Tourney of Interest Season 8 Finals
« on: June 01, 2009, 05:04:32 AM »
Ryu- xi v PD- i
Psyche- i v Giratina- v

Angeal- ii v Shaymin- i
Zeal- ii v Ultros- x

Teddie- iii v Viola
Chie- v v Slime

Healie v Malak- x
Sanaki- iii v Luceid- iiii

And then there were, like, half as many!

Godlike

Ryu (Breath of Fire III) vs Giratina (Pokémon)

Heavy

Angeal Hewley (Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII) vs Ultros (Final Fantasy VI)

Middle

Teddie (Persona 4) vs Chie Satonaka (Persona 4)

Light

Malak Galthana (Final Fantasy Tactics) vs Luceid (Wild ARMs Series)

Extra Special Note

So, I was thinking that, owing to large bouts of people being able to vote on nothing, we'd try something different.  So, another Futurama will launch next week.  There will be only one competitor from a given game.  The DL side will simply be taken from the top 32 vote draws, but for the NR side, I figured people should get some say in the matter.  So, please list five unranked games you'd like to see used in this experiment.  The duellers themselves will be picked in order to best fill up division space, so at this point in time recommending a specific dueller will be taken as listing their game of origin.  Please keep in mind that games suggested should be completely unranked, so things like FFT generics will be ignored.

Thank you for your cooperation, and happy voting!

Ryu (Breath of Fire III) vs Giratina (Pokémon) - Doesn't OHKO, so Ryu wins. Although, it might make an interesting plot match!

Heavy

Angeal Hewley (Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII) vs Ultros (Final Fantasy VI) - Blinds Angeal, Angeal cries? I forget how good FF6 Blind is.

Middle

Teddie (Persona 4) vs Chie Satonaka (Persona 4) - *Sigh* Still no P4.

Light

Malak Galthana (Final Fantasy Tactics) vs Luceid (Wild ARMs Series) - I don't know which is more LOL, but this amuses me.

Teddie (Persona 4) vs Chie Satonaka (Persona 4) - To make things more insulting, Chie immunes Teddie's magic. Because she wasn't blowing him up with her buffing game as it stood. Up to Heavy, miss Satonaka.

Light

Malak Galthana (Final Fantasy Tactics) vs Luceid (Wild ARMs Series) - lolno.

Ryu (Breath of Fire III) vs Giratina (Pokémon): Dragon Blade Frost Claw means Gira is effectively eating a W4, against someone whose probably better at being this wall...yeah...

Heavy

Angeal Hewley (Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII) vs Ultros (Final Fantasy VI): First off, FF6 Blind doesn't generally work on bosses, and Crisis Core Bosses are generally status immune, so all things point to Angeal immuning Octopus INk.  LET ALONE how FF6 Ink is BUGGED in most versions of the game does nothing.

Branching from that...Angeal is just much better at slugging than Ultros is, considering the much better durability and what not.  This is doubly so when you note how Angeal's best damage move hits Ultros' weakness...

Middle

Teddie (Persona 4) vs Chie Satonaka (Persona 4): Can't vote.

Light

Malak Galthana (Final Fantasy Tactics) vs Luceid (Wild ARMs Series): Lucied had good magic defense in WA3, right?  That means Malak's damage goes up!

I also don't care enough to think things out beyond that.

Teddie (Persona 4) vs Chie Satonaka (Persona 4)- Ooh, this is actually a pretty good match. If could hinge on what Teddie's durability is with the 30% physical resistant armor. Throw on that and Marakukaja, and he might have live through PC God Hand. Of course, Chie then has Tarukaja, but that's giving Teddie more turns to attack. Of course, needing to kill him twice doesn't help much. Of course, Chie nulling Ice does throw him for a bit of a loop. I guess the question also is if Teddie has the turns to rack up enough damage to make it so she can't use God Hand twice too.

Light

Malak Galthana (Final Fantasy Tactics) vs Luceid (Wild ARMs Series) - Malak versus a 6HKO. Yeah.

