Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen

First off: Thanks to Gourry for gathering PC stats, and for Deathlike2's wonderful Unit Analysis guide. All formulas were taken from that, along with the half dozen other people who helped with this monster of a topic.


This game's mechanics are remarkably complicated for a game that only has six visible stats. Every single formula in the game boils down to some form of stat versus stat.  Here's the basic damage formula:

Raw Attack Damage = (STR or INT of Attacker)/2 + Movement Factor * 2 - Time Factor/5 + Tactics Factor + Kiss Bonus + random (1, 8)

Absorbable Damage = ((STR or INT of Target)/2 + Movement Factor * 2 - Time Factor/5 + Kiss Bonus + random (3, 10)) * Target's Resistance/100


Damage done: Raw attack damage-Absorbable damage.

That's just the damage formula in an attack. Accuracy is a different check, and involves luck and other factors. I'll put up a more complete explaination on the Wiki about each formula along with a breakdown of each. But for now, I'm just going to put up the numbers. I factored out time factor (Alignment), kiss bonus, and movement. I averaged each stat by taking all the plot PC's and one of each generic type. OB's huge cast size and team size is pretty clearly scaled towards having an army that is mostly generics, so the averages reflect this. I used an average enemy attack to judge damage taken from the final map. Boss notes will be up later, I need to test Endora and Rashidi some more.  I am also only posting ranked PC's for the moment. I am skipping the base stats, you can find those in Gourry's old topics and the Wiki and just putting in the DL relevant ones. Ask any questions here about how I got the numbers I used/got.

Lord

HP: 259 (111%)
Speed: 156.5 (89%)
Physical Evade: -10% (20% raw)
Magical evade: -10% (20% raw)
Physical status resist: -10%
Magic status resist: -10%
Status recovery: 10% bonus to breaking out of nonfatal status.

Defenses:

Physical element: 16% resist (physical) , 10% weak (magic).
Fire: 13% physical resist, 11% magic weak
Ice: 13% physical resist, 9% magic weak
Thunder: 9% physical weak , 26% magic weak
Holy: 4% physical resist, 19% magic weak
Darkness: 6% physical resist, 13% magic weak
Non elemental magic: 10% weak

Slice (3): 70x3 = 210 physical damage. -10% accuracy penalty.

Comments: Light/Middle. I chose Destin's Ianuki form. It's canon (OB64), and is his best by far. It still has problems. The elemental weaknesses don't matter so much, but the status weakness and speed and accuracy issues all add up. A strong 2HKO and being good against fighters saves him from being a weak Middle.

Aisha



Monk

HP: 210 (90%)
Speed: 199 (114%)
Physical Evade: 20% (40% raw)
Magical evade: 40% (60% raw)
Physical status resist: 10%
Magic status resist: 30%
Status recovery:Neutral

Defenses:

Physical element: 32% physical weak, 7% magic weak
Fire: 23% physical weak, average against fire magic
Ice: 33% physical weak, 9% magic weak
Thunder: 33% physical weak , 12% magic weak
Holy: 39% physical resist, Immune to holy magic
Darkness: 64% physical weak, 56% magic weak
Non elemental magic: 34% resistance

Ankh (3): 54x3 = 162 damage. 10% accuracy bonus, Holy elemental, ignores physical resist. Runs off STR.

Comments: Light/Middle. The clerics are solid magical spoilers on paper, boasting excellent MDef and tons of magical evade to back up good damage (for light) off well above average speed. The elemental resistances are a massive problem, they hate physicals and they can't do damage if you wall holy. Light is a physical division, which sucks. What doesn't suck? Aisha has a verging 2HKO with those physicals!


Norn



Monk

HP: 206 (88%)
Speed: 200 (114%)
Physical Evade: 20% (40% raw)
Magical evade: 40% (60% raw)
Physical status resist: 10%
Magic status resist: 30%
Status recovery:Neutral.

Defenses:

Physical element: 32% physical weak, 7% magic weak
Fire: 23% physical weak, 2% magic resist
Ice: 33% physical weak, 7% magic weak
Thunder: 33% physical weak, 9% magic weak
Holy: 41% physical resist, Immune to holy magic
Darkness: 64% physical weak, 56% magic weak
Non elemental magic: 37% resistance

Ankh (3): 55x3 = 165 damage, holy elemental, ignores physical resist. 10% accuracy bonus. Runs off STR.

