Tylor's awesome, yeah. OVAs are good too. Not as good, but there's a long way between that and "bad."

Picked up Fullmetal Alchemist in the DDD sale, finished the first boxset. It's good fun. I like the cast, the dub, the world-building, and, with a few exceptions, the story. Oddly for a show like this, the action's the weak link - there just isn't the budget to do what they seem to want with the alchemy tricks. Shame, but it's not killing the show anytime soon.

Haibane Renmei, borrowed from a friend. A real treasure. The story and setting are really pretty simple, but that's where a lot of the beauty lies; it tells the story that the writer wanted to tell, with nothing frivolous that gets in the way of it. He reveals very little about what's really happening in the world, leaving behind a basic but emotional story of forgiveness of oneself and others, with lots of the details - and the right details - left up to the viewer to interpret.

Oh, and a happy ending to appease the sap that I am.

I'd suggest it to people, but I'm not quite sure what kind of people to suggest it to.

Haibane Renmei, borrowed from a friend. A real treasure. VITAL FMA UPDATE: Armstrong is freaking awesome.

Gundam Wing: rewatched this.  first half is good.  second half...not so much.  Dorothy exemplifies everything wrong with the show after that.  Endless Waltz was an excellent conclusion, taking the theme of absolute pacifism that so much of the show revolves around and making it work.  Don't get the Wing Zero hype, though.  it looks silly.  The other suits in Endless Waltz are good, though.

Speed Grapher:  finished this.  good show, just not fully cooked.  ending was ok, but the show stumbled in the middle.

Heat Guy J: ok, this is NOT a good show, but I enjoy it anyway.  It doesn't make sense, it's weirdly overdramatic, but Daisuke and J are both tons of fun.  Daisuke in particular.  He's the reverse of an angsty hero.  Has a great confident and carefree attitude that says, "there's a lot I've been through, but it doesn't get to me.  really."

Slayers Revolution - just saw the first ep of this, and I can hardly describe how happy it makes me.  the lag in time since Slayers Try doesn't seem to have affected the writing one bit, which is definitely a good sign.  I'm not gonna handicap how good it'll be compared to the other Slayers seasons, NEXT in particular is a pretty tall order to beat or match, but it's certainly shaping up to be in the conversation.

Still something of a virgin to modern and obscure anime, but I think my forum handle speaks for itself... was a fan of Evangelion for years, but money sort of neutered any ability to see it with the original voice actors and English subtitling. Then I found VeohTV, and we made sweet, sweet Eva love. I keep hearing good things about this "Geass" thing and Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Need to watch those.

Legend of Galactic Heroes is a good older series.  Basically it's Germany versus Britain in space, with spaceship battles set to classical music.

I finally got around to watching Paprika (cause if I hadn't by the time I saw Sopko again I think I would be dead before I got to kill the other people that deserve it).  This was pure awesome.

So wait, is Code Geass actually meant to be worth more than some kind of bizarre homage to the ending of Pink Flamingos?  Cause I was of the impression that it was the ultimate in lose and all signs point to it (manufactured phenomenon, this factor being pretty much acknowledged in all the propaganda) and yet there seems to be people on the internet honestly praising it for being any good instead of just a jumbled pile of unoriginal crap.
