Well Soppy. Manga and anime don't always have to end up the same way. Maybe They'll do something more interesting (i.e. involving more boxcutters).

Michiko to Hachin- Pyro liked it. I'll give it a shot.

Vwhat is dis? Pyro has never heard of this show, let alone said he liked it...

It was a visual novel, but you'd still think that after all this time he'd watch it with it, right? Guess not.

And must have been someone else. Maybe Cid?

Fuck you, thats for me to decide. A constructive way to warn people is to say "The end sucks". Not spoil the damn end for them. I'm still going to watch it. Now I just know the damn end.

Sounds like the only thing I'll be watching this season is TotA. Nothing else sounds particularly grabbing. TotA doesn't sound particularly grabbing as an anime either... but it's brand loyalty at this point (which is what I imagine Namco is counting on to make even a moderate success, anyway).

@CapK: I've read some of the English volumes waaaaay back when they first came out in America and I thought Chamo (Kamo) was decently funny in the earlier issues, too. Like when he's introduced and all the girls start crowding/petting/tickling him because he's an adorable little ermine and his response is: 'Ah, they've already been charmed by my manliness' (or something to that effect). I also liked his 4th-wall-breaking-like references to RPGs. I find him funny.

Not -everything- about him is funny mind you... it's kind of creepy when he's trying to coerce the girls into kissing Negi for the Pactio cards... like he's directing child porn or something... (not really that much of a metaphor now that I think about it...)

And yes, I've read past where the American release is at this point. It suddenly got really interesting once they finished their DBZ/Naruto-style tournament. Part of it is that they've made Paru and Chiisame main cast members now. With them around to point out ridiculous plot holes or inappropriate reactions/motivations, the series feels like it's lampshading itself every other page. It actually makes the series almost funny, but also allows the serious parts to stand out. I'm kind of impressed.

But yeah, I already know that my tastes are wildly different from everyone's... >.>;;

TotA- Surprisingly decent, and Karma sounds better too.

To Aru Majitsu no Index- Again, decent so far, just hope the starting arc can be done with in the next episode. Never liked the start much. Oh... WTF at Accelerator's VA, Accelerator's sex is unknown yet, they picked a VA that sounds very much male? And this is when the novel throwing out hints that Accelerator's chance of being a girl is pretty high?

TotA would be worth watching if they had music roughly as alright as the starting movie and as much over the top choreography as the opening.  It wouldn't be good, but it would be roughly the same as watching Advent Children.

Hm, where to begin...

Just finished watching Macross 7.
In general, the show is kinda like Daimos, although they at least mix it up a bit. The entire middle of the show is HUR HUR BASARA IS SINGING TO THE ENEMIES WITH NO REAL EFFECT changed up later on to HUR HUR BASARA IS SINGING TO SIVIL WITH NO REAL EFFECT and only gets back to somewhat interesting things nearish the end.

I swear, they play Planet Dance and Assault Love Heart more times combined than there are episodes. In fact, I'd go as far as saying that they're almost played as many times as they're required in any given map in SRWD. Either get some different music or go without it for a while instead of shoving it down our throats -_-

The whole thing with Gamlin/Mylene near the end is garbage also. OH GAMLIN I HAVE BEEN AMBIVALENT TO BASARA FOR HALF THE SERIES BUT I SUDDENLY REALISE THAT I LIKE HIM MORE THAN YOU NOW THAT HE IS PHYSICALLY UNABLE TO ANNOY ME. If that was the direction they wanted to go in, they should have left Gamlin killed off. In fact they should have left him killed off anyway because him surviving that was stupid.

Hmm. Gabil is clearly the best protodeviln, although this was of course a foregone conclusion. Best human is obviously Flower Girl, followed up by Gamlin.

I think... the best moment in the show would have to be... when Basara shoots the huge speaker that I forget the name of through Ivan!Gepelnitch's spaceship's bridge. Hehehe.

At least the show has an ending! Unlike

Dangaioh

oh dangaioh

how can it be possible the likes of this is in reality such a lame show (speaking of which I need to watch that dubbed version sometime, it is presumably greatly superior to the subs I watched)

spoilers: they lose and end up cryogenically frozen/asleep or dead it is not made especially clear. then gil berg gets a promotion.

NEXT

Change Tru Getta ._.

is also ._.

a show with a non-ending ._.

It's good in the middle where stuff is happening! But then stuff stops happening again. And unexplained events occur. A lot.

Also, the Tower gets destroyed. What were they thinking.

