MAIN TOURNAMENT
Solar Sect of Mystic Wisdom -Nuclear Fusion- (Subterranean Animism) vs. Battlefield - The First Campaign (Etrian Odyssey 2) - Nuclear Fusion isn't a piece I'm overly fond of in-game, and it kinda fails out of game.  First Campaign gets points based on being one of the few random battle themes I don't really tire of hearing over and over again.

White Mask Funk (Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete) vs. Violent Storm (Baten Kaitos) - Violent Storm is pretty bad.

Dark Messenger (Final Fantasy IX) vs. Water Prison (Ys Origin) - Champ material.

As Time Goes By ~Never Forget Me~ (Wild ARMs 4) vs. The Price of Freedom (FF7: Crisis Core) - A quality piece, even if it struck me as being a bit too repetitive.  The opposition, on the other hand, doesn't have a whole lot going for it.

True (Silent Hill 2) vs. EXEC_over.METHOD_SUBLIMATION/.~lamenza (Ar Tonelico 2) - lamenza is horrid

The Ultimate Energy (Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3) vs. Letter - From the Lost Days (Silent Hill 3) - Neither has any real quality, going with the cheesier one.

Le Tresor Interdit (Radical Dreamers) vs. Gothic Neclord (Suikoden 2) - Tresor Interdit isn't that impressive.  Gothic Neclord, meanwhile, is a personal favorite.

Exceeding Love (Suikoden 3) vs. STIGMATA (Mana Khemia) - Eh, not wowed by either, going with the more active piece.

FAILURE BRACKET
Hurry! Hurry! (Final Fantasy V) vs. Larry Butz: When Something Smells, it's Always Me (Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations) - Man, 10 second long panic loops should be disqualified for this sort of thing.  Larry Butz, meanwhile, does indeed smell.

ANIME
Dona Dona (Revolutionary Girl Utena) vs. Ana (CLANNAD) - Meh.

Bouken Desho Desho? (The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi) vs. Mezami (Mai Hime) - Yeah this is pretty slaughterriffic right here.

White Mask Funk (Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete) vs. Violent Storm (Baten Kaitos): Cid =/= Iwadare fan.
Dark Messenger (Final Fantasy IX) vs. Water Prison (Ys Origin): I like Dark Messenger and all, but it only took a couple seconds to make this decision.
As Time Goes By ~Never Forget Me~ (Wild ARMs 4) vs. The Price of Freedom (FF7: Crisis Core): WA4 track always bored me.
True (Silent Hill 2) vs. EXEC_over.METHOD_SUBLIMATION/.~lamenza (Ar Tonelico 2): This sounds like a final boss track. Accurate? Anyway, Silent Hill tracks do atmosphere right but I like this one more.
The Ultimate Energy (Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3) vs. Letter - From the Lost Days (Silent Hill 3): This, however, is a slaughter.
Le Tresor Interdit (Radical Dreamers) vs. Gothic Neclord (Suikoden 2): Fairly unremarkable SNES music makes this an easy win.
Exceeding Love (Suikoden 3) vs. STIGMATA (Mana Khemia): Toughest decision in the pool, but...I seem to recall Stigmata making it a few rounds in the last tourney? Enough for a tiebreak.

FAILURE BRACKET
Hurry! Hurry! (Final Fantasy V) vs. Larry Butz: When Something Smells, it's Always Me (Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations): Both are bad, but I can at least see the former serving some kind of purpose in-game.

ANIME
Dona Dona (Revolutionary Girl Utena) vs. Ana (CLANNAD): Personal bias. Can't shake the Nanami association.
Bouken Desho Desho? (The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi) vs. Mezami (Mai Hime): I thought it was Mezame? Oh well, it kicks ass no matter how it's spelled.

Price of Freedom - Wow, this is a blowout. Not that I'm the biggest fan of WA vocals out there, but still.
Gothic Neclord - Kicks ass vs. doesn't kick ass.
Exceeding Love - On the other hand I do dig the S3 vocal. It's just so... alive. MK music isn't good enough to compete.

