With my internet down for the last couple days and my comp sidelined for the next few days, been catching up on disc-based stuff I need to watch. Not being in the mood for comedic fare, I went with Texhnolyze. Ended up finishing it.
Goddamn I do not know what to say about it. The first episode was an absolute mess with only three lines of dialogue and less coherant than a Meeple rant. It built itself out of that, but man, bad start. However... it's distinctly the slow, plodding, navel-gazing type show I love and I'm glad I stuck with it. Despite being a mess at times and having more than a few holes, I was enthralled by it. The characters and the atmosphere in particular. The story is damn near impenetrable, but the plotting was decent despite occasional holes. Despite the problems with the end, each character that left hurt, and I found myself incredibly involved and saddened by it (in a good way) despite my misgivings about the show. Incredibly depressing though. In the end I still don't exactly know what to think about it. I might sour on it over time, I might not, but damn was it one hell of a ride. Not a masterpiece by any means, heavy-handed and problematic, but... goddamn enjoyable if you're in to that type of show. 9/10, I guess?
Next up Sky Crawlers and Mahoromatic, probably, as well as regualr ol' movies.
