KoF12 has bigger sprites and a lot more frames of animation
Point taken--that doesn't translate very clearly over Youtube >_>

KoF12 is moving back towards older KoF gameplay[kinda like what SF4 did with SF], which is actually pretty easy and intuitive stuff. 'smy main reasoning for picking it, Blazblue is a lot easier than GG but still might get some reactions of WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO from a bunch of people - something I'm trying to avoid. If you've played any SC, you can play SC4, and if you've played SF2 you can play SF4. Brawl, well, everyone plays Brawl >_>;

I like how there is discussion of complexity and nub friendliness in fighters with SC versus VF4 and then right after it KoF and GG pop up in conversation and no one even bats an eyelid.

That said, needs more Marvel VS Capcom if you want flashy and not boring.

Actually I have to disagree there, 2D fighters that have 6 buttons just for the most basic hits and involve various arcane motions to do anything more complex than basic jabs and kicks are not user friendly for people not familiar with the genre, overcomplex motions are a huge flaw of the genre and why it has very little casual appeal. Compare this to SC where a direction and button can do 80% of the moves in the game and they usually are pretty logical. Down/forward vertical is the universal launcher and so on.

(This is SERIOUS BUSINESS)

What Tonfa said.

They are easy because you are into the type of game.  Throw random people at KoF and they are going to have no fucking clue what is going on.  This is more your average gamer knowing little beyond SF and 3d fighters these days though. (Fuck you SF4 for having QCFx2 PPP moves)

Edit - And of course the main point was obviously GG:XX I mean seriously, wasn't that blatantly obvious?

Edit 2 - Also disclaimer for jokes, realise I might have to put this in here because I am stirring Xer up on Fighters which is touchy ground.

Oh yeah I have to jump in and say this as well, the complexity says nothing about the quality of the games.  They are generally really good fighters (better than SC probably fairly easilly to be honest), just not user friendly.  I mean I have loved reading the SF2HDR site, but man, some of that stuff is just so completely impenetrable to the casual gamer just picking the game up.

Like Ken having Invincible during the rise of his Medium Dragon Punch in it is great thing for the game and all that, but fuck me if you don't play it pro you have no goddamned clue.  This is a good thing regardless of that fact.

Well yes. VF is a really balanced tourney fighter[the real reason I dislike it is because it's dry and unexciting], and Guilty Gear is maddening fun chaos when you know the specifics. Good fighters always pack depth and balance[though how much differs depending on the game], but for the sake of getting people who DON'T play fighters super seriously or heavily I'm trying to go for games that are still good and enjoyable even if you don't know how to do an FADC in SF4 or how to do Badlands Loops with Testament in GG >_>;

Mmmmmm Marvel's... well when you take away the tourney scene Marvel's not so bad. I can try to work MvC2 in place of KoF if enough people say they'd want it.

That is to say, everyone should speak up on if they want Marvel in or not. >_>; I don't want to change plans so suddenly when I'm not even sure people will want to play it.

MvC is the perfect tournament fighting game. Simple controls and everyone knows the characters. It is infinitely better than KoF anything.

Hahahahahahahaha.  It really isn't if you have people that can play who do so seriously, but yeah, for shits and giggles, MvC is good times.

If you got people playing seriously I hope you enjoy getting a Juggernaut in your face whenever you try to do like anything at all.

I can bring MvC2 with everything unlocked.  I also intend to bring:

Games to loan (also, need to take stock of the ones I've loaned out!)
Probably my XBox, maybe the Wii, with some games (FE10, L4D, etc.)
Bang!

...uh...well, let me know what else.  >_>

Not that creative now, since I don't know 100% if I'm coming or not (but 99% sure I can!).

BlazBlue is a spiritual sequel to GG, but I found it significantly more intuitive. As in... I can't beat the 2nd computer opponent on GG:XX, but the first time I sat down with BlazBlue, I got to the final boss on a single 100-yen coin.

