I hadn't realized the game had started. I also slept from 4 PM yesterday until 10 AM this morning, so that might have something to do with it. Let me quote: "Otter at least has the excuse of not being on the DL boards since before the game started." This is absolutely true. I'm here now.
Anyway, let me clear something up for QR. I -have- opined in the past that townies have no good reason to be uncivil. Personal attacks and such impoliteness have a tendency to cause various dramas that distract everybody from focusing on the game, and what's more, these fights are usually between one townie and another. On the flipside, if someone brazenly insults you for no good reason, you can be almost certain that they're doing it because they're scum and have the exact intention of causing this phenomenon; in other words, don't take it personally! That's letting their strategy work, and what's more, the scum player is only doing it as a strategy anyway.
Note that "be polite" doesn't mean "don't accuse people." That would be ridiculous. But you can pick apart arguments and cast suspicion on someone as scum, even make a whole serious case on him, without simultaneously turning it into a dramatic personal struggle. Please aim to do this. Townies want to play aggressively, yet with civility and calmness. Lots of communication helps us, but it's preferable for the communication to be clear and unmarred by personal melodramas. Keeping your cool and concentrating on the task at hand is as important in Mafia as it is in Touhou!
In that spirit, I'm going to throw a semi-serious vote at Tom. ##VOTE: EvilTom What I'm looking at here is mostly the "And it's they're, not their." Look, we can ALL point out ten mistakes in any of smodge's posts, and we've all told him that we'd really prefer if he'd improve grammatically. However, he's -aware- of this already, and how he posts is up to him, and while greater clarity is always preferable, I think we're getting the gist of what he has to say anyhow. Is this sort of passive-aggressive correction helpful to anyone? I don't think so, and it's the sort of thing that creates rifts between players for no particularly good reason.