Comments: Light/Middle. See above.


Rauny Vinzalf



Muse

HP: 212 (91%)
Speed: 215 (123%)
Physical Evade: 30% (50% raw)
Magical evade: 40% (60% raw)
Physical status resist: 20%
Magic status resist: 30%
Status recovery: 10%

Defenses:

Physical element: 2% physical resist, 20% magic resist
Fire: 6% physical weak, 9% magic resist
Ice: 16% physical resist, 40% magic resist
Thunder: 31% physical resist, 58% magic resist
Holy: 41% physical resist, 70% magic resist
Darkness: 53% physical weak, 47% magic weak
Non elemental magic: 22% resistance

Thunder (2): 81x2 = 162 magic damage, MT, thunder elemental, 20% more accurate than average.
Chop (2): 54x2 = 108 physical damage, 20% more accurate than average.

Comments: Middle/Heavy. Weak 2HKOs off that kind of speed are scary in Middle, and her status resist/evasion means she is extremely likely to get two turns. She has no real weaknesses and a couple of critical resists (ICe, thunder, non elemental magic). She's also not completely screwed if someone walls thunder, as a verging 3/4KHO lets her handle those who just wall thunder and do nothing else. Definitely the surprise of the topic.


Saradin



Wizard

HP: 184 (79%)
Speed: 177.5 (101%)
Physical Evade: 10% (30% raw)
Magical evade: 40% (60% raw)
Physical status resist: Neutral
Magic status resist: 30%
Status recovery: Neutral

Defenses:

Physical element: 59% physical weak, 41% magic weak
Fire: 21% physical weak, 9% magic resist
Ice: 29% physical weak, 14% magic resist
Thunder: 24% physical weak, 14% magic resist
Holy: 39% physical weak, 7% magic weak
Darkness: 13% physical resist, 69% magic resist
Non elemental magic: 34% resistance

Magic (2): 73x2 = 146 magic damage. Saradin can choose to use a Dark, Thunder, Fire, Ice, or wind/physical elemental spell. 20% more accurate than average. This attack is extremely accurate in game (Smacks up against the hit cap pretty hard), so it's closer to  30-40% more accurate than average.

Comments: Light. The Wizard form takes physicals ever so slightly worse, but it's still better than the Mage form and it's mighty one spell a battle. Either way, he hates life if you don't allow the Undead items. (I don't.) His physical durability is appalling. Handles mages decently well enough- would do better if he could scrape a 2HKO. Still, elemental weaknesses of any type push him into 2HKO range and that is bad news.


Yushis



Seraphim

HP: 206 (88%)
Speed: 194.5 (111%)
Physical Evade: 20% (40% raw)
Magical evade: 40% (60% raw)
Physical status resist: 10%
Magic status resist: 30%
Status recovery: 10%

Defenses:

Physical element: 18% physical weak, 5% magic resist
Fire: 6% physical resist, 40% magic resist
Ice: 11% physical resist, 47% magic resist
Thunder: 4% physical resist, 37% magic resist
Holy: 65% physical resist, Immunes holy magic
Darkness: 47% physical weak, 38% magic weak
Non elemental magic: 39% resistance

Halo (2): 65x2= 130 damage, Holy elemental. Ignores physical resist. 10% more accurate than average. Runs off STR.
Jihad (1): 102x1=102 damage. Holy elemental magic damage, MT.

Comments: Light. The division is too heavily geared towards fighters. She's decent enough thanks to the speed, but urgh to that PDef. Jihad's only really useful if she really needs to avoid counter attacks.


Kaus Debonair



General

HP: 262 (112%)
Speed: 228.5 (131%)
Physical Evade: 40% (60% raw)
Magical evade: 30% (50% raw)
Physical status resist: 30%
Magic status resist: 20%
Status recovery: 10%

Debonair is immune to Charm.