In any case, in summary: Good in the middle where Invaders are being exploded and terminater-twoing and suchforth, and most scenes with Corwin/Stenger, and scenes with lots of diverse scrubby robots. Also whenever the Tower is doing anything interesting which is far too little of the time.
Lame most of the rest of the time. Especially the non-ending.

NEXT

Nadesico also suffers from having a non-ending why god WHY AM I INFLICTED WITH SHOWS WITH NON-ENDINGS

Nadesico starts off AWESOME. Good times. It falls to pieces near then end. Tsk. How indeed can you wrap up all the loose plotlines within two episodes? BY NOT DOING IT O HO HO not to mention introducing new ones that don't get completed. Given what I know of PoD from SRW I don't expect ANY of these to get completed in that either.

It's easily the best out of these four shows, but still... disappointing.

Someone recommended Ga-Rei Zero to me, so I watched it.

Reaction?

"Blah blah blah generic secret organization fighting generic secret monster menace blah blah Gendo Ikari wannabe blah blah special mission execution with angsty main and OFLI blah blah victory the good guy's celebrate..." "..." "Oh. I see what you did there."

Then episode 3 rolled around and I actually started downright enjoying it. Funny how things turn out. Granted it helps that its just downright pretty.

(Oh, and yuri hype goes ->here<-)

Finished Code Gaess. Rant engaged! Minor spoilers ahead...

It really couldn't be more obvious that CG is a the result of a horrible corporate brainstorming session. I can picture the entire meeting.

"Okay. What show was popular that hasn't been ripped off of in a while?"
"Well, if we want to appeal to as much as possible, Full Metal Panic gives us military action, mecha and school comedy"
"GREAT! Oh yeah! Death Note was pretty original and popular! Let's steal from that somehow!"
"We can give the main character a ridiculously conditional superpower and also give him an inhuman thought-process."
"Brilliant! By the way, that chick from Elfen Lied was hot. That was popular too, right? Put someone like that chick in the show. But make her talk!"
"Yes sir"
"What should we do about sound effects, sir?"
"Steal them from VOTOMS. No one watched that show anyway"

The first episode is an absolute trainwreck. It manages to be passable for a while, though a hell of a lot of suspension of disbelief is needed. Yep. Everyone is gonna keep all those secrets. No one's gonna give. Nope. No one is human. No one follows orders. No one is loyal. No one makes a damn report. Yep. We're in a time with beam weapons and such, but the Gawain doesn't have a tracking device. Yep. LL cleans out Shirley's entire room, but misses a crumpled piece of paper in a space a foot wide between her desk and table. Etc, etc, etc.

Then episode 22 hits with one of the most laughable, ridiculous, stupid plot twists I've ever seen and it just spirals into a horrible non-ending. Yes, I know there's a second season, but that doesn't excuse the ending for the first series. It's barely even a cliffhanger, it's just a huge dookie laid on the people watching. The only thing it had going for it was that LL remained an unapoligetic bastard to the end. But man, I love how the THREE things LL lists while looking at Euphy aren't picked up, but the "Kill all 11's" is.

The school stuff is utterly pointless and only reinforces my belief that the show is just the byproduct of committee thinking. Shirley needed to not exist. Nina, Rivalz and everyone else were pointless and overused. Milly was at least interesting in her scant few dialogues with LL, and was pretty underused. It really could have done better if her character was combined with Shirley's. Kallen was the highlight of these, but the thing she was good for, the subtle tit-for-tat between her and LL, was thrown out the window before the first half was through. Her blind faith in Zero made sense and made for a better, if less likable, character though.

CC was just more annoying than anything else and felt tacked on. Order of the Black Knights were pretty much cardboard. As far as Britannia characters, these were mostly passable, but there were too many to make any real difference. Bonus points for Lloyd, who was the single character I enjoyed throughout because he just didn't give a damn, mirroring my feelings exactly.

It's almost like the show didn't want to succeed. Granted, with the ridiculous amounts of pandering to nearly every trope in the anime medium, it was near impossible for the show not to do well.

IIRC, Lulu's Geass JUST HAPPENED to "upgrade" to permanent status when he made the kill 11s remark.  Yeah, Geass is the most rediculously contrived show ever, by a magnitude of 10.

Also!

Negima manga - finally finished all of this series that exists at the moment. I honestly didn't expect that I'd get this far.

The only real praise I have for it is Akamatsu's attention to little details of his fantasy world. The scope of this series is ridiculously huge, only outdone by the size of its cast.

