Actually, the only instance of plagiarism here is Shale--Grefter used a quote, and Tai paraphrased enough that it's not _really_ plagiarism.

Way back when I was in high school, the English dept. distributed a pamphlet entitled, "A special message from the English Department on the dangers of plagiarism."  Next week, the literary magazine distributed a pamphlet entitled "A special message from the Reflections on the dangers of plagiarism," which was, of course, the same thing, copied without permission or attribution.  Ah, the good old days.

I'm not sure how to take this. There can't be that big of a market for this, so it must be Suda51's newest elaborate practical joke. Right?

Interesting article comparing Phoenix Wright games to Japan's legal system.

Huh.  I figured that Japan's legal system was certainly different than the US's, but kinda chalked up the courtroom antics in PW to 1) a device to make you sympathize more with/struggle more as (since it is a vijiagame) Phoenix, and 2) it being PW which is a very fluffy game.  I'm not that surprised to see that there's a real world basis for the dynamics between people in the PW legal system, though I'm surprised at how closely the real world basis comes to mirroring PW's take on it.

99% conviction rate?  That's seriously fucked up.  In the US, it's about 80%.  That may seem high, but given that prosecutors tend only to prosecute people they think they can convict, it's to be expected that it would skew pretty far in that direction.

Man claims he hasn't eaten or drunk in 70 years.  Doctors observe him for two weeks, during which he doesn't eat, drink, or go to the bathroom.

EDIT:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1274779/The-man-says-eaten-drunk-70-years-Why-eminent-doctors-taking-seriously.html

And here's a link with more skepticism, claiming that the hospital in question has a history of not releasing their evidence or allowing independent verification.

Yeah. Thats been going aroud for the past month or so. Interesting if both true or false, if only because it'd be a really elaborate and successful hoax. The first article I saw about it was amusing, since it contained a quote from a Pakistani official talking about potential military applications for it. Good to know Supersoldier projects aren't passe.

What weirds me out is that I saw two internet news sources that presented it as a credible scientific study (that one, and this msn video) that presented this as a purely scientific study.

Of all possible news sources, it's the freaking daily mail that points out "actually, there's a group of critics who say this doctor never lets anyone observe or independently verify his studies, and he's claimed stuff like this several times before."