The really complicated abilities don't have to factor into the game in my opinion. Generally just knowing what each of your direction+attack abilities do is enough to be competitive even with players who have mad I-No skill. It's more about timing and baiting your opponent I've noticed... kind of reminds me of Smash in that sense.

MvC actually kinda sounds like a good game for this sort of thing considering that most of us aren't heavy fighter players anyway.  Sure, it's a horrible competitive game at high levels but we probably don't need to worry about that. <_<

I intend to stay out of the tourny myself unless that one extra player is needed to make a bracket work.

Also, yes, I've got prizes covered. There will be prizes for 1st/2nd/3rd as is standard, and it's about $60 worth of prizes total. Don't get your hopes up for anything too awesome though, I'm deliberately going pretty generic for this.

and if you've played SF2 you can play SF4.
If DLC2007 is any indication, a lot of DLers in the fighting tournament didn't remember anything about playing SF2 (even if they may have played it at some point in their lives).  There were exceptions, of course, ranging from "I remember how to spam fireballs" to "holy fuck Meeple!"

So uhh...yeah, I wouldn't make too many assumptions about familiarity with SF2.

Now consider SSBM--about six or seven people were pretty into it, with a fairly crushing skill gap.  This included Alex, as the veteran tournament player, and Zenny, as someone who had completely dominated the practice rounds.  Yet neither Alex nor Zenny were even in the finals; furthermore, the final few rounds of SSBM seemed to be considered by most to be the climax of the tournament.

Overall I'm not reeeally feeling the "lets pick all games we don't know, instead of a game that several of us are really into" argument.  For that matter, I also doubt PoFV is a foregone conclusion, the same way SSBM 07 didn't go as predicted.  I mean, back before I knew any of the PoFV mechanics (like, I never used charge or focus) I was still able to take a game off of Laggy through pure dodge hax.  >_>

It's not even so much that, as there's a crushing gap between the people who play Touhou commonly and have some natural skill at it, and those that....don't, and Alex...really is that good. But it's mostly the gap, and the amount of people on one side of it.

I wouldn't say any of us have a reputation for being really good at Smash, as in tournament-level play, in general, unless I missed something. Pretty much anyone that's taken out a Touhou Lunatic is in the top 10% of players by definition; We have multiple people that are going to be there that have. (Also Yakko's unrealistically good at PoFV, IIRC he's 1cced Lunatic with Tewi.)

Add in the fact that IaMP's bomb mechanics and general playstyle is not going to be intuitive at all to people(Charging bombs, manual bombing being a terrible idea except when it isn't, how your attacks effect the opposite screen.), and I'm not sure if you can scrape up 16 people interested in vs shooters enough to get slaughtered. I could be wrong on this, but...it does seem more niche.

...'sides, someone would have to bring it and install it on a computer there, and does Meeple even have a computer that's in any reasonable position to be used for this? A laptop wouldn't realistically work, too small of a screen.

Edit:

Also I'd put a vote for MvC over KoF. MvC2 sounds like it'd be too easy for someone with any remote knowledge of it to smash the competition though, from what I've heard of it.

Edit 2:

Man, that just means the DL doesn't play fighting games much, more than anything. It's hard to get much simpler for raw inputs than SF2.

(Brawl does it. And uh. I suppose some games are easier to buttonmash without knowing anything in due to their combo systems, not that you'll win against someone that does know the game. That's about it.)

SF4 is, much more importantly, ridiculously stylish. Let's keep this in perspective, we want games that A: Are hopefully not going to be a slaughter, and B: Are going to be fun for people who don't play them and have a chance of being slaughtered by people that do.

I'll let you be the judge of this!

All the realistically usable computers are Upstairs.  The only ones to see any sort of remote use are either my own (the one I'm on at this very moment) *OR* the one in what use to be My Sister's Room (she moved out, etc.) and I would gather that only people staying at my house during the Con (ie the internationals) would be even using that, if at all, so realistically, its just the Computer in my Room (Which kind of sucks, mind.)

We'll be doing mostly everything in the Basement.