There are quite a number of flaws, with 90% of the offensiveness tied up in Akamatsu's propensity for fanservice. Arguably, this is the series strongest selling point, unfortunately.

Apart from the traps that all shounen anime fall into, the series is reasonably addictive fluff. Also, can't beat the yuri fanservice.

SPOILER, not that anyone cares!:

While it hasn't been spelled out in big bold letters yet, the series is about to reveal how Negi and Asuna are actually related. If this sends the series in the direction where Asuna and Negi -do not- become a creepy pedophilia-laden couple, it could really help the series not be trash (thus elevating back to its preferred status as 'unoffensive fluff'). However, unlike in an American series, just because Negi ends up being Asuna's nephew, it doesn't mean there's no chance for a creepy (creepier, since before it was just shoutacon) pairing. On the other hand, if they use this to take the relationship down the non-romantic familial-love path, it could really improve my opinion of the series.

END SPOILER

I still like the Pactio cards a lot, kiss more girls, Negi! Better yet, people -other- than Negi could make some Pacts.

Am I the only person who think the author brought out the whole "they are all related" deal just for the sole purpose of incest??? It really felt tacked on for some alternate purpose.

If you've gotten this far and are still squicky on the whole age thing... well, you should've known what you were getting into.

***Spoilers***

The Negi and Asuna being related thing is a nice twist on what you were expecting up to this point. I don't think it'll mean a pairing, because I've always felt that their relationship to this point was more brother/sister than a romantic one. It was only the whole main character syndrome thing that made me think otherwise. I'm guessing it's gonna be Nodoka at this point, unless something happens.

A few other people have pactios. Granted, they're minor characters. The only other mage around that can have one is, well, Konoka. I'm sure that we'll see the inevitable Konoka/Setsuna pactio. It'll happen.

************

LOL GameFAQs. Someone was trying to make the argument that Lelouch and Light from Deathnote aren't similar at all because their motivations are different. I countered by saying that trying to disregard massive similarities by a difference of motivations is like saying RahXephon isn't an Eva ripoff because RahXephon is a love story and Eva is a coming of age story. They countered with the gem OMG RAHXEPHON ISN'T AN EVA RIPOFF.

Oh GameFAQs. How you amuse me.

Seeing this about something tangentially related to Code Geass is amusing.

As for Negima, Asuna's behavior has been more fraternal than romantic towards Negi for a long, long time now.  Well, strictly speaking she's never actually behaved romantically towards him, but rather she was the Naru-style tsundere who beats up her designated love interest.  *twitch*  Sooo glad Akamatsu shifted her over to more of an overprotective big sis mode, she's about a million times more likable now.

Nadesico Prince of Darkness:
It's good, but... it feels more like it was just a platform for all the show's characters to show up on (a la Advent Children). Not that there's anything wrong with that, really. Also raises more questions than it answers, not that it answered many.

Trigun:
Pretty great. Nice to see my opinion of it based on only two episodes was accurate. It does fall off somewhat when humour takes a backseat.

Macross 7 Specials:
Fleet of the Strongest Women-
Nicely ludicrous. Needed more episodes of this calibre in the series proper. Also the big ol' speaker pod makes a reappearance and you can't really go past that.

Encore-
The first of these is 'let's give you Basara backstory and then imply that it was all a lie' and the second is 'Millia acts like a moron'. Not the most worthwhile things to watch ever.

Galaxy is Calling Me-
Matches the style of the series completely. Whether this is a good thing or not is up to the beholder.

Dynamite 7-
Pretty good.
Just about all of the segments devoted to the non-Basara M7 people are completely worthless in the grand scheme of things, which is somewhat perturbing, only Gamlin has any effect on anything relevant and it's only minor.
Mostly it's just refreshing to see different things happening. Also different music which was drastically needed.

Macross Zero:
Pretty. Really, really pretty. Extremely pretty.
The storyline verges somewhat into Super territory which is annoying, and it plays minor havoc with the Macross continuity (although this is more of a Macross tradition than anything, really... only Plus hasn't interfered, as far as I can remember). Taken on its own it's great.

Soul Eater- New chpater out. And we finally get to see Soul's past! But who cares!! Eibon finally back stabs Archne, at last!! Gah, what a cliff hanger, Mosquito vs. Eibon next chapter... with Kid coming by, who happens to have Brew. Yeah, Eibon meets Brew, I forsee some overkills.
