Ninja Scroll (Movie) -
Was listed as similar to Basilisk which I found considerably enjoyable so. Outside of Kagero, the similarity mostly ends with 'there are ninjas and they all have bizarre powers' (and Kagero is really effectively just that, except the two of them have roughly the same power and vaguely similar goals in life). It's a nice film, it just wasn't strictly everything I was hoping for. Given the limited time however I'm not sure that was a realistic ideal anyway.
I intend to watch the series at some point, but it may take a while to get to it. Trailer makes it look a fair departure from the tone of the movie anyway.
El Hazard TMW -
Magnificent. Highly entertaining. Katsuhiko is delightfully insane.
That said it does ride on its humour a bit overmuch, and when they try to include some touching moments such as the ending they're generally not very effective. Which is a shame as it by all rights should have been leaving aside the fact that he is in love with a robot and I can't actually pinpoint why it doesn't work as well as it might.
Diva effectively disappears from the show halfway in which is a tad bemusing.
El Hazard TMW 2 -
Not so magnificent. Still good, but there's less of Katsuhiko being insane. Also inferior designs for some characters. Also the plot is less worthwhile. I will grant that I completely didn't expect the Kalia situation to be resolved the way it was.
Fatora and Aleile disappear halfway into the show just to set up a lame joke at the end, and Diva disappears AGAIN albiet this time vaguely justified by her being ordered to stock up their new fortress with a large amount of warriors, which considering what she is I find somewhat disturbing.
The extras make reference to El Hazard Wanderers and TAW, but the TMW collection appears to be the only thing available here with the others discontinued or worse. I am in a temporary state of despair.
