Huh. It sounded so overproduced I figured they were just major chords
Hmm...your gut reaction might have been somewhat right; after I posted that, I found this on wikipedia:
The chords follow in this order, G♯m—E—F♯—G♯m—E—F♯.
So...I guess there are chords that the piano version never bothered with. (Side note of interest: the G# chord is minor. That actually makes sense to me; the G2#, D3, G3# sequence is pretty prominent, and in the key of B-major you flat out can't add a note to make that a major chord, but you can add a note to make that a minor chord. Or rather, not without playing a note outside of the B-major key, which according to the piano sheet music, pokerface NEVER does -_-).
Anyway, trying to objectively analyze something as subjective as how "good" music is is an exercise in futility I'm not even willing to indulge in, so I'll leave that topic alone from now.
Actually, when it comes right down to it I had no particular desire to prove anything in this debate. I just wanted an excuse to debate about music, as more and more my job is becoming music focused, and my music knowledge is rusty.
Well, that, and I find this brand of music snobishness silly. If I'm allowed to like a Daft Punk song because the DJ did a good job with composition, then I should be allowed to like a Britney Spears song because the DJ did a good job with composition. And (unlike Gaga) I'll happily admit that Britney has no talent.
