Wrong topic, IotD for godblock is over thataway.

Oh, please.  You people and your oversensitivity to mocking religion.

Replace godblock with athiest block, and it's just as stupid.

Personally I took it as satire for similar measure on the religious/conservative side.

I was expecting it to be a conservative religious one considering the name.

Also because Metroid is known for her militant Aetheism right?

Edit - Of course it is dopey, but it is 2010 and it is an internet filter.  It isn't anywhere close to IotD material.

Edit 2 - Which is of course why it is funny.

Edit 3 - Also joke about penises.

I took it as mocking internet filters/censorship myself. I didn't find it half as funny as it was obviously intended to be, but nor was it offensive at all.

Replace godblock with athiest block, and it's just as stupid.

Way to miss the fucking point.  It's a satire on firewalls designed to keep children from seeing inappropriate material, which hey is probably marketed to/distributed by people who like to think of themselves in the "moral majority."  Religious people, in other words.

I'll admit that it's not really that funny, but seriously.  Be less of a sissy, will you?

To my lack of credit, I missed that it was humor till I doublechecked the site.  It also isn't funny, so hey.

And yet The Silver Lining was actually released this week. Still free.

I don't know what the hell happened there.

Tool Assisted Speed Run of Brain Age for the DS, but not in a way you expect.

That was awesome.

Re Godblock: That site fails due to totally failing to be funny, because I've totally seen such sentiments from overly earnest atheists.  It'd be like republishing a Pat Robertson tract.  If this is what some people *actually say* then you need to add some hyperbole, or more generally figure out the maximum ridiculousness you can achieve while still maintaining superficial plausibility.

EXCUSE TO GO SOMEWHERE ELSE IN THIS CONVERSATION: Reminds me vaguely of an online debate which I once watched out of...  madness?  Boredom?  Unsure.  It was between "The Way of the Master" (sadly, not Christian Kung Fu, but Kirk Cameron's weird missionary program based on the tools of -Jesus himself-) and the "Rational Response Squad" who are apparently atheist firestarters.  Now, I wasn't expecting much out of The Way of the Master folks - I saw the Left Behind movies and they were hilarious comedy and more generally they aren't really intellectual style debaters.  They're more "Look God gave us the Bible so SHAPE UP or die in hell" types.  However, the RRS managed to fail it up MORE in the parts I watched which was shocking to me.  The debate was theoretically on "Does God exist?" without relying on a holy books / divine inspiration argument.  The Way of the Master people of course brought up the Bible and the Ten Commandments in their opening statement, which I can't really fault them for - "This is where we're coming from, not hanging out argument on this, but if you want the truth you need to realize you're a sinner" etc.  Shockingly enough, the RRS practically threw a fit about this, and not in a good way either.  No graceful verbal judo of questioning about other religion's inspirations or anything, they played the part of the atheist screaming "No!  How dare you bring up the Ten Commandments!  I can't stand for God giving me laws!  Nooooo!"  Shortly thereafter I got bored and stopped watching but yeah, fail all around.  (Not to mention that one of the RRS debaters refused to be identified.  Yes this will not make you look suspicious at a PUBLIC DEBATE BEING POSTED ON THE INTERNET sigh.)

To be fair on the "subpar character" comment, Zangeif has an advantaged matchup against Rufus, and Justin Wong stuck with Rufus:

True, Zangief is a natural counter to Rufus.  But Wong is supposed to be, you know, better than the matchup.

For the most part, the people who were supposed to win first place did.  But the overall level of competition and innovation was staggering in these tournaments.  Even in a 10-year-old game like Marvel versus Capcom 2, a guy got 3rd place with a team featuring Strider and Dr. Doom.

It was a wonderful weekend of sitting on my ass in front of the computer watching the stream and not sleeping.

There were some bits on the stream that sucked, but overall it was pretty awesome.

Nobody remembers Shaba Games closing. ;_; (or the fact that several people from Shaba got transferred to other studios that Activision closed three months later...like me!)

That show "World War 2" is so ridiculously unbelievable.  Seriously, do the writers know anything about maintaining credibility in their plot or characters?

People who don't realize "Band of Brothers" has already come out and WW2 programming has had its final word already aren't interested in facts.

Sporcle has posted a 90-track video game music test. Have fun.

I got 38 out of 90, which...isn't bad, I guess. Naturally, I'm kicking myself for missing several that I should have known.

I fail for missing 8:53-9:00. I kept saying, "Wait, what? They already used FFT."

44/90, though I can't tell yet which ones I really should have gotten since it won't show more than one of the ones I missed.  :'(

20/90.  Actually saw this through Reddit and came here to post it but oh well.  The only ones I missed from games I've played were FFIX, Mass Effect (lol ME music), and Mario Kart Double Dash.  On the other hand, I got Persona 4 and Sonic 3 on pure guesses,  Mario Galaxy and FFT as guesses for other games, and Wild ARMs and Halo from the start because I figured they'd be on the list.  Either way, my score's a bit shit but I haven't played most of the games on the list.

30/90. Got most of those by going "Hey, there'll probably be a ___ game in there" and adding a few numbers on the end. Still, quite happy that I recognised Kid Icarus and Pikmin, amongst others.
Also, had to go through YouTube for the video because the one on the page didn't want to work - looks like there are about 5 of these for games, as well as several movie/TV/music ones. Might have to try some of those when I have more time...

24/90, though some of those were "lets type in random game names during songs I don't recognize".

The one that kills me which I absolutely should have gotten is Professor Layton.  I knew 100% that I recognized the music, knew it was a DS game, but kept thinking it was Advance Wars Days of Ruin (sounds similar to the creeper music).

On the other hand, there were games I've played where I just didn't recognize the music at all (Pikmin, Harvest Moon, Ristar, Golden Axe).  A few pieces I knew I recognized, just not from where (Kid Icarus, Ghouls and Ghosts).  I feel dumb for not guessing Guilty Gear, Tekken #, or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (since while I didn't recognize the piece in particular, I should have clued in on the easily recognizable style of music).  And I was totally 100% convinced that the Street Fighter Alpha clip was Valkyrie Profile music, or at least something from Tri-Ace >_>

27/90.  nice quiz!  very well-put together.
Rocky: you do know what an A-bomb is, right?
Bullwinkle: A-bomb is what some people call our show!
Rocky: I don't think that's very funny...
Bullwinkle: Neither do they, apparently!