Hurry, Hurry! - PW music is kinda mediocre in general, Butz doesn't stand out as moreso to me (and as Nitori notes, it gets style points for being associated with awesome). The FF5 track is awful, loops too quickly, and plays for too long, so it's much more memorably bad.

Hmm.  Like pool 4, a bit erratic - not sure anything here is godlike, but Violent Storm, Dark Messenger, Water Prison, Exceeding Love, STIGMATA, and Mezame are all excellent.  Figures that of those 6, 4 are in matches against each other.

MAIN TOURNAMENT
Solar Sect of Mystic Wisdom -Nuclear Fusion- (Subterranean Animism) vs. Battlefield - The First Campaign (Etrian Odyssey 2) - Match of meh.
White Mask Funk (Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete) vs. Violent Storm (Baten Kaitos) - Slaughter.  Mystere's music is cute, but Storm is great.
Dark Messenger (Final Fantasy IX) vs. Water Prison (Ys Origin) - Wow, awesome match.  Both are excellent.  I'm....  not sure on this one.  Probably Dark Messenger, but it's really close.
As Time Goes By ~Never Forget Me~ (Wild ARMs 4) vs. The Price of Freedom (FF7: Crisis Core) - The WA4 piece is nothing special.  Not sure about Price of Freedom; it wins this match at least, will have to give it another listen for how good it is in general.
True (Silent Hill 2) vs. EXEC_over.METHOD_SUBLIMATION/.~lamenza (Ar Tonelico 2) - True is actually pretty cool.  Took a bit to grow on me, but I like it a lot.  lamenza...  has some parts I really like, and some background I could seriously do without.
The Ultimate Energy (Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3) vs. Letter - From the Lost Days (Silent Hill 3) - Wrong tourney, Ultimate Energy, you'd do fine in failure.  Slaughtered by Edge of Soul in quality.
Le Tresor Interdit (Radical Dreamers) vs. Gothic Neclord (Suikoden 2) - Purely pointless vote to remind Gothic Neclord it's not all that.
Exceeding Love (Suikoden 3) vs. STIGMATA (Mana Khemia) - Another crowning match of awesome.  Coming back on this one, both are great. (Edit: Sure, STIGMATA.  Though...  checking the old tourney, Stigmata got to round 5 and Love to round 4, so probably a bit overexposed.)

FAILURE BRACKET
Hurry! Hurry! (Final Fantasy V) vs. Larry Butz: When Something Smells, it's Always Me (Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations) - This is really a contest of tournament philosophies.  Hurry Hurry is absolutely horrid and would easily champ along with Hydlide....  but too much of that failure comes from the tiny loop reflecting the badness upon itself over and over and argh kill me now.  I agree with RC - let's leave this contest to the longer pieces that still absolutely fail.  Like Mr. Butz.

ANIME
Dona Dona (Revolutionary Girl Utena) vs. Ana (CLANNAD) - Dona Dona works well in context, but Ana is pretty despite the mild Engrish factor.  Both of these lose to both options below anyway.
Bouken Desho Desho? (The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi) vs. Mezame (Mai Hime) - BDD is amusing enough opening music, but it's not in the same league here.

White Mask Funk (Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete) vs. Violent Storm (Baten Kaitos) - WMF's not bad, but Violent Storm is just... well, champ-quality, in my eyes.
Dark Messenger (Final Fantasy IX) vs. Water Prison (Ys Origin) - Water Prison's not bad, but Dark Messenger is more my style.
As Time Goes By ~Never Forget Me~ (Wild ARMs 4) vs. The Price of Freedom (FF7: Crisis Core) - Both are good, but I don't like the transition of styles in PoF. Edit: Ack, changed my mind. The good parts of PoF are just too good to be beaten by NFM.
True (Silent Hill 2) vs. EXEC_over.METHOD_SUBLIMATION/.~lamenza (Ar Tonelico 2) - Couldn't bring myself to listen to the whole of Lamenza, so it auto-loses for being bad enough to make me want it off immediately.
The Ultimate Energy (Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3) vs. Letter - From the Lost Days (Silent Hill 3) - Okay, what? How is Ultimate Energy losing this? Ultimate Energy is average at worst, whereas Letter makes me want to stab myself. Repeatedly. With rusty corkscrews.
Le Tresor Interdit (Radical Dreamers) vs. Gothic Neclord (Suikoden 2) - Both are good, but LTI is just too pretty to not vote here.
Exceeding Love (Suikoden 3) vs. STIGMATA (Mana Khemia) - Ehh, Stigmata sounds like the singing/music would each be good on their own, but... not together. Exceeding Love, alternatively, is just quite good.

