I can't stand anything deconstructive that doesn't propose an alternate methodology- like Hume-ian skepticism replacing cause and effect logic with belief in observable systems. It's intellectual nihilism at worst and mental regurgitation at best.

That is the thing, ideological constructs aren't -meant- to give you an answer, if they give you an answer then they are going into things with presuppositions.  They are meant to be frameworks for considering things and then drawing conclusions from them rather than handing you the answer up front.

They are an intellectual wank because they make you exercise your intellectual pursuit rather than just viewing things from a single limited perspective ala neo-Marxism.  I strongly support the Marxist outlook, but I don't think the source of all struggle in all areas of everything springs from economics.

That said Structuralism is like a million times more useful in Sociology than it is for any goddamned thing else I can think of (Literary studies for serious?  Fuck that, Freud would be more use there than Structuralism and that isn't saying much).

This is why gambling is for suckers.

So today was the Belmont Stakes, last of the Triple Crown. Me and my family usually pick some horses and do a Trifecta (pick 3 horses, they have to get first, second, and third in any order). So I look at the horses and pick Da'Tara, a 38-1, worst odds in the race, terrible pole position, but I liked the look of the horse and his bloodline. My dad picks Macho Again, a 17-1, my grandmother picked a 7-2, Denis of Cork. My sister wanted the odds-on favorite, Big Brown, who was going at 4-1 and seemed likely to be the first Triple Crown winner in almost 30 years.

Dad goes to the casino(can't gamble legally for another 16 days), gets his ticket, and then we wait until the race. My horse gets in first almost immediately and goes the entire distance, winning the Belmont. Grandma's is in second. Dad's was in third until way late, and Big Brown fades and doesn't even place. It was a dead heat for third.

That means I was about a horse's nose from winning 3 thousand dollars. Son of a BITCH!

Edit-And if my dad put a win ticket on Da'Mara like he does sometimes I would have won 700 dollars. MotherFUCKER.

Don't think of it as a novel. Think of it as a chance to retroactively win every argument you have ever walked away from.

Hey, it could be worse.  It could be hot and humid 92 degrees while your wet carpet smells like a tropical jungle AND you have giant ants in the laundry.

Had a fun as hell night tonight. My friend Justin's birthday, he invited all the strange and different groups of people that are his friends into one massive 20 person gathering. Amongst them were the voice of Dean Venture and one of the Whitest Kids U Know (the guy from Supersize Me! (With Whiskey). Surprising we all got along well.

Afterwards some of us went out to kareoke. I survived with a decent rendition of Wonderwall as well as Stranger than Fiction (Bad Religion) and a subpar Piano Man (I also tried to play Clint Eastwood from Gorillaz, but the version they had was a remix). Some classics in there. I found it ironic Journey was played and I laughed my ass off as I sang about that small town girl with everyone else. Some anime songs as well, mostly old stuff like the theme from Galaxy Express 999 and DNA^2. Couldn't keep up with the kana (no romanji). Mostly stayed out after about halfway... Until the final song. Final Countdown. Much laughter, and me and this guy with a really good voice ended up with the mikes. I... finally found a song I can sing well! I thought he was carrying it until I noticed he'd stopped singing. Good end of the night.

pics or it didn't happen.

I've seen one bar fight before and I was holding a beer bottle in self-defense, but I didn't have to use it.  I guess it's probably because the fighters were all women. >_>

It's not like I threw it. I knocked an empty off a second-story balcony and then when I heard yelling, I ran like a bitch.

Got a phone call this afternoon from the US Air Force Academy saying that they received word that I had been selected to join the US Air Force JAG Corps. I'll get the official letter sometime later this week.

Needless to say, today was an awesome day.

Well done ID.  It has been great seeing someone come as far as you have ever since I first back and forthed with you on deconstructing BoF III plot on Gamefaqs boards.

So yeah I got my hair cut for the first time in years and my first real haircut (as opposed to getting split ends trimmed off) since I shaved my head.  So no hair down to the middle of my back at DL Con.  I would like to avoid the some of the bother of travelling with it long again and it certainly will be easier to keep it clean.

So one hour before our staff meeting thing at work, and my boss is all like oh you have to present your material today~ A lot of the stuff I have been doing is incomplete because I have been running all my tests instead of working up data between tests because that's more efficient >_> so now I am trying to hurry together and get some information and slides for my presentation this afternoon. Good times.
