Yeah.  If you want people to actually pay attention to the topic, how about something most of the DL will have seen instead of some pet obscura anime?

It involves drilling and ridiculous sunglasses. That's about all there is to it.

...I don't know if you're pretending to be /m/ and trolling this thread or what.

It even has villains named after DNA-bases.

It has some seriously epic battle scenes near the end. SERIOUSLY. EPIC. Picture galaxies being thrown like shuriken by robots.

Trolling the thread like what now?

Anyway, I'm just saying it's probably a bad idea to start off a thread that thrives on people paying attention to it with a anime whatever that a fair deal of us probably haven't watched.  Then I was also saying that Tengen Toppa Grurgghlangg sounds like throwing up at the Dentist's which it does.

Yeah guys you should totally know this anime show that hasn't been released on DVD so can only air on specific channels or be picked up on VCR from a company that has since gone under!

Get some culture guys.

Lots of people have seen TTGL, including people who aren't normally mecha fans, so it probably seemed like a safe bet. Honestly I'd have thought that at least 2/3 the people here had seen it, at least among regular anime watchers.

Anyways I suck at casting so I won't join in. Someone do please at least cast me as someone. Even if it's eternal whipping boy Viral ;_;

Nononono, the people that have seen TTGL are just likely to circle jerk about it long enough to think everyone has seen it.  It is still a niche anime with a limited release that is a bitch for your average consumer to get their hands on.

Ah. I've probably just been on 4chan too much lately then. I've also seen the DVDs in FYE pretty much anywhere they stock anime.

It was on Sci Fi during their Ani-Monday block last summer. Plus. Dude. THE INTERNET. C'mon now.

That said, I haven't actually seen more than an episode or two of it.

It re-aired earlier this summer too. But yeah.

Two things:

1. While the portion of the DL that watches anime regularly might be larger than most other websites, this does not mean that everyone here does.  I have no idea what portion, but I'd bet that the combination of people who don't watch anime regularly and who only watch what is easily accessible/edging on mainstream is going to be a sizeable portion.

2. It's a pretty easy thing to do to get into obscura and forget that not everybody is into it.  It's true with music, it's true with books, it's true with television, and it's especially true in the land of near-autistic obsessive compulsive savants better known as "anime fans*."  Just because you a few other people have watched it does not mean others have.

*Alternately, gamers, but that sort of behavour is excusable here because it is a forum dedicated to a niche market of games that likes to focus on even more niche subsections of those games.  This is not an anime forum, not everyone here has that shared interest to the point where a casting topic of Tgugghl;hr leggnangnnn is going to elicit much attention.

AFTERTHOUGHT:  "That said I haven't actually seen more than an episode or two of it."  QED.

The main point is that only a very small amount of DLers actually watch anime regularly, and even less of them bothered with Gurren Lagann, so that particular casting is an exercise in futility.

EDIT: I'd personally just politely ask CK to think of something more accessible if he actually wants responses, which I'm pretty sure he does. TTGL just isn't going to get the attention he intends.

Obviously anime is a futile endeavor for a topic of this sort outside of maybe Dragon Ball Z.

Not really.  There are a few anime out there that have become popular in certain circles in the DL.  Tglhaldkfj lglafkk;jgjg  isn't one of them.  Simple as that.  If you can't see any in between from Dragon Ball Z through to recent barely available you-have-to-be-really-an-active-and-big-anime-fan-to-know-it then you have a huuuuuge perspective problem, Indie Anime Boy.

Anyway, seconding the request for a new series.  Perhaps a RPG?  It seems like we play a lot of those.  Maybe you know someone will pay attention then.

Tears.

Seriously anime is fucking fine, just get some perspective.  You would have more luck with Code Gay Arse: The Conquests of Le Douche and Zero the Mystical Black Knights and Horrible Plot Twists than Gurren Lagann.

IT WAS ON TV!  ON CABLE!  ON SCI FI CHANNEL! TWICE! is you know, limited release.  Just if you wanted to something fairly contemporary.  Sure it was shit and horrible, but it was huge in the scope of the medium, a lot of people watched it and you know it was actually fucking accessible (played more than twice on a channel that is pretty much the go to place for mainstream anime and is actually widely available on other formats).

Okay, dropping the failed attempts at humor.

Just... just start over OK. With something like Code Geass... or... something.
