< Trying to keep things balanced like that definitely isn't the standard way of playing a game I guess but I find that to be the most fair when trying to compare between the characters.

Hrnn, I suck at explaining things. Sorry about that.

I was thinking of an alternative big damage option for Peppita (and this effects Maria too to an extent)

Power Dance modifies attack/damage by 1.75 at L1 right so how about she does this? -

Turn 1 - Power Dance
Turn 2 - 63378 HP Damage (Dream Hammer - O)

Maria -

Turn 1 - Power Up
Turn 2 - 63168 HP damage (Short X-Energy Burst X 125%)

Does that mean they OHKO on turn 2?

Please don't hate me >_>

Certainly not, given how the SO3 average is somewhere in the 40k area with Berserk IIRC. That would get them 2HKOing after the buffing, at least (That's around 1.5x average damage? Not a great 2HKO, but passable enough).
