Watched the 3 Phoenix movies: space, Yamato, and hou-oh chapters (ovas? whatever.)

They were...good.  I suspect in the right mood I'd say they were great.  They each hover somewhere between being profound, humbling statements of the foolishness of mankind, the inability to concentrate on what is important...and being tragic stories of people who bad things happen to because they are terminally stupid.  Space was the best of the lot, a taut murder mystery in deep space that plays out with all the suspects adrift in escape pods.  Yamato's plot unfolded nicely, direct but not simple.  Hou-oh is the most critically acclaimed, but I can't say I cared much for it.  Stupid people are stupid.

Bullwinkle: A-bomb is what some people call our show!
Rocky: I don't think that's very funny...
Bullwinkle: Neither do they, apparently!

Housemate picked up Daphne in the Brilliant Blue - first 4 chapters (so, 16 episodes) for £2. Watched the first 8, and I'm honestly surprised. Seeing the cover/reading the summary, I was expecting something along the lines of Battle Vixens, but it's actually not all that bad.
...Not to say it's particularly good, but, hey, I wasn't expecting anything to begin with.

Daphne is surprisingly un-terrible. The secret is that they understand the key to good comedy: Hatred. The various Nereids don't have comical misunderstandings, they just flat-out want to shoot each other, and you get way better jokes that way.

Index- I know the whole Yuriko theory is going to get denied sooner or later, just I never expected to occur here. Oh, good bye Yuriko, we'll remember you.

Suzushina Yuriko, aka, the female Accelerator. It was invented by the author himself, the possibility that Accelerator might really be a girl.
http://img65.imageshack.us/img65/4484/272kg0.jpg
They go so far to even come up a official sketch of it, and there is not direct evidence in the novel that can prove Accelerator is NOT a girl, so the possibility of Yuriko lingers around.... until ep.6 finally slam it down.

Tears to Tiara:

So after I told someone I enjoyed generic fantasy anime (ala Lodoss War) someone suggested this to me. So I watched it. I can't say it doesn't have the checkmarks for the genres. Staff chick female lead with special power? Check. Hotheaded male lead? Check. Rage against the heavens plot? Check. Jerkarse Demon Lord? Check. Legendary magic sword? Check.

I think it was derived from some game, but I've never seen anything about it. The show hits all the bases of the genre, while managing relatively competent fight scenes here and there, a plot that hit all of it's bases and built characters, and music that was decent. I can't say it is fantastic by any means, but at least it was moderately entertaining. Very... Generic.

Transformers G1: Season 3 -

Season remained mediocre throughout.

Final serial seemed to have a jump in quality, but this may have been coloured by my memories of it.

Transformers G1: Rebirth -

Three episodes don't make a season regardless of what the DVD says.

Have to say Rebirth is fairly atrocious. Introduces far too many characters for the timeframe, including a new villainous race because that worked out so well with the Quintessons, and a new set of alien allies. But the main problem is the Headmasters and Targetmasters.

So the Autobots and new alien allies are having trouble fighting the robots of the new villains. The Autobots have enough power to deal with them, but don't know how to go about it, while the aliens know how to deal with them but don't have the power to do anything about it. This leads, by a route I can't quite remember, to the most brilliant plan of all time! A bunch of the new Autobots and Arcee have their heads removed and converted into exosuits which can transform back into the head, which the aliens (and Daniel, for health reasons) will wear, with the goal of the aliens being able to instruct them from inside their heads. YES

So the Decepticons show back up (they had beaten up on the Autobots previously, causing Daniel's health problems and such) and are shocked to see the Headmasters come off the Autobots in question and join in the fighting! As a set of headless Autobots + a bunch of human-sized exosuits are clearly twice the numbers of the set of regular Autobots, they now beat the Decepticons handily, and go on to trash some of the villain's robots as well. This causes the villains to kidnap the Decepticons and demand that they offer up their heads so that some of their crew can work in the same way. The old guard forces the new Decepticons into this, but refuse to take part themselves, clearly being less frothingly insane than the Autobots. As a compromise, the weapons of the old guard are altered in a similar manner, and become 'Targetmasters'.

