We've had various incarnations of this topic over the years, measuring how much you like a game's cast/what'd you rank from the game/how much you respect the duellers, etc. Well, we haven't had one of these in a while so I figured I'd restart the topic to give us something to talk about during the downtime. Archived topics are listed above.


Breath of Fire 1! Part of one of the DL's strongest series, it's given us a couple of Godlike champions and... Mogu. Whoof. Quite a spread there. On the other hand, Star Ocean 2's record speaks for itself- several downgrades and one of the most memorable RPGP-DL feuds, not to mention the terror of Wiseman in Godlike.

Breath of Fire 1:

Favorite dueller: Ryu1. Donno.
Least favorite dueller: Sara.

Strongest dueller: Myria. Jade if you don't allow her uber form.
Weakest dueller: Gobi.

Favorite moment in the DL with this game: Jade beating Rem. </oldschool>
Least favorite moment in the DL with this game: Karn losing to Peppita. I don't care if it's legit or not, I just really hate Peppita.

A character you'd like to see added to the game: NA.
A character you wouldn't have ranked from this game: I'd have split up Myria, maybe? Does that count? It's pretty well ranked.

Any other notes/thoughts about the game?: The Sara hype can burn.

Star Ocean 2:

Favorite dueller: Claude. Easy. I like him and he does what he does in game in the DL- smash shit and resist elements.
Least favorite dueller: Marsillo. Should not be ranked.

Strongest dueller: Indalecio.
Weakest dueller: Nicolus.

Favorite moment in the DL with this game: Claude beating Lezard.
Least favorite moment in the DL with this game: Erim beating Claude. Wish I had known he could block ID at the time.

A character you'd like to see added to the game: NA.
A character you wouldn't have ranked from this game: About half the wiseman due to art concerns.


Any other notes/thoughts about the game:  PC cast is neat for the most part. For the most part they can compete in their division with the exception of Rena, and they draw well.

Breath of Fire 1:

Favorite dueller: Sara. Crazy durability is fun. Also bafflingly attracts haters, which is amusing. Probably people focussing on the lightning magic and forgetting the physical is twice as strong.
Least favorite dueller: Ox. Because he's way too slow to do anything, yet people still act like HOLY CRAP 110% AVERAGE HP AND FULLHEALING = UNKILLABLE, HIGH MIDDLE!

Strongest dueller: Myria. WTF Durability/speed/damage combo.
Weakest dueller: Mogu or Gobi. Probably Mogu, I think we decided, though it's hard to say.

Favorite moment in the DL with this game: Season 16 Light. Sara had no fucking business there and it was fun to argue her up. The WW match is probably the highlight.
Least favorite moment in the DL with this game: Jade's random struggles with Dario and Piastol MDef hype was pretty annoying.

A character you'd like to see added to the game: Mote, though realistically the game's fine as is.
A character you wouldn't have ranked from this game: I can't really conceive of cutting anyone. Splitting Myria... dunno if that can be justified, for all that part of me likes it.

Any other notes/thoughts about the game? Jade getting a title also ruled, he deserves more than one. Best "second best dueller" in any game by far, I'd imaging. Oh wait, Myria3/Ryu3. Hmm. <_<


Star Ocean 2:

Favorite dueller: Don't really have one, the cast fills me with apathy on average. Berle, maybe.
Least favorite dueller: INDALECIO. Oh god. Overhyped limit bosses are the worst. See also: VP2.

Strongest dueller: Indalecio. As overrated as he is... yeah, Berle's not better.
Weakest dueller: Nicolus. Insulting that it's not Celine.

Favorite moment in the DL with this game: Claude beating Lezard.
Least favorite moment in the DL with this game: Claude beating Angelo? Nothing here is overly bothersome.

A character you'd like to see added to the game: I can't begin to imagine who we even -could- add. Best remaining idea is Shin? Yeah, not happening.
A character you wouldn't have ranked from this game: I guess you could dump the scrub trio, but I have a hard time justifying the cutting of any further Wise Men personally.


Any other notes/thoughts about the game? For a game that has been around as long as it has, with as large a cast as it has, and as many objectively notable duellers as it has, I don't care about it much at all. PC cast is too murky for my tastes, bosses... Indalecio sucks. And yes, Time of Truth damn well takes a turn.

Favorite dueller: Nina 1, for all that I think she isn't as good as hyped.
Least favorite dueller: Myria. If people really see her with that 9 PC HP and 175 speed...then she should probably be booted for being overpowered.

Strongest dueller: Myria...
Weakest dueller: One of those wretched fighters.

Favorite moment in the DL with this game: Jade losing to Saverok...
Least favorite moment in the DL with this game: None stand out.

