Update time!
Added Radiant Historia at a low 9. Kind of waffling between 8 and 9.
This, but for me, the waffling ended up with it at an 8/10. I'm not really sure -why- it's not quite as high as Chrono Trigger/Phantasy Star 4 (which are certainly similar!) but I've been reflecting over the last week and it being an 8 rather than a 9 just feels right. Maybe the way the game handled its PC cast availability just rubs me the wrong way a bit. I will probably continue to chew on this and it could change.
(Radiant Historia added at 8/10, in case it's not clear.)
Tactics Ogre gets a 7/10. Solid stuff. It's pretty close to Fire Emblem 6 for a reason, both have stories which are at least palatable with one or two shining moments (though not much more) and gameplay which is good but mired with a little clunkiness. TO's the better game though because while "all classes at Level 1 initial" is stupid, it's not nearly as stupid as how FE6 handles reinforcements.
Grandia 3 up to 9/10. With every passing year its story bothers me less, while the "holy shit this gameplay is good" factor remains. Let's just come out and say it: this game has a strong, strong case to have the best gameplay in any non-strategy RPG ever, and its only competition in this regard to me is up at the 10/10 tier. Wild Arms 3, meanwhile, falls to 8/10, because like RH, I don't think it's really quite good enough at any one thing to hang out at 9, and it doesn't feel quite as complete in that "just genuinely enjoyable throughout" factor that CT/PS4 have.
Mana Khemia 2 down to 6/10. Really wish Ulrika's path could have maintained the funny. Seeing how it doesn't and realising that the gameplay isn't good enough to really justify the 7 by itself (too easy + bosses are too rare), yeah, down it goes a little. Still above 1 for now, though.
Final Fantasy 5 hasn't changed numerically but I did push it up a lot. I realised that I had been unconsciously thinking of it as my third favourite (numbered) FF for a while, but my RPG Ratings weren't reflecting this! Yeah, its gameplay edge beats out FF7's story edge to me these days. After some thought I decided the correction mostly needed to be made to FF5, although FF7 did fall a little.
