And Tal finishes this one up. Was a bit vague due to the amount of WA4 fanboyism here, surprised this one went a bit long. I was inspired by Dark Holy Elf's post in "What games are you playing?" mentioning his Kresnik antihype.
Magic Fanatic gets honorable mention for the Squall guess, which actually fits 1-4 very well. I was kinda expecting a Justin guess too, though he only really fits 2-4.
1) I am *such* a badass.
One word: Motorcycle. (The game certainly thinks he's a badass, at least.)
2) You may have beaten me the first time, my rival. But just wait! I'll show you!
Jude is set up as Kresnik's rival as far as "Who can protect Yulie better?!" (Also from the second opening FMV.) And Jude does win their little playful shootout (kinda jarring in a game where lots of boss fights end with the boss dead).
3) I have a will of iron. Yet I'm also prone to times of painful self-doubt.
Kresnik shouldn't even really be able to use ARMs but does anyway, along with a few other nearly impossible things by basically trying really hard. He also gets to mope.
4) But then I think about what really matters, and I'm set to go and teach my rival a lesson! Uh... my other rival, that is.
Jeremy being Kresnik's other rival, and clue 3-4 referring to the Port Rosalia incident.
5) My true promise... I can remind myself of it with this music.
Kresnik's music box, which plays the song he & Yulie know ("Our true promise" is a line from it, I think). And also annoyingly shows up in the ending.
6) This is where I note that the music from clue #5 is different than the special battle music that plays just for me. I'm certain.
"This is where the spirit becomes certain" is Kresnik's battle theme.
Honestly, I actually like the kind of character Kresnik is, I'm just not certain it was entirely intentional? And he'd need more script to fill it out fully. The idea of the person who is simultaneously awesome and pathetic, who has an iron will in trying to protect his sister yet can't figure out what his sister actually wants, and who has confused loyalties that even he isn't sure about, and who is also a Class F failure dismissed by all... yeah, that could actually be pretty neat. Shame it never quite gels, but I appreciate the effort. I think.