A character you wouldn't have ranked from this game: I wouldn't mind the two failures being there, but wouldn't actively go out of my way to boot them.

Star Ocean 2:

Favorite dueller: Claude. Can never objectively defend this!
Least favorite dueller: Nicolus. Worthless

Strongest dueller: Indalecio
Weakest dueller: Nicolus

Favorite moment in the DL with this game: Claude smashing Amon. Having his massive ass weakness that is a giant hamper in came come up DL relevant/Claude getting revenge for that Erim thing.
Least favorite moment in the DL with this game: Nothing stands out.

A character you wouldn't have ranked from this game: A few of the Wisemen likely. This shit ones.

Breath of Fire 1:

Favorite dueller: Uh. Bleu. This isn't a great game for interest.
Least favorite dueller: Myria.

Strongest dueller: Myria. It fields 3/4 Godlikes, so it says something that she wins without a second thought anyway.
Weakest dueller: Mogu.

Favorite moment in the DL with this game: None. I don't have anything against it, but BoF1 tends not to ping me.
Least favorite moment in the DL with this game: Myria championships.

A character you'd like to see added to the game: Mote.
A character you wouldn't have ranked from this game: Sara. She's not bad, just borderline and very interp-y.

Any other notes/thoughts about the game?

Makes me go eh.

Star Ocean 2:

Favorite dueller: Dias or Indalecio.
Least favorite dueller: Ashton.

Strongest dueller: Indalecio. While respect varies, he's a good Godlike.
Weakest dueller: Uh, Celine? Any of the crappy Light mages work.

Favorite moment in the DL with this game: Claude versus Angelo. That was an awesome fight.
Least favorite moment in the DL with this game: Indalecio losing to Ryu 4. Arghfuckle.

A character you'd like to see added to the game: Uh, Shin? The game's very well ranked.
A character you wouldn't have ranked from this game: Pick any of the three scrub wisemen.

Any other notes/thoughts about the game?

It's a DL staple and a quirky bit of fun. Even the scrubby wise men can amuse, which makes it all the riper.

Least favorite moment in the DL with this game: Nina 1 getting robbed by Ryu.

Any other notes/thoughts about the game? It's a solid cast, although nothing stands out.

Star Ocean 2:

Favorite dueller: Rena.
Least favorite dueller: Cyril. Godlike boss I don't remember!

Strongest dueller: Indy.
Weakest dueller: Leon? Who cares.

Favorite moment in the DL with this game: I generally like Indy, so just the fact that he has 8 wins as a package makes me pretty happy despite antihype.
Least favorite moment in the DL with this game: Claude beating Angelo. Fuck off, Claude.

A character you'd like to see added to the game: Ha ha ha ha ha no.
A character you wouldn't have ranked from this game: I would have no problem with booting all the Wiseman except Indy.

Any other notes/thoughts about the game? What a wretched cast full of WISEMAN SHIT.

Favorite dueler: Nina1. Evil little healer with no damage who manages to screw opponents over anyway.
Least favorite dueler: Bo I guess? Lacks the complete mockery value that Mogu and Gobi have, and is generally the blandest dueler too.

Strongest dueler: Myria. No contest.
Weakest dueler: Mogu. Gobi with worse stats!

Favorite moment in the DL with this game: Nina winning middle a long time ago? Yeah, not sure.
Least favorite moment in the DL with this game: Jade losing to Piastol *punts Magic Defense hype*

A character you'd like to see added to the game: Mote. Has some plot, and fun dueler. 
A character you wouldn't have ranked from this game: None come to mind; got the important bosses and PCs.


Star Ocean 2:

Favorite dueler: Don't really have one. I guess Claude?
Least favorite dueler: Indalecio. Mostly the stupid hype.

Strongest dueler: Indalecio. Yeah, he gets hype, but he's still probably the best (only Berle comes close?)
Weakest dueler: EDIT: Nicolus. Completely forgot he existed! Yeah, WA4 Boss durability with like absolutely NOTHING going for him!

Favorite moment in the DL with this game: Indy losing to Ryu4 was nice!
Least favorite moment in the DL with this game: Rena beating Jean based on Silence hype which I don't think was much deserved? Could be wrong <_<

Favorite dueller: Ryu
Least favorite dueller: Gobi

Strongest dueller: Myria.
Weakest dueller: Mogu. I like him more then I like Gobi, but it's hard to argue with the stats.

Favorite moment in the DL with this game: Probably Ox vs Rei. I feel kind of bad for Ox, but this kind of mismatch often amuses me. Sha,e Ox's durability turned out not to be as good as previously believed, but even if it was, it wouldn't have mattered with that speed difference. As an alternative, Ryu finally winning matches, and three in a row to boot!
Least favorite moment in the DL with this game: Probably Zog beating Geshp. I don't really care about Geshp one way or another, but somehow him losing to Zog just seemed wrong.

