Lost Brain- Being the same thing as Death Note, I think I like this one better. Didn't got dragged to loong to become stupid, and didn't take itself too seriously when it shouldn't thus easier to pass those suspension of disbelief.

Soul Eater- I am taking back my words that this is dragging. Yeah, it kinda feel slow if judging only by the magazine updates. But when reading them in single volumes, the pacing actually turns out to be pretty good. There is enough drama and action in a single book.

Pandora Hearts- ...crap, don't tell me even Gil is getting fixed.

Started watching the Wild ARMS anime.

After five episodes I still have not seen any "cohesive" story forming beyond Sheyenne looking for his body. Feels like I might as well skip a bunch of episodes and move on to ten without missing a bit.

Is this anime going to turn spectacular anytime soon or is this one of those "It's Wild ARMS, therefore people watch it" obscure things?

Yeah I suspected as much.

Gets bonus points for being relatively old and still introducing homosexual relationships, and some more bonus points for actual comedic value but the episodes really feel like stand-alone episodes.

Like some sort of Pokémon thing where the story progresses once every ten episodes with lots of filler crap, except WA is only 24 episodes.

Let's hope the last few episodes will feature a coherent story, then. Episode 1 to 2 transition made me think I was missing something.

Twilight Venom is... pretty much fill for episodes 2-9, and 12-19.  Basically the plot suddenly gets coherent in the last two episodes, at which point is... actually pretty neat.  Worth sticking with it.

Chi's New Address is the best anime of 09 easily and fuck you if you disagree with me.

WA: TV - You really should watch the train episode, it has some genuine moments of funny IIRC. It's basically the only thing I remember about the series apart from the fact that Zed has a cameo appearance in one episode in a flashback. They translate his name as 'Jet', I believe.

Shin Mazinger:

Good news, everyone!

Remember when everybody got excited about a Z Mazinger TV series, and then we found out that they were just doing a sorta-remake of the original, which was still pretty awesome but not as awesome?

THAT WAS A BALD-FACED LIE. Also, Zeus is apparently a 50-foot tall giant wearing a Gold Cloth (yes, as in Saint Seiya) modeled on Mazinger. Why? Because it's insane.

Non-spoiler reaction: This show is on immense quantities of drugs, and it is glorious.

Mazinger and Sengoku Basara can be 2nd and 3rd BEST ANIME OF 2009 after dear little Chi's New Address.

Sengoku Basara - While I couldn't make out a ton of the dialogue, I got enough to see that this was better than I was expecting. I was fearing it'd turn into generic shounen without it being a game, but it actually keeps the style and humor of the games well enough. Entertaining, will keep tabs.

Phantom: "......" at the VA cast... at least it I unique I guess. And the plot is looking fine so far, hope it stays true to the original plot and don't attempt something foolish. Oh, and despite it is impossible, I still wish for a Claudia end.

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood.  A new season of FMA or something like that?  I only found one episode for it, but it apparently takes place during the first series.  My guess is it's going to be more focused on the military life and being a state alchemist than the plotline itself, although they do seem intertwined of course.

Akikan- Managed to get through an episode of this.  Not my type I guess because I found it fucking awful.

Brotherhood is supposed to be a straight adaptation of the manga, as opposed to the first anime that went onto a completely different path after episode 26. So they'll probably gloss over the first half of the story and spend most of the show on the second.

So you're saying your 'type' has something to do with a show having 'any redeeming value or quality whatsoever.'  huh.

Ahh, that should be cool then Shale.  I hate running into shows at the beginning though, I prefer to watch it all at once, but now that I know it exists, that won't happen.

And I'm glad I wasn't missing something Notmiki.  I kept waiting for a cool character, interesting plot twist, good villain, or something to come in.  It never did so... 1 episode is enough (too much) for me!

Shows like that are like abusive spouses.  They'll never change, no matter how much you hope they will.

咲-Saki-: Okay this is ridiculous and is pretty much 100% approved by me. ( o.o)b This couldn't possbly be better than Akagi but it comes pretty damn close. You couldn't really compare them that much apart from the mahjong, which happens right off the bat. Despite the titular character mentioning that even though her family plays she hates it. Then she ends up playing because she wants to impress her crush. Which is also a girl.

YAY. NONSENSICAL BUT. Still 100% approved. ( o.o)b
19:35:58 (trancehime) there's a specific spot in the game that's for item duping
19:36:14 (Sanae) o.o
19:39:11 (Sanae) I'd love to dupe a second trancehime.

Valkyria Chronicles anime has happened yet?

That and Sengoku Basara are pretty much the only things I've been looking forward to.

I'll wait for fansubs of both as I'm waaaay too lazy to try to decipher Japanese these days.

Beck - Disc 1 down.  Musicwise it has been slow starting off, the highlights has been the music in the menus actually.  Still the Blitlock Engrish song at the end of the disc was not bad.

Highlights is the Bass Guitar work though.  It is at its best when it is front and center of the song and just kicks arse.  It is shades of Tom Morello's bass work.  Not the really crazy lead stuff, but his Bass work on RATM self titled album has some resemblance.

I am loving the pedigree of the music though.  There is some really great old bands getting nods in places here and there (Residents in the closing credits!).  Also while the actual playing animation isn't perfect (it is never going to be unless you rotoscoped someone playing an actual instrument I guess?  Way more expensive than it is worth) I do have to say it is head and shoulders against most animation of instruments of course with those largely being I MOVE MY HAND UP AND DOWN AND PLAY 15 DIFFERENT OCTAVES.  The Instruments though, now THOSE are animated beautifully.  You can see there was a lot of care put into them and they are actually probably the highlights outside of the music for me.

Slice of life stuff isn't bad and all, but I am mostly here for the music so I am probably not giving it the full respect it may deserve.  Oh well, that is what you get for making an anime about music.

Edit - Specific pieces are the main menu piece and the one from the Setup menu that I would listen to a bit.  It is very hard grungey kind of sound sometimes.

I MOVE MY HAND UP AND DOWN AND PLAY 15 DIFFERENT OCTAVES.

This is one of those areas where live action shows are usually about as realistic as animated ones.  (other thing that comes to mind: "This ship will self-destruct in 5 minutes."  Does the ship EVER self-destruct in exactly 5 minutes?)