Defenses:

Physical element: 41% physical resist, 29% magic resist
Fire: 6% physical resist, neutral to fire magic
Ice: 18% physical resist, 9% magic resist
Thunder: 9% physical resist, neutral to ice magic
Holy: 85% physical resist, 70% magic resist
Darkness: 13% physical weak, 20% magic weak
Non elemental magic: 20% resistance

Slice (3): 76x3= 228 damage.20% more accurate than average. It requires fairly high (10-20% above average) evasion to make him start to miss.


Comments: High Heavy. Excellent 2HKO off 130% speed is nice. The evade means he's extremely tough to hit, and like most of the cast is fairly tough to status out. Physical spoilers and durable bosses keep him out of the H/G range.



Tristan Zenobia



General

HP: 262 (112%)
Speed: 229 (131%)
Physical Evade: 40% (60% raw)
Magical evade: 30% (50% raw)
Physical status resist: 30%
Magic status resist: 20%
Status recovery: 10%

Tristan is immune to Charm.

Defenses:

Physical element: 33% physical resist, 24% magic resist
Fire: 4% physical resist, 2% magic weak
Ice: 13% physical resist, 7% magic resist
Thunder: 4% physical resist, 2% magic weak
Holy: 78% physical resist, 65% magic resist
Darkness: 17% physical weak, 22% magic weak
Non elemental magic: 10% resistance

Slice (3): 76x3= 216 damage.20% more accurate than average. It requires fairly high (10-20% above average) evasion to make him start to miss.


Comments: High Heavy. Can you believe this scrub, he's slightly weak to fire magic so clearly weaker than Debonair!!!1!


Fenril



Dragoon

HP: 229 (98%)
Speed: 202.5 (116%)
Physical Evade: 30% (50% raw)
Magical evade: 30% (50% raw)
Physical status resist: 20% (Borderline 10% range, like by .01 or something.)
Magic status resist: 20%
Status recovery: 10%

Defenses:

Physical element: 68% physical resist, 68% magic resist
Fire: 40% physical resist, 42% magic resist
Ice: 42% physical resist, 40% magic resist
Thunder: 51% physical resist, 51% magic resist
Holy: 24% physical resist, 21% magic resist
Darkness: 26% physical resist, 24% magic resist
Non elemental magic: 12% resistance

Slice (3): 69x3= 207 damage.20% more accurate than average.


Comments: High Heavy. Unholy tank with a nasty 2HKO. Not as fast or damaging as Debonair, but those defenses are nasty.

Slust



Dragoon

HP: 257 (110%)
Speed: 192.5 (110%)
Physical Evade: 20% (40% raw)
Magical evade: 20% (40% raw)
Physical status resist: 10%
Magic status resist: 10%
Status recovery: 10%

Defenses:

Physical element: 80% physical resist, 66% magic resist
Fire: 49% physical resist, 33% magic resist
Ice: 51% physical resist, 35% magic resist
Thunder: 60% physical resist, 42% magic resist
Holy: 33% physical resist, 14% magic resist
Darkness: 34% physical resist, 18% magic resist
Non elemental magic: 5% resistance

Charge (3): 78*3 = 234 damage. 10% more accurate than average.


Comments: High Heavy. Better on the physical end than Fenril, worse at everything else. Pretty much doesn't lose to normal physicals.

Fogel



Dragoon

HP: 259 (110%)
Speed: 209 (119%)
Physical Evade: 30% (50% raw)
Magical evade: 30% (50% raw)
Physical status resist: 20%
Magic status resist: 20%
Status recovery: 20%

Fogel is immune to charm.

Defenses:

Physical element: 89% physical resist, 66% magic resist
Fire: 63% physical resist, 40% magic resist
Ice: 60% physical resist, 40% magic resist
Thunder: 69% physical resist, 51% magic resist
Holy: 39% physical resist, 21% magic resist
Darkness: 39% physical resist, 24% magic resist
Non elemental magic: 12% resistance

Charge (3): 83*3 = 249 damage. 20% more accurate than average.


Comments: Heavy/Godlike. The stats speak for himself. He's better than Jade against nonelemental physicals, has a high 2HKO and generally doesn't die unless you're packing some nuclear grade offense.