Favorite dueller: Gobi.  So pathetic it's awesome.
Least favorite dueller: Sara.  Just...was not a good fight in-game, and generally isn't too interesting.  In-game respected coefficient for her is exceedingly low.  Down to Light, woman thing dragon!

Strongest dueller: Tyr.
Weakest dueller: Mogu or Gobi.  Don't care to comment, they're both pathetically awesome!

Favorite moment in the DL with this game: Tyr losing to Ellen.  Kick fucking ass.
Least favorite moment in the DL with this game: Sara upgrading.  ;_;

A character you'd like to see added to the game: Theoretically, the other generals (Cerl, etc.) would work.  Don't really want to see them in, but they could be.

Don't hate the game in the DL, but do not like the game period.  So it's not exactly a favourite, more of a general apathy than anything.  4/10.

Star Ocean 2:

Favorite dueller: Love Shigeo.  Awesomeness.
Least favorite dueller: Probably Marsilio?  None I really hate, but Marsilio was one I didn't find that great ovverall in-game.

Strongest dueller: Indalecio.
Weakest dueller: Uh...probably Ernest?  Celine?  Leon?  No idea.  The bosses at least have status defense and (my) boss HP.

Favorite moment in the DL with this game: Bowman beating Alma.  Wait...that was RPGP?  Still counts!
Least favorite moment in the DL with this game: Indy constantly getting his ass kicked.  ;_;

A character you'd like to see added to the game: Uh...none really.  It's fine as is.

Like the game more than BoF1, both in-game and DL-wise.  Like all the character and bosses.  Some are fantastically awesome (Shigeo, Bowman).  8/10

Next I'd like to see FE7 and FE8.  Barring that, XS1/2 and TotA.

Favorite dueller: Nina1.  Tricky, interesting, and cute.
Least favorite dueller: Jade.  I don't mind him as a character, but as a dueller he's, well, boring.

Strongest dueller: Myria.  Obvious.
Weakest dueller: Mogu.  Also obvious.

Favorite moment in the DL with this game: Don't know, really.  Nothing stands out that much.
Least favorite moment in the DL with this game: Jade's championship is tied with Ryu1 over Nina1, although on the second one, I can see the OHKO hype.

A character you'd like to see added to the game: None really, the generals aren't worthy, IMO.
A character you wouldn't have ranked from this game: Again none, it was a good ranking in all.

Any other notes/thoughts about the game? Myria critting with one Agni shot to go is bad.  Then having Nina revive Ryu to full, just for him to auto-attack and KILL Myria, thereby screwing me out of the good end my first time through?  Blargh.  Hate this battle system.

SO2: I am not eligible to comment or vote here, sadly, but it's on my to play list.

Favorite dueller: Jade. I'm a fan of SMASH, especially in Godlike.
Least favorite dueller: Bo. Yeah, doesn't have anything of any real note. Not even amusing failure.

Strongest dueller: Myria. This is a no brainer.
Weakest dueller: Mogu. See above.

Favorite moment in the DL with this game: Jade finally getting that championship. Took long enough.
Least favorite moment in the DL with this game: Hmm, I'll second Twil. Ryu constantly facing ID is annoying.

A character you'd like to see added to the game: Maybe Mote? Would be an interesting spoilar type.

Any other notes/thoughts about the game? Not really. Yay for BoF duellers being about as straigtforward as they come without being skillsetless wonders though, I suppose. Generally never find myself wishing someone from this game wasn't in any given season.

Favorite dueller: Opera. I find the Double Downgrade Club to be amusing.
Least favorite dueller: Uh...insert Scrub Wiseman here, really.

Favorite moment in the DL with this game: Nothing really stands out. I'd probably say Claude>Lezard if I knew VP2 Lezard.
Least favorite moment in the DL with this game: Again, nothing really stands out.

Least favorite dueler: Mogu.  Weak, but not as mockable as Gobi.

Favorite moment in the DL with this game: Zog winning the Heavy title
Least favorite moment in the DL with this game: Ryu vs. Nina in season 35.  Another perfectly good relationship torn apart by the demands of the Dueling League.  Tragic.

Favorite moment in the DL with this game: Opera making it to the Light finals in season 39.  It would have been better if she had won the title, but whatever.
Least favorite moment in the DL with this game: Indalecio failing to win the Godlike title even after forty frickin' seasons.

A character you'd like to see added to the game: Nope
A character you wouldn't have ranked from this game: Some of the Wisemen suck, but they don't do any harm.  The ranking is fine.
