GL15 acquired.  New larger mousepad also.  G5 comes in on Tuesday hopefully.  Good times.  About time I got a decent gaming keyboard and mouse.  Now I just need to get a desk and chair that are good as well.

Ha, ha, ha!  I just discovered that I have both a GBA emulator and the Mother 3 ROM on my flash drive!

Ha, ha, ha!  I also just discovered that there's a very strict "no games" policy on the public computers here.  Fuck.  I need something.  KoL isn't cutting it anymore.

To hell with anyone who says that videogames aren't addictive.

So I wake up this morning, play video games.  I head to the computer to retrieve 1x FAQ and am told my mom had called sometime that morning and apparently my granddad had been taken to a hospital in Marquette due to chest pains.  No, not sure why no one woke me up for this, although he'd had heart problems before and made it to the hospital, so probably nothing to worry about.
A while later my mom calls back to let me know that they gave him a stint, he's in recovery, she and her sister are going up to see him this week.  So that's as good as can be expected.

But before that, my sister (who moved to Florida right before summer started) called.  She wasn't sure if I knew about grandpa (which probably says something about my family and our efficency), but since I had she just talked a bit.  Eventually she rather roundaboutly got around to saying she was pregnant.  Now, from how she said it I gather that basically her boyfriend and our mom know about this and she probably only found out recently herself, making this an exceptionally rare case of me actually knowing what the hell's going on in the family.  Otherwise dunno how to feel about this, but it certainly seals the day as an unusual one...

Stuffing my face full for lunch today, as I'm having dental surgery later and this'll likely be my only chance to eat today. I'm also focusing on how tasty the food is(eggs and corned beef hash. Yum.) because getting put under for the surgery scares the crap out of me. >_<

Anyway, today I moved. I realized I have a lot of shit. Partially because it took all goddamn day.

You aren't supposed to eat for a number of hours before getting put under yeah >.> I usually don't eat before getting a local either. What I usually do is go get the dental surgery done, go home, go to sleep and wake up feeling better. Then I go have something to eat, what depending on which side of the mouth the surgery was done on. Basically I'm just not supposed to drink really hot/cold drinks, that's about it.

That's interesting Commander. Congratulations on the niece/nephew and hope your grandpa feels better soon. My grandpa has a lot of health problems as well. It worries one, it does.

I did not know that, actually. However, it was a moot point as it turns out my teeth were accesible enough to just do the work with a local instead of the general. Sixteen shots in my mouth later, he managed to pull all 4 teeth without needing to actually cut me open or anything.

I still feel like shit right now, mind you. But that's to be expected after having 4 teeth yanked and such.

I still had Tylenol w/Codine from the dentist's scrip on Tuesday, so I'm just using that. It's working well enough, at least.

You're not actually supposed to take the drugs.  Straight asprin works fine enough, and if not you deal with the pain, because you can make a huge profit just selling the pills to idiots.

Well, given the fact that that profit probably will be meaningless after a couple months maybe not.

My friends and I made these dishes for a school project. The ingredients we also bought ourselves at a market. It wasn't too expensive, and we did it at someone else's house. Well, one of my friends' cousin's place. I'd say it looks pretty nice given we did that in a little over two hours. We spent some more time after that doing mandatory cleaning, of course. The ride back was also without a hitch, so I'd say today was a BIG SUCCESS.

So today my students decided they wanted an English slogan to advertise their upcoming play around town. Since there are quite a few foreigners in the target area, they were worried that they would end up with weird-sounding Engrish and came to me. The term they were desperately trying to translate was 'kandougeki' which is made up of the words 'kandou' and the Japanese term for 'play'.

Now you wouldn't think translating 'kandou' would be that hard - after all, there's an English phrase that has equivalent meaning, specifically: 'to be moved' as if watching a really great movie that brings you to tears or makes your heart flutter or what not.

However, 'A Moving Play' just wasn't good enough as a slogan. 'A Play That Will Move You' sounded alright to my English ears, but the students thought it was too long for their Japanese audience. They wanted a single word to describe all that is 'kandou' (and still make sense in the slogan).

Now think for a moment the myriad of different ways you could describe a movie that has moved you. Terms like 'impressive', 'dramatic', 'tear-jerker', 'speechless', 'fulfillment', and 'excitement' were tossed around between me and the Japanese teacher who teaches English with me. The Japanese teacher eventually described 'kandou' as something the Japanese people say when they have such strong feelings but no words. Of course, 'breathless' and 'speechless' didn't cut it either.

I eventually settled on 'compelling' - for while the emotion is minutely different, it was an easy enough adjective to explain and it sounded natural enough to my English ears. 'A Compelling Play'.

It works, for all that 'Compelling' isn't really describing an emotion so much as the fact that YOU WILL BE COMPELLED to feel that emotion. But then... it sounds like 'kandou' is somewhat similar.

So my G5 finally got here today.  Only 5 days later than I wanted it, but whatever.  It is a nice mouse with variable weights if I want to fiddle with it.  Just threw in everything heaviest and figure I will work down from there.  I will probably need to play a shooter to get a feel for the laser instead of the optical mouse I am used to, but it is nice and comfortable, variable sensitivity buttons on the mouse itself is neat.  Just have to train my thumb to be back and forward instead of my ring finger since I am used to an Intelli Mouse (which I still highly reccomend to regular consumers and casual gamers.  Microsoft Intelli mouse is one of the best around).

So the Law and Order people are here setting up the shoot. Hopefully I'll get to meet Jeff Goldblum, but apparantly there's gonna be thirty extras here in addition to the crew. Not a big theater lobbywise (though we seat 282), so it should be interesting.

Amazing, I got a call from our Rentals person to tell me that the L&O people were on the way over, and she said that The Apprentice was also interested in filming at the theater today, but they found somewhere else. Our little theater is becoming quite popular.

Colorado finally finalized bar exam results and posted them on the Colorado Supreme Court's website.

I was on the pass list, along with 94% of the first time exam takers from the University of Colorado Law School. That's a seriously high pass rate, right there.

So glad that is over and done with.
