VtM:M - Vampire the Masquerade Mafia
« on: February 05, 2008, 01:58:18 AM »
VAMPIRE: THE MASQUERADE
Mafia Edition

You're greeted by a smartly dressed bellboy who welcomes you formally, pushes aside the red velvet curtain and asking you to follow him. Behind lies a well lit narrow passage, cramped by fine paintings with ornate frames and antique vases on stands. The polished wooden floorboards end and a white marble stairway leads down into a large hall; red leather armchairs and coffee-tables lie spaced around hand-woven persian carpets. Overhead, a large chandelier has been refitted with powerful electric lighting and white LEDs, flooding the cavernous lounge with an unnaturally contrasting light. Two caterers, a young man and woman, serve refreshments from steel decanters. Some guests politely refuse, while others eagerly gorge themselves on second and third glasses. After several minutes, a man holding a notepad steps into the centre of the room and clears his throat, preparing to address all those assembled. The crowd gathered numbers approximately fifteen people; all are finely dressed, though the attire of some is a little out of date. The chatter drops to a murmur and then silence as all turn towards the speaker.

Ladies and gentleman, I thank you for joining me in Elysium tonight. First, may I introduce myself as EvilTom, Tribune and voice of the Dux. I trust you all received my letter bearing the unfortunate news of last night's... incident. However, I assure you that there is no need for alarm; chaos and disorder are our greatest enemies, and we shall not allow ourselves to succumb to them, or the Sabbat will have achieved their goal. To bring about order, the Dux has appointed some of you to positions of authority; to prevent such information leaking to our foes, identities have been kept secret for the present. I'm sure that those with offices will make announcements in due time, but until that point you may rest assured that a Prince has been officially granted domain.

To summarize our current position, an unknown number of Sabbat ghouls have infiltrated our ranks of the Camarilla. They may be amongst us right now. These meetings have been called so that we may come together and report our findings in order to quickly and efficiently find those responsible for last night's murder and hold them accountable. I need not remind you of the sixth and final tradition that 'Thou art forbidden to destroy another of thy kind. The right of destruction belongeth only to thine Elder'; the ex-Prince's murderers have broken one of the fundamental laws of our society, and the penatly for this transgression is Final Death.

You are all to use any resource at your disposal to find the culprits and they are to be dealt with immediately. There can be no room for error, and we will meet here again each night until they have all been dealt with. Please submit all evidence and findings gathered so that you all may vote upon it and determine the truth. I wish you good luck and bid you good night.

----

Notes:
Town = Camarilla ('good' vampires)
Mafia = Sabbat (ghouls and 'evil' vampires)

+ Day Phase 1 will last 48 hours
+ Subsequent day phases will last 72 hours
+ Votes for extension of 24 hours will be allowed and granted on popular basis
+ Majority vote for lynch must be reached otherwise there will not be a lynch
+ Kilgamayan is the Co-Mod

Rules
- No editing your posts.
- No talking outside the thread unless your role specifically states that you may.
- No posting during game Night Phase.
- No spectator posts with content.
- Do not directly quote your role PM or conversations with the mod. Paraphrase is okay. Check with me before posting if you're unsure.
- There may or may not be third parties with separate win conditions from the town/mafia.
- There are no players or parties that would cause the game to end Day 1 or Night 1.
- Don't try to cheat or break the game in any way. Use common sense.
- PLAY TO WIN. Failure to at least put in an effort ruins the game for everyone else. Playing poorly is fine, and to an extent expected, but sabotaging your side deliberately or through massive apathy will get you modkilled.
- Please try to at least post a paragraph or two of useful content every 24 hours or so.
- You do not need to post "in character" or do anything special regarding flavor. If you want to, it's fine, but it may complicate the game or accidentally give away your role, which is generally bad.
- Individual players may have "hidden" abilities that were not included in their role PM, but can be revealed by certain events happening in the game. Additionally, there may or may not be 'scripted sequences' of events that may change the rules of the game or do other things if certain events happen.

Thanks for Shale and Ciato for filling in, even though they're burnt out on Mafia ^_^

Greetings, fellow kindred! It's my pleasure to welcome you all to Elysium once again. I trust you'll all be in attendance over the following nights- should you fail to present yourself, that will be taken as admission of guilt. Likewise, attending but not participating is most rude, and punishiable by Final Death. This should come as no surprise to any of you- we've already heard about what happens in domains where the silent go unpunished. Please, participate to your utmost!

