Your point doesn't make my assertion bad logic. It just means that future lynches will be slightly less accurate.

Which means that we're not skipping our inaccurate lynch, just delaying it by a day (well, half a day, I guess), at which point we will likely be down a townie of scum's choosing, but with the same amount of daytime evidence to work off of. I don't like that trade, and I really don't like the assertion that we can skip the town-in-the-dark stage of the early game by not lynching.

And ninja'd by vote count, which shows rather conclusively that our options are Alex and Otter. I've already said that I don't think Alex is worth a vote. I will go back and reread Otter's stuff, but it will take a good deal for me to throw him and Alex into a tie.

Excal: That's why I asked Carth to tell me if my train of logic is wrong.

While it doesn't prove definitively that Cid is either side, it does prove that he isn't lying (a case which should result in instant lynching). So, in other words, it narrows the scope of our examination. If I'm wrong, obviously I'm more than happy to step off. I just thought that it should be high priority to determine the legitimacy of claims.

Well, time's up and I don't see public opinion swinging my way.  No useful roleclaim, sorry.  I've only got one power and it only comes into play when I die.

The thing that's being missed here is, that the exchange isn't going to just be that we lose information.  We also gain a confirmed townie out of the deal, which is worth something, and does a good deal to limit what choices the scum can make.  You're making it sound like we gain nothing by having Cid use his power, whereas we gain a great deal of confidence in someone whose done a good job of attracting attention thus far.

Re: Andrew.  Eh, I suppose it could be a scum power.  But it's a terribly unbalancing one if so, given that they actually know if who they're saving is on their side.

Okay, then!

First impression: Poor reading comprehension. Grills Carthrat on why he would claim dayvig off the bat (defensible, if rather self-evident), and claims confusion on how Rat is going to use the kill, when he spelled that out in the first post of the topic. Asking questions that can be answered by the "quote" button is not something I like, personally.

Second impression: Attacks CPU for patently bad play. This is not a bad thing, and it's highly in character for Otter. Next!

Null read for a bit, logical arguments about what is and isn't good about more time to talk, and then the Cid roleclaim.

Quote
I don't personally know of any scum roles which mimic the Governor's ability, so the question is: is it worth giving up one of our day 1 lynches (of which we have two, now) to confirm a townie?

I don't like that logic. I don't necessarily think it's scummy, but I don't like it. Any role can be a scum role. It's not divine providence we're dealing with, it's the whims of one person who wrote up some PMs.

In general, though, Otter's reaction to the Cid thing is rubbing me the wrong way.

Quote
On the flipside, even Alex is telling us "No, don't make Cid use his power, that power sucks" -- which it does, but it means Cid's gotten everyone to accept him as a townie (note the dropped votes) and there'll almost certainly never come a time when he has to demonstrate that ability.  Unless we make him.

So we should gimp ourselves by using a power that "sucks" for town, to....gain what, now? We get a semi-reliable flip on Cid, in exchange for an absolutely reliable one on a lynch target. You're acting like the only way to diagnose Cid as town/scum is by testing his roleclaim, instead of watching his play. That's weird, to me, especially when testing the roleclaim means sacrificing a shot of town's best weapon.

Ninja'd by a ton of posts, none of which really affects this one. Whee, might as well get it out there.

##unvote Sir Alex
Still not sure how much I trust you, but for now, I think I'll yield. I'm not leaving out the idea of YOU being an event-triggered SK. I mostly think that this setup with Rat could easily be a third-party of some kind, and you being a "Backup" doesn't conflict with this, too much. At any rate, most of what I wanted to do on day one was get people to talk and get people to consider that, yes, it's quite possible that Rat is not necessarily on our side, and that doesn't necessarily mean that he's aligned with Scum, either.

Absence explained:
I sleep from early morning to the mid-afternoon.

If you're going to claim then claim. If you're not going to claim despite impending doom, then good riddance. If part of your role is that you can't claim then you might want to rethink the "assume no bastard modding" posts from earlier.

A really good guess.  If it weren't in my role to kill as many of you as possible, I probably WOULD have claimed it and let you guys lynch me with some lurker bringing in the hammer.  But my role dictates I take as many of you down with me as I can, and if Rat lives, town might win cleanly and prevent that.  So it goes.

SHHH! Hammer!

Mod info:

As mentioned earlier, this is just a soft hammer. The game is paused. Please do not post.

I have to run out the door, but Hamme result will be posted in about 3-4 hours.

The game will not resume at that point; it will resume 1pm tomorrow (+11) (when Day 1 was originally intended to end) and will run for the remaining 27~ish hours. In this time I will attempt to track down OK, if I fail I will replace him.

Carthrat stands tall, striking an authoritative stance. He places his hands firmly on his hips, and surveys the gathered crowd before him. The light symphonic background music ceases abruptly as Otter is pushed to the forefront. The Prince’s gaze comes to rest on him, staring him down and silently passing judgement.

“Otter!” He announces; “from the moment you entered, we knew you didn’t fit in amongst us. Your trench-coat didn’t meet the formal dress code, and you’ve been mouthing off all along; you obviously don’t know the finer points of Camarilla etiquette!” There’s a murmur of agreement from the members of the crowd, now forming a wall behind Otter. “Tell us,” Prince Carthrat continued, “why are you here, what is your mission? Who do you work for?”