(Final Fantasy V) vs. Larry Butz: When Something Smells, it's Always Me (Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations) - OK, I've heard worse songs than Hurry - it's repetitive, but not amazingly bad repetitive. However, Larry's... I want this song! I love this song! Easily one of the best PW songs there is! (Not much competition, outside of Steel Samurai, but... Oh well.)

Dona Dona (Revolutionary Girl Utena) vs. Ana (CLANNAD) - Man, I'm slowly plotting my own death after listening to these songs. >_>  Why couldn't these two matches have been split? Ah, well. Ana is prettier (which isn't saying much, but is still enough to let it win.)
Bouken Desho Desho? (The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi) vs. Mezame (Mai Hime) - Sigh. A tough one - I like BDD a lot, but Mezame's good, except for the singing, which I just find annoying. The music itself is very MegaTen-esque... Anyway, think I'll have to settle on... yeah, Mezame.

- Violent Storm ripped that intro from FF6 Decisive Battle.  Which is a better song.

Dark Messenger (Final Fantasy IX) vs. Water Prison (Ys Origin)
- Not a huge fan of Dark Messenger, though it's decent.  Water Prison started out slightly above mediocre and then got better.  Not sure how I feel on it just yet, but good enough to take this at least.  Nice to see some of the non "RAR RAWK" Ys tracks in though.

As Time Goes By ~Never Forget Me~ (Wild ARMs 4) vs. The Price of Freedom (FF7: Crisis Core)
- *punches Hatbot in the face*  Naruke does the jazz style I like, but The Price of Freedom is awesome as well.  Mrf.  Going with personal bias again, though won't be too upset if The Price of Freedom wins.

- EXEC_over.METHOD_SUBLIMATION/.~lamenza is indeed a final battle track.  True sounds like a good atmosphere track, which is cool, but I'm a fan of lamenza.

- Meh.

White Mask Funk (Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete) vs. Violent Storm (Baten Kaitos) - Okay, good. Got some Baten Kaitos music to help me recover from the first match.
Dark Messenger (Final Fantasy IX) vs. Water Prison (Ys Origin) - Ooooh, pretty. *downloads*
As Time Goes By ~Never Forget Me~ (Wild ARMs 4) vs. The Price of Freedom (FF7: Crisis Core)

True (Silent Hill 2) vs. EXEC_over.METHOD_SUBLIMATION/.~lamenza (Ar Tonelico 2) - Yeesh. Sounds like one of the background singers in EXEC is being strangled. That track is strange enough that it might grow on me if I listen to it enough, but for now...I'd rather not.
The Ultimate Energy (Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3) vs. Letter - From the Lost Days (Silent Hill 3) - Annoying lyrics I understand vs. annoying lyrics I don't understand. Oh boy. What a lovely choice.
Le Tresor Interdit (Radical Dreamers) vs. Gothic Neclord (Suikoden 2)
Exceeding Love (Suikoden 3) vs. STIGMATA (Mana Khemia) - Loves me some STIGMATA. Definitely one of my favorites.

The Ultimate Energy (Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3) vs. Letter - From the Lost Days (Silent Hill 3)- Someone needs to be shot for the ultimate energy. It's not even good cheese. Letters is pretty decent.
Le Tresor Interdit (Radical Dreamers) vs. Gothic Neclord (Suikoden 2)- Castlevania ripoff carries the day.
Exceeding Love (Suikoden 3) vs. STIGMATA (Mana Khemia)- Good match has others have commented.

