Yeah. Saw that. Debated posting the hoax, but it's always hard to tell if people read some of this stuff anyway.

Interesting study: know the whole argument that people should keep guns in the home to protect against home invasion?  Turns out that keeping a gun around is statistically linked to higher homicide/suicide rates of the home's occupants; go figure.

Old news really, but good to see it reconfirmed. Escalating your own threat level may make it less likely for you to be robbed (IIRC this hasn't been shown conclusively though) but certainly raises your chances of being killed. It's pretty much the same reason bank clerks are trained to cooperate with robbers instead of pulling out a gun on them.

Erwin Schrödinger will kill you like a cat in a box.
Maybe.

Trivia game is fun.  I keep missing too many answers because of not including the full title or not spelling it correctly though.  Kind of irritating, that.  Haven't broken 10000 yet in part because of that.  I mean, you get credit for "Mario Kart" for MK64, but not "Bomberman" for Super Bomberman?  Really?

http://kotaku.com/5621786/final-fantasy-xivs-play+limiting-fatigue-system-explained

Final Fantasy 14's developers have to have the game ready in like a month. You know what they don't have? Any end-game content whatsoever.

The solution? If you play for more than the "theoretical XP value of" 8 hours a week, you start getting less and less XP. Eventually you start getting nothing at all.

Have I mentioned you pay monthly for this?

Honestly?  Don't see a problem with it.  MMO's are far far to favourable to mass grinding, it DOES effect the community and warp it in pretty horrible shocking ways that are poisonous and bad for the game as a long term lasting endeavour.  Things like this are good to see in the games, it does tragically however open up the MMO genre to even more people because it is accessible.

The fact that you have to artificially create this kind of balancing act is one of my key criticisms of the genre however.

Edit - And you can do MMOs without much/any end game content.  City of Heroes is still chugging along and it has never really had it.  You make the journey the game instead of the level capped content.  It is a much smaller market though.
NO MORE POKEMON - Meeplelard.
The king perfect of the DL is and always will be Excal. - Superaielman
Don't worry, just jam it in anyway. - SirAlex
Gravellers are like, G-Unit - Trancey.

I wouldn't mind it if I paid by the hour. But you don't. It's an artificial gate to keep people paying longer before they reach the end and realize there's nothing there. Look at STO.

I agree that grinding is a massive problem with MMOs.  Watching Mark play FF11 is fucking mind numbing sometimes.

This is trying to solve the problem in the wrong way, though.

Or just go the route of the free MMOs - make grinding so boring that you *want* to buy your gear with real money instead.

And now, a lesson in "if you can't beat em, join em!"