I am the newly elected Prince of the City, and as such, I have the power to Kill You. I see no reason to avoid exercising this power as frequently as I am able, which would amount to once per night. By culling the weaker and less competent members of our race, we will surely purge ourselves of the Sabbat scum lurking amongst us, who are naturally of inferior stock and frequently possess less than ten fingers.

Therefore! Halfway through this night, I will declare a blood hunt on the worst amongst us! Take care not to be this person. Naturally, we will proceed with our scheduled executions closer to dawn, as has already been decided. Should there be confusion in who is to be slain, I shall default to the one who has been less talkative.

I wish you all a good evening! Please do bother to cast votes for easy record-keeping, but don't prematurely set upon tonight's accused. Allow me to give the word.

And I believe the word shall be given on... ##Vote: El Cideon. Why do I point to this kindred? It's simple, really. The 'El' indicates that he could be from Spain. And I do so *loathe* Spaniards. Were it not for their fervent grasp of the Inquisition, our kind could indeed have been spared centuries of torment.

so yeah I'm roleclaiming daykill vig in my first post, lolz, and yes, I've had this written up since I got the PM

Ooooooooo.....kay. So, two lynches per day....night...thing? Works. Any preference for how to do this, mechanically speaking? Highest votegetter at the halfway mark? Separate vote system?

The fellow with the highest number of votes will be our default candidate; if there is a tie, the fellow who has my vote will be the one destroyed. I'd like people to actually vote because it's easier to keep track, and presents secondary candidates for discussion in the remainder of the day.

I intend to be rather harsh about my timing with this. If you want an extension, get it before the halfway point. The Tribune, with his powers of Modulatus, will surely be able to extend the night.

Okay, you're the prince.

That said, if that's how you're playing it we have 24 hours to a hard deadline. Let's get cracking, people!

##Vote Excal. A Kindred who goes by the name of a holy weapon? Sounds suspicious to me.

Hello and JOYOUS good evening my fellows!  I'm absolutely thrilled you all could make it to my gala bash.  I-

*turns around and argues with thin air for a minute quietly*

Oh.  Pardon.  Wrong room.  But as this looks infinitely better prepared than my own ghouls devised, I think I'd rather just stay.

Now, evil Sabbat you say?  Hmmm.  Can't have that, now can we?  Nosirnosir.  They simply must go.  And as such, I cast down my Holy Vote upon an Infidel!

##Vote The Pictureless Wonder.  He hides his face from us.  What's to trust, I say!

Hey! Don't insult the decorative veggie.

Also, do you mean the man with no avatar at all, the man who claims to be a (faceless!) cake, or someone else whose picture (or lack of) I can't recall? You've confused the Time Lord.

I believe Smodge is our avatarless wonder. It's probably him that QR's referring to. Unless she's a Malkavian talking about some imaginary person she saw waving to her from a parallel dimension, of course. Or, could it be that...she's pretending to be a crazy person to throw us off?!

Possible.

However, Rat's day one claim is a more pressing issue. "Elected" Prince, eh? I don't recall voting for you! You mean, of course, that your secret cabal of murderers elected you, do you not? That's a critical error you've made there! ...Maybe. We will, of course, wait to see your power manifest before passing judgement. Using it in some fashion that is not in accord with the majority's decision will make things go quite badly for you, of course, but you'd realize that and act accordingly regardless of which side you were on. So suffice it to say that the claim does not make you inherently trustworthy...but it does make you warrant exclusion from the initial salvo. So, instead I shall

##Vote: Ciato

Because she's not here yet and she should be! Also, a vampire from another world? She's got her work cut out for her, if she wants to prove herself loyal to us!

...Wait.

Dayvig is a power that gives the town two lynches. It is best to use this power as early and often as possible. I'm forced to claim when I use the power anyway, so there'd be no hiding it at that point. Rather than pull a CK and just kill someone out of nowhere, I decided to be up-front.

Good answer!  Thank you.

You seem set on performing your daily kills halfway through each day (24 hours in, then...) but I'm not quite sure of who you're going to be killing.  Just the person you find most suspicious?  Whoever has the most votes?  Do clarify.  I agree that giving the town two lynches is a great idea, but it's only really a second lynch if we're voting on it.  If it's just you, well, the thing is that scum could have a dayvig too.  Your alignment isn't known to us.  But if you're a tool of the town, it doesn't -matter- what your allegiances are, it only matters how the votes are placed, and if you disregard the votes after the fact theeen your jig is probably up.  I think you can see why this arrangement is preferable for the town.