As Time Goes By ~Never Forget Me~ (Wild ARMs 4) vs. The Price of Freedom (FF7: Crisis Core)- As Time Goes On is stronger than I remembered (haven't listened to it in ages... and I'm not sure I ever listened to the Asoh), but WA4 is still the weakest WA vocally.  Price of Freedom meanwhile is godlike.
True (Silent Hill 2) vs. EXEC_over.METHOD_SUBLIMATION/.~lamenza (Ar Tonelico 2)- Maybe I found the wrong variation of the At track (had to youtube), but very not impressive.  True is neat.
The Ultimate Energy (Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3) vs. Letter - From the Lost Days (Silent Hill 3)
Le Tresor Interdit (Radical Dreamers) vs. Gothic Neclord (Suikoden 2)- Le Tresor Interdit is interesting, but I dunno.  Lacks something.
Exceeding Love (Suikoden 3) vs. STIGMATA (Mana Khemia)- Grrr.  I've been damn near listening to chained STIGMATA for months now (pretty much ever since playing Mana Khemia) so it's playing me better now, even though listening to Exceeding Love really made me want to play Suikoden III.

White Mask Funk (Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete) vs. Violent Storm (Baten Kaitos) - Violent storm is a muddled mess of sounds.
Dark Messenger (Final Fantasy IX) vs. Water Prison (Ys Origin) - Didn't even have to listen to more than 10 seconds to decide this, but did anyway!
As Time Goes By ~Never Forget Me~ (Wild ARMs 4) vs. The Price of Freedom (FF7: Crisis Core)- This was probably the hardest choice so far in the tournament. I associate the WA4 song with the ending with Raquel, so it has total nostalgia factor for me. Price of Freedom was good, but... doesn't go anywhere. I get that it's probably looping in game, but... it just doesn't peak. It builds very nicely but ends up just being half a track.
True (Silent Hill 2) vs. EXEC_over.METHOD_SUBLIMATION/.~lamenza (Ar Tonelico 2) - Atmosphere > Ear rape
The Ultimate Energy (Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3) vs. Letter - From the Lost Days (Silent Hill 3) - Loved the cheese, but the vocals in the second are very good.
Le Tresor Interdit (Radical Dreamers) vs. Gothic Neclord (Suikoden 2) - Blame me. I listened to Gothic Neclord so much back in the day I'm sick of it.
Exceeding Love (Suikoden 3) vs. STIGMATA (Mana Khemia) - My interest was piqued when Stigmata picked up, but was quickly lost.

It might be the GBA version being used.  Though I'm not sure that was arranged for the DS game anyways.

The Ultimate Energy (Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3) vs. Letter - From the Lost Days (Silent Hill 3) Letter - From the Lost Days is a really nice song, and Ultimate Energy isn't one of Kageyama's better efforts.
Le Tresor Interdit (Radical Dreamers) vs. Gothic Neclord (Suikoden 2) - Neclord isn't one of my favorites, and the fact that Le Tresor Interdit is a good song makes my decision easier.
Exceeding Love (Suikoden 3) vs. STIGMATA (Mana Khemia) - Why! dammit, I didn't want these to go up against each other, I'll go with STIGMATA though, that was one hell of a good battle music.

White Mask Funk (Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete) vs. Violent Storm (Baten Kaitos)- Couldn't get Violent Storm to lead...doesn't matter.
Dark Messenger (Final Fantasy IX) vs. Water Prison (Ys Origin)- Ys music completely makes me want to play the game.
As Time Goes By ~Never Forget Me~ (Wild ARMs 4) vs. The Price of Freedom (FF7: Crisis Core)- Only needed the first song to load to decide this one!
Le Tresor Interdit (Radical Dreamers) vs. Gothic Neclord (Suikoden 2)- Am I the only one who finds Gothic Neclord's quality just to kill the song? The remixes of it are great though.
Exceeding Love (Suikoden 3) vs. STIGMATA (Mana Khemia)- Exceeding Love is beautiful and mysterious. Mana Khemia has little annoying girls singing.
