Some people have no appreciation for fine art.

Nothing involving Gene Simmons could qualify as fine art; putting those two in the same sentence is offensive even in the presence of heavy sarcasm.

Eureka 7- Finally, after two years of slowly picking up each DVD, I finished it. And... argh. Great, awesome show, but... the writers need to write a book on how to blow your entire show in the last five minutes. For once, it's not even the epilogue thats the problem, it's the actual ending. It doesn't really resolve much, and leaves way too many things open-ended, even for an anime. The series was very well constructed before then, but I guess it proved to be a house of cards that came crashing down. I was worrying that they'd botch the ending since volume 11 treaded water, so to speak, but all of volume 12 and especially the first 20 minutes of the last episode were just amazing and it just... ran out of time. Even the ending they had might have worked if they'd had time to show the aftermath, but they just ended it there. You can't really have a series that deals with what it does without showing the results. Really, really disappointed, but still a show worth watching.

Samurai Champloo - Cause I am like trendy and watch new things.  Anyway, Kenshin with better art and better running gags and I guess better cliches.  Also people die immediately after becoming friends.
NO MORE POKEMON - Meeplelard.

Watched the first four episodes of two different shows over the weekend.

Trinity Blood: Is shamelessly the bastard child of Hellsing and Trigun. Absolutely worthless in every artistic sense, but still fun. Tres is pretty awesome.

Kino's Journey: Now this is just good. An androgynous nomad and his/her talking motorcycle wander from country to country in a Miyazaki-esque SF world. Each episode is more or less self-contained (as far as I've seen), with some really solid themes to base its stories around. It's surprisingly violent sometimes, too. Great dub.

I know that (episode 4 is the flashback), I was trying not to give it away to other people.

Meh 4 episodes in spoilers isn't huge.  It isn't like FF5 spoilers where Faris has a penis and Butz is actually a woman.

Yay Kino! It doesn't help they mangled the novels when translating them. Ah, well.

Spice and Wolf: Cute. Not entirely sure why I started watching this, but eh.

And an awesomely weird juxtaposition of samurai and modern hip hop. The episode where they set that field on fire and everyone trips balls is great.

The damn shame is that Blade of the Immortal (currently airing as an anime, manga started in 1994) really paved the way for shows like Champloo that put samurai and modern culture together, but it's not gonna get any of the credit because, y'know, it's curently airing.

So there was talk of a Jump series called Double Arts ending prematurely that was supposedly decent, so I checked it out. Sad I did, cause it is actually pretty good. Quirky, enjoyable story with good characters. <3 Sui. Sad it'll end early.

I receive no news on that. Even for a short term series, ending now seems a bit to early.... or has Jump sink even further into stupidity?

Samurai Champloo - Alright this is holding up suprisingly well so far, I was half expecting it to get a bit tired by now.  12 episodes down and it is still decent.  Specifically Beatbox Bandits was cool.  Hendrix is better than you, so writing an episode in honour of him is pimp.  Gamblers and Gallantry gets plusses for finishing differently than the series leads you to expect and yet still being fairly cliche.  Still good stuff.  Jin could still turn out to be a nice subversion.

In honor of Double Arts finishing, my top 5 things I liked about it's short, short time.

1. Sui's hair. Awesome, pretty, and it's amusing how she emotes with it.
2. Elraine's hair. Bed head for the win.
3. Double Arts fighting style concept. Woulda been awesome to see it play out. Coulda been the second coming of LOVE LOVE TENKYOKEN.
4. Dance lessons. Every anime/manga needs dancing scenes.
5. Sui (see girl in avatar). Sui was awesome. I want more Sui. <3 ;-;

Individual episodes are hit or miss, but the second half is every bit as good as the first half.

That is pretty much what you would expect of something with so many shades of Cowboy Bebop in it.

YES! They finally started subbing Allison and Lillia again. Happy days...

Meanwhile, I managed to procure a gem of a boxset. Maison Ikkoku Box 8. Less than a thousand were made. I hear in the neighborhood of 500. Not even CPM's worst seller had that low of a print run.