TOTAL CLARIFICATION PROCEEDS

I will lynch whoever has the most votes at the halfway mark- or, at least, as soon as I can *after* it passes (I'll never lynch before it, let's put it that way. I admit that I'm open to discussion on when, exactly, I should kill someone, but the purpose behind being firm here is that I want to kill someone every day, and it's best if we have some time to act on the new information. As I said, I have no problems with people requesting extensions if they want more time to discuss things.) If the votes are tied I'll pick whichever guy I think is the most suspicious.

Exceptional circumstances could easily occur and throw a wrench into my plans, but this is my game plan. I don't plan to use the lynch autocratically, if that is what you're worried about.

I, for one, am glad to see that we have at our head a Prince who is both timely in his responces, and firm in his actions.  A strong hand at the head is precisely what we need at this time in order to stave off the anarchy no doubt longed for by those foul Sabbat.

As for the person who has seen fit to question my loyalty, I have but two replies.  To those who are undying, what guarantee do you have that I have named myself after the blade, and not that it has taken its name from me?  And also, that blade, like so many other things, were claimed by the Christians in their attempts to convince the celts that they worshipped the same god under a different guise.  Though, given the trying circumstances, I shall not hold your flighty nature against you.  Ones first reaction is rarely ever ones finest moment.

That said, erstwhile Prince, may I direct your attention, and that of Elysium as well by this.

##Vote: Andrew Rogue

Indeed, his very name suggests a disdain for the princedom, as well as potential leanings to the Anarch cause, if not full fledged allegiance to the Sabbat itself.  As well, despite the gravity of the matter, he has yet to say a word.  Well, to you good sir, I call upon thee to be heard and to deny thy roguish nature!

##Vote: Otter for his apparent lack of comprehension of more than one post explaining our apparent Prince's intentions.

Yay dayvig, second lynch, etc, I'm always down with that. Hate for roles showing up from the start, but eh. In this case Rat's right about needing to use the power as much as possible from the start rather than letting it go to waste, it just foreshadows role madness as we proceed. I suppose we'll see.

Ahem. Ladies and gentlemen, I have taken the liberty of preparing a voting record for you. I shall display the running tally at regular intervals or after a number of votes, whichever comes first. My assistant Kilgamayan will do the same in my absence.

El Cideon (1): Carthrat
Excal (1): Shale
Smodge13 (1): QuietRain
QuietRain (1): Lady Door
Ciato (1): El Cideon
VerySlightlyMad (1): Otter
Andrew Rogue (1): Excal
Otter (1): Corwin

A number of 8 are required for majority.
Five votes for '##Time Extension' will be enough to grant an extra 24 hours, and '##Against Extension' will veto a vote.

I am now fully satisfied by Rat's answers.  My apologies, dear Corwin, if you find me too rigorous, but more exacting information never hurt anybody.  I am completely complicit with Rat's plan and agree that it is a valuable double-lynch for town as it stands.  However, this means we need to hurry, 'cause we've got two very short mini-days per day to handle now.

My jokevote on VSM remains because I know he's been around tonight and he hasn't said anything yet.  That's pretty much it so far.  With our doubled firepower, we can knock out lurkers twice as fast and I contend that we should do so.

Whelp.  If I had a pint for every time a new Prince said he wasn't going to act autocratically, I'd never see Kine again, but as far as whacking shovelheads goes, I trust this Rat fellow.

Odd but welcome that Otter's talking off the bat.

So we need to get cracking pretty fast here, our day deadlines are more or less chopped in half.  The Prince got the first word in, so every vote must needs be counted as at least semi-serious.

LadyDoor, I've known quite a few Malks in my time, and they really aren't that hard to talk to.  If a little crazy talk is all it takes to confuse you, I must confess a lack of faith in your ability to detect shovelhead-speak.

Vote: Smodge

A.  One of Smodge and Tom always makes things crazy, and I'd rather it not be Tom here.
B.  QR hinted towards him without actually voting for him, and this intrigues me enough to take the bait.
C.  Got to be scum SOMETIME.

S'all I've got for a serious vote at the moment, I reckon this will be changing but wanted to throw something out to start off with.

EDIT for ninja votecount as I type.  So that DOES count as a serious vote from Rain?  That's a little unsettling, if only for the sake of proper formatting.

With that out...

##Vote: Corwin

AS A REMINDER: if we don't reach a clear majority by the time 24 hours are up, we're not making the best use of our daykill lynch.  If we don't reach a majority (aka HAMMER) by the end of the day, we don't get a regular lynch.  Think it's early to be calling out lurkers 5 hours in?  We don't have the luxury of waiting around, unfortunately, and the good news is that if a call-out vote gets a good substantial response, it can be dropped immediately.  The point is, time is of the essence and we can't afford a forgiving attitude in that regard.