Wait, did I say the old guard of the Decepticons were less insane than the Autobots? Clearly I forgot how they went into battle and threw their weapons at the Autobots as clearly human-sized exosuits are more powerful than lousy weapons

and the Autobots are so impressed with this that a bunch of their old guard has the same done for their weapons, if I remember correctly

The JP Headmasters/etc serieses are available, and as I understand it they throw out Rebirth and start over from the end of Season 3, but as I understand things the Headmasters in it are the same concept as the Headmasters in Rebirth and consequently fail at life. I will consequently not be going directly on to them.

Overall:
Season 1 is decent
Season 2 is decent if you don't mind dumb plots
Scramble City is bad
Movie is decent
Season 3 is passable, potentially decent if you're a big fan of the characters from the movie
Rebirth is bad

Gundam 00S2 V2/V3 -

Bad Times continue for Saji, with some especially bad times waiting in store for him that he has not considered.

00 Raiser, why the heck are you bringing in pseudo-newtype-slash-SEED-ghost-lamery into the show quantum brainwaves were bad enough but bearable

N still isn't dead, despite the show teasing me with the possibility. Curse them all.

Whoever was in charge of naming particularly innovative people in the show needs to be awarded the Shot Weapon Memorial Medallion. And then shot to stop it from happening again.

Show remains good so far, although I feel V3 was weaker than V2 on the whole. My view may be unfairly coloured due to the raisertype segment, as there were certainly a number of good parts in V3, such as Saji managing to realise that he is about to do something stupid again before he does it, and backstory for the forecasters.

Touma's convo being cut is inconsequential, honestly. I've read it. Who cares. They might move it. The episode was fucking awesome for many reasons. Teleport fight. Accelerator WTFpwning. Seriously. Easily the best episode yet, possibly out of both seasons. Only 10 seconds or so of bad Index-based humor mucking it up.

This also marks the second time in 3 episodes or so where out of context, it just looks like a guy beating up on a helpless chick.

I don't know, I just fell like nuking JC even more. When the novel has some decent stuff, they have the tendency of cutting it out. *recalls Kaori vs. Gabriel in season 1 to be the worst offense.
Yet, in this episode, for whatever reason, they toss in this super human Touma that is nowhere to be found in the original just to make the whole look cool.

.....I mean, the fuck? JC, are you doing these on purpose?

bawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Seriously. You're missing the forest for the trees on this one. The episode was awesome and the conversation between Touma and Kuroko sucked. It was trite and pointless. Who gives a shit about it being gone? Yeah, they cut and add stuff and it can affect the quality, but you're really just flat wrong on this one.

Gender Equality, bitches.

(I thought the Superhuman Touma thing was stupid, but watching it a second time you can see Mikoto lining up debris for him to use. It was just over dramatized probably).

TWGOK has been consistently enjoyable, and I ended up liking the taser-wielding idol more than I thought I would. Now to just go and catch up on Katanagatari.

Edit: Caught up on Katanagatari. That is some serious shit->fan cliffhanger ending. Looking forward to the final episode. Between this and Bakemonogatari, I can see why this author is popular. Some of the dialogue was a little weird (to say the least), but the character stuff and moments like the one with Pengin are great.

Just to let you know, he gets praise for Bakemonogatari for reasons that aren't exactly similar than what is on your mind.

Still better to keep it than not. Even insisting on keeping the superhuman Touma, there are other useless things to cut. Say, less SISTER fan service?
Seriously, I think I am already being nice enough to JC in not flaming them for completely not explaining why Last Order didn't lose her memory in the previous episode. And now what, they think they can get around it just by making things look cool? Well, we might buy that excuse if say, they didn't mass up like 40% of the fight scene until this point.

Oh wait, I am actually the person who declared that if JC can do the whole Gabriel fight justice, I am willing to ignore whatever changes that JC is going to make. But oops, apparently JC fails too much to even get that right.