Otter takes a purposeful step forward and spits on the stone floor at Carthrat’s feet. Fuming, Carthrat stares into his eyes and commands “KNEEL to me, scum!” Otter is unable to break the gaze and pushes himself onto one knee, his will Dominated. Forcing himself to speak, Otter struggles and finds the will to announce “the end is coming for you all, you first, Carthrat you vile-“

Enraged, Carthrat thrusts his hand into his jacket and pulls forth from the belt at the back of his pants a concealed .50 calibre Desert Eagle, gold plated. He whips it around and fires a shot into Otter’s right breast; the gunshot thunders through the hall and echoing around, the booming leaving a piercing ring in your ears. The force of the AE ammunition knocks Otter’s body back onto the floor like a ragdoll, Carthrat easily absorbing the recoil. Silence again reigns over the assembly, until it is broken by a painful groan from Otter’s prostrate body.

“He’s still alive?!” A member of the crowd gasps; “he must be Kindred! Not even a ghoul could have survived that!”
“Silence!” Carthrat orders, as angry as confused. He steps close to Otter, and stoops down, holstering the mammoth gas-powered pistol. The crowd gathers in a circle, keeping a safe distance. Carthrat pulls open the trenchcoat, revealing a Kevlar vest rapidly soaking in blood; “see,” the Prince explained; “I was correct, he… wait… what’s this?” Noticing a wire hanging out, he traced it to under the blood-soaked material and quickly ripped it open, revealing a mass of wires and packs of brownish plastic.

Otter grins, and rasps:

“And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.” With the last of his strength, he lunges forward onto Carthrat, and there is a rocketing explosion. All are knocked back by the force and shrapnel, and the two disappear in a burning white light…

<--->

OTTER, Hunter (Human, Self-Aligned Bomb (Single use Kevlar)) has been killed!

CARTHRAT, Camarilla Ventrue Prince, (Kindred, Town-aligned Daykill Vigilante) has met Final Death!

<--->

Day Phase 1 of Elysium will resume 1pm Friday and will meet deadline at 2:30pm Saturday (+11 hours time zone). That is, 21 hours from now and 46.5 hours from now respectively. I will make an announcement when we resume, please do not post before that time.
Please wait in the foyer while we clean up the mess, and be sure not to mention any of our business publically lest the kine overhear.

GM Note:
I’m going to give Oblivion Knight the next 12 or so hours to contact me, then I’ll start looking for a replacement.

Edit: Times reduced by 3 hours, after Alex made a good suggestion.

Ok, the game reopens in just under an hour; I'm just letting everybody know that Yakumo is replacing OblivionKnight.
A big thankyou to Yakumo on this one!
This is the /third/ player I've had to replace. It's getting tiring, and from this point on I won't hesitate to modkill (because finding any more replacements will be virtually impossible).

I'm really sorry for the game pause, but I feel it was worth it now that we have a replacement. I'll post up a post-count as soon as the game begins.
Note: Any votes made after Rat's ##Kill were not counted (as the clock had already stopped). So you may wish to recast them.

Right, now that the cleaners have made the room habitable once again, we can make some sense of this mess. I have no idea how that witchhunter got in here, and it must not be allowed to happen again. It seems we have a high turnover rate for Princes, but Carthrat's noble sacrifice has not been in vain; we have removed one of the spies quickly, our progress has been swift and just. I know that we are past the halfway point now and dawn approaches, but there is yet some more time for discussion and voting. Please keep in mind though that a resolution must be reached before dawn, otherwise we will be forced to return to our havens without coming to a decision.

The voting tally still looks roughly the same; only a few minor changes...

El Cideon (0): Carthrat, IHateThisCPU, Sir Alex, Otter
Excal (0): Shale
Smodge13 (0): QuietRain, Corwin
QuietRain (0): Lady Door
Ciato (0): El Cideon
VerySlightlyMad (2): Otter, Carthrat, Smodge13, Drac
AndrewRogue (0): Excal, QuietRain
Otter (5): Corwin, El Cideon, Ciato, Sir Alex, AndrewRogue, Carthrat
Corwin (0): Sir Alex, Excal
Sir Alex (5): VerySlightlyMad, Anonymous, Lady Door, Excal, AndrewRogue, QuietRain, Corwin
Yakumo (0): Carthrat, Carthrat, AndrewRogue, QuietRain, Otter, Excal
Drac (0): Smodge13, QuietRain, Corwin, Otter
Lady Door (0): Carthrat

(Yakumo has replaced OblivionKnight)
A number of 7 is now required for majority.

Day Phase 1 will end 2:30pm Satuday. (25.5 hours remain)
I'm allowing a second extention, 4 votes are required to extend the game by 12 hours. No more time extensions will be allowed past this point. Same voting rules apply as earlier. There will be no lynch unless majority vote is reached before deadline. No exceptions.

Alex is at -2 to lynch.

<The game has now resumed. Have fun & happy hunting!>