Games
Suikoden Tactics, WA 5, SO 1 (but maybe one of the less split characters?), RS, Persona 1

Games:

Maybe I'll fill in more later.  I'd suggest Suikoden Tierkreis as well but I think only two people have played that.

Teddie (Persona 4) vs Chie Satonaka (Persona 4) - This actually isn't as much of a blow out as Snow is making it to be. However, Teddie curses two things. Losing first turn, and bad HP. I think as a result, even with the physical resist armor. Maraku and Mataru offset each other to me, so I don't see it as much of an issue.

Light
Malak Galthana (Final Fantasy Tactics) vs Luceid (Wild ARMs Series) - This match is made of win. MALAK HAS HIGHER DAMAGE HERE. YESZ

Oh right, 5 games:

EDIT: Ohhh, right, not as bad a defense hit as I thought, this helps Teddie some. On the other hand, Chie probably still blows through that too well, Teddie's durability is game-worst to begin with (78% PC HP! If the phys-resist armor didn't hit his defense at all, he'd be pretty much effectively average durability to physicals, but it does, so it probably just gets him into the 90% range), and she can twink for some extra damage instead of going for, say, Miori Shirt or the speed equips - or she can get him in a bad spot with her status weapons (Rage would be the nail on the coffin against him, and that's not considering how she could crit with her physicals). Since Teddie is giving up valuable time to buff his durability (Chie still kills him with PC God Hand if he doesn't Maraku) and he gives up the first turn... no, can't really see him managing too well, and Chie even has multiple status options (both Confuse from Skull Cracker and Rage from Punk Shoes rip Teddie a new one when they connect). Then, Teddie's own physicals risk hitting High Counter and putting him in a more delicate situation, and he's 5HKOing her without factoring any evade at all (she has 30% evade+20% odds of High Counter. This is probably getting the figure up to a practical 7HKO). The bad odds and the risk of her OHKOing him even through the two defensive measures he can apply stack up a lot.

Teddie actually has about 89% HP by default (The average would have to be a lot higher for him to hit 78%). Granted, her evasion is 15% to average accuracy to me, which Teddie doesn't quite have (Might fall to 20% or 25%). Throw in High Counter, and that's a lot to grapple with (I'm assuming that Auto-Sukukaja armor may have the flaw of meaning that he kills her a lot more quickly...granted, could help her get two God Hand's if he always misses). It's likely Chie's match, but may not be without the Ice nulling.

I'm going by the effective durability numbers given by OK, and those are with setups I find pretty acceptable (girls use Rune Dress, Kanji uses Aegis), and Teddie's tied for game-worst End does a number to the 89% figure. And don't forget that he takes a further defense hit to his relevant durability in the fight (mitigated by the resistance, -but- not negligible, as the armor is over 100 points lower in defense than his default) as well. I undersold Teddie in the fight, I guess, but the spoiling is just the tipping Chie needs for that secure win, particularly since he has to juggle a lot to get his game going.

Hm.  Partially ranked games (FFX-2, Persona 1/2) or... well, XS3 is pretty much unique at this point... anyway, they feel like special cases that aren't really ranked or unranked.  So... I might use them in the event that I can't think of enough games without them.

END affects both physical and magical resilience, and is divisive.  DEF from armour from what I know only affects physical defense, and appears to be subtractive in some way (not sure by how much - need to look in to that exactly - I want to say the actual effect is halved).

Could just be a mixed system. Armor effects could be subtractive, endurance could be division.

Does MAG have nothing to do with how well you take magical damage?

Which is exactly what I said a post before about the mixed system!

If it does, it's about as significant as Krillin's winning streak.

Well, the hit from Rune Dress is surprisingly small given the stat boosts (270 to 350 is... significant, but not crippling), and the +4 to Endurance certainly helps mitigate that as well. I'm giving OK the benefit of doubt for the effect here, and I do believe Tal said something to the effect of subtractive/divisive split between stats. So, YMMV there, but.
