Kurokami V2 -
Continuing where we left off, where the fact that the main character was supposed to be part of the unlucky/unspecial people was being completely ignored by having him be lucky and special, Keita continues to be lucky and special in this half of the series. Most of all when he has his root presented to him and consequently dies as per the rules of the doppleliner system, but comes back to life due to a technicality in the pact system which somehow no-one knows about despite there being numerous pacts between people who are closer than Keita and Kuro are. To be fair, most of the pacts we see are with Roots, but the other major one we know of which isn't is certainly a closer relationship. To say nothing of the fact that given that the death penalty is apparently applied by the root uncontrollably draining out the sub's Terra, for all that that doesn't even begin to match how we saw the rest of the sub deaths work, why isn't Root!Keita still draining the Terra which Kuro is providing to Keita?
I like how there are supposed to be two Subs for every Root, but all the Master Root creation we see has only the one Sub being killed off. Unless the doppleliner system causes both Subs to die when even only one of them encounters the Root, which isn't something that was ever suggested, there are a lot of Subs being killed off-camera or the show is just ignoring its own rules.
To no-one's surprise, Reishin comes back. I didn't expect the show to try to act like he had good intentions all along. It really doesn't excuse anything that had been done beforehand, and I don't see it making any sense that the person you would expect should have been informed about this wasn't. Unless, of course, informing them would have woken the third Masagami early, but this isn't something the show indicates and I should not try to come up with excuses for it. Worse is that Akane doesn't say anything either and just looks to be brainwashed or evil.
Not a fan of Nam.
The ending is annoying with Keita somehow managing to take the doppleliner system with him and there being no reason that he should be able to do something like that. Oh Keita you are certainly the least special character of all time.
The DVD runs directly into the special episode after the ending and it is somewhat annoying due to slight mood whiplash. Bit of poor form there.
Daitarn 3 -
Man.
I expected more along the lines of James Bond x Tekkaman Blade x First Half GaoGaiGar. It is a mere shadow of that.
After the first episode, most of the early episodes are flat and uninspiring. Fortunately, it does improve on average around halfway through, but still dips occassionally afterwards.
I was certainly not expecting Don Zauser to have been dead all along, aside from being revived in the final episode. Vaguely nice twist. That tricksy Koros.
Plot twist in the last episode, that the Meganoids were just trying to collect energy so they could leave the solar system and settle somewhere away from humans, runs considerably counter to the events of the series and I don't really know what they were thinking. It can't really be a fake out since it's from Koros talking to Don Zauser. Bizarre. And not brought up when they fight Banjo.
MSG Char's Counterattack -
It was okay? Some of the dialogue was atrocious, it had anti-adult themes, people had some annoying motivations, newtype lamery, Hathaway, and Quess all existed, and the ending was horrible. On the other hand was reasonably pretty.
MSG F91 -
Fairly badly disjointed at points. A number of times it skips back and forth between colonies without explicitly calling it out until you recognise that it must have happened at some point.
Federation and CB are all horrible people. The show seems to try to render CB in the best light but I think this was a bad attempt at a fakeout.
Shockingly, doesn't have all that much in the way of newtype lamery! But there is still some. Sigh.
Anti-adult themes again. Getting somewhat sick of those.
The bugs were not as gruesome as I had expected, no worse than the violence I had been seeing in Daitarn. Not sure where I got the idea that they were supposed to be nightmarish.
Reasonably pretty.
