G Gundam- Okay, so I picked up a used set marked Season 2. How it actually works is, there's 12 discs making up the full series. I actually have discs 6, 7, and 9-12. This is probably advantageous overall, giving me the end of the first season and skipping four random opponents. Well, three random opponents and Allenby.
Biggest criticism is that the series clearly didn't really know what to do with the Shuffle Alliance. They have these brilliant fight sequences with Domon, but when it comes to the whole Devil Gundam fights they're nominally assembled to deal with, they have to take on the Four Kings in two on one battles, spend ten minutes getting mercilessly pounded, then FINALLY remember they have moves besides "get pounded on" and win in a single blow. I mean, winning in one blow isn't outside the norm in this series, but they didn't even make the pounding interesting. It's me sitting there thinking "jesus guys you have better attacks than this, put down the damned Idiot Ball"
All that said, in other respects the endgame plot works pretty well. A little too much "spend 10 minutes losing before using good attacks/inventing new attack" but they're interesting to watch, and plenty of loud roars telling them to sieze happiness. Twists in the plot are pretty coherent.
Generally just kinda a 7/10 series I guess.
