Simple question, no? I've been thinking for awhile and starting to wonder about this basic question. It's rather telling how happy a person thinks they are, especially when it doesn't match up with their behavior. Anyway, the poll option is above and feel free to post as well. This is just an unscientific, casual survey of the DL. It's only purpose is to sate my curiosity.

On a 1-10 scale of happiness I am probably a 9.5. Life is pretty darn good.

I am happy, life is good. There is so much to be pissed off about these days. I get to be happy AND pissed off at the same time. These are the golden years.

Quite good, went with the second highest option. There is room for improvement, but nothing beyond my own control.

When I try to look at my life objectively, I tend to get depressed. When I just let it be, I end up keeping an oddly positive outlook.

Eehh... Japan is lonely and strange, it's easy to get depressed and homesick at times. I miss my close friends and my new Japanese ones are cool, but not really close in the same way that someone who speaks English natively and shares the same cultural outlook can be...

So, I'm not suicidal and constantly depressed or anything - I just have unfortunate bouts of emo from time to time when the stress of a new culture grates on me just a little too much. It's long-term culture shock, I suppose. When good, fun things happen, it's a rarity - but I always really enjoy those moments to their fullest, so I can't feel justified with the lowest option. Suggestion: never move to Japan alone. >_<;;

Eeeeeemoooooo. My job sucks, I have no friends closer than 50 miles from my home, and good luck finding a new job in newspapers with this economy and industry crash. Not to mention that yesterday in particular was the worst day I've had in a long, long time, so awesome timing for the poll!

Despite my crazy diagnosis/situation, I've always managed to keep myself fairly happy. There's been an underlying "must keep mind off of certain subjects" sure but....

My life is great. Well, it's good. I'm not starving, I have a job at least until the end of the year, I'm going to graduate no matter what, I have some awesome friends, I'm on good terms with my parents, I'm making rent, I went to Europe recently, etc. etc. etc. There are a few anxieties and lamentations but overall my life is pretty sweet.

That said, no matter how much I tell myself to focus on the good things, to stop being whiny and all, I'm never really happy. Hell, telling myself to stop being whiny just makes it worse, since it turns self-pity into self loathing which turns back to more self pity.

I could go on a rant about this but the pretentiousness of arguing over whether anyone is ever happy probably doesn't appeal to everyone as much as it does to me. I'll cut it short and say, I'm unhappy but I don't really have cause to be. Really starting to think it might be a clinical thing. Eh.

Working out any of my social/sexual/romantic/friendship/career/hobby/anxiety frustrations.... We'll say ANY TWO of that list, would probably jump me all the way up to one of the top two.

I tend to enjoy my life, it's just...............

Voted for the second option, because I'm quite happy but tend to eschew extremes.

I could really use a job (eff this job market in the A), but aside from that? I'm working on a play with folks I like a lot, am probably auditioning soon for something else that would go up this summer, I just got some great head shots taken cheaply by a friend, I'm on good terms with my ex-girlfriend and still chat with her as a friend fairly often, I'm cooking dinner for a pretty girl tonight in my apartment, and I'm getting about $1500 in refunds on my tax returns.

The things, they are pretty good.

Voted for Neutral. I'm pretty much in a very "whatever" state in my life, partially cause while life isn't bad...there's a lot of things I'd like better, so yeah, I think neutral fits for that

This works for me, too. I've been thinking a lot more lately, and hence have been more annoyed lately. Generally speaking, I'm pretty cynical but optimistic - I always think the worst of things, but I always think things are gonna get better.
I voted "Slightly unhappy" on the basis that, while I tend to ignore problems sometimes and not others (which, to me, would be neutral), my life has become a lot worse from how it used to be in a number of ways - relationship, education, friendships, looks, etc. - and so I'm looking at things as they are as negative solely through comparison.

Happy. Even when I'm not happy about something in particular, I'm almost always happy about life in general. Honestly, it's not even that things are going... great. I mean, I don't have a job, but I'm just about done getting back into school, and I'm in good health and getting back into shape, my 'new family' as such is pretty cool. The only thing keeping me from the first option is the lack of any friends in the area, really.

Neutral- Quite frankly my mood swings around from moderately happy to depressed with shocking regularity. Usually how I"m feeling is directly related to what is happening at work. Good, productive week = happy Pyro. Unproductive = sad Pyro. Kind of tending towards negative lately but I'm all right.

I'm still looking forward to the Armageddon.

Voted slightly happy. I'm in a dead-end job, but I'm good at it and it's easy. I live in a small home with two other people who like to insult me at every opportunity and another who's asleep half the time I'm home, but I don't pay much rent. I haven't been outside my home for anything other than family get-togethers or work in over four months, but other people suck anyway. Also, I have bunny ears, yay!

I'll try not to sound bitchy if I can help it.

I'll be honest here, it seems that I'm pretty unhappy, but there are numerous times when I am actually quite satisfied and happy, depends usually what I did the day, like hanging out with friends/relatives/whatever and socializing. The afternoon is when I am most grumpy, cranky, annoying, etc. for some reason, maybe because it's the afternoon that it's hottest, I suppose. That and if I spend too much time brooding about things I end up shifting over to self-analysis and that depresses me more than enlightens me. I don't really have much of an excuse to bitch 'n moan, after all. I'm just very moody. Honest. So, I voted for being Neutral.

Locked voting, since we've had a ton of votes and the poll has ran it's course. (I can unlock it if anyone cares, really.)

I'm pleasantly surprised to find out that the majority of the DL considers themselves happy I was expecting more emo on the whole, and while the most emo option got a lot of votes, it never really competed with happiness. Are any of you surprised? I voted for slightly happy, by the way.

Not totally surprised... I've always gotten the impression that society isn't as angsty as it's made out to be by a lot of people.

Then again, optimist, voted happy, etc.
