Redoing the season schedule part two: Now with polling.
« on: January 13, 2010, 09:16:00 PM »
http://www.rpgdl.com/forums/index.php?topic=4483.0

Is the previous topic. There's also some talk about this in Hal's stickied topic.Thoughts?

Quote
Possible season layout

Week 1- 4 matches per division
Week 2- 4 matches per division
Week 3- 2 matches per division, the people who won in week 1
Week 4- 2 matches per division, the people who won in week 2
Week 5- The old week 4
Week 6- Finals+Nom pools go up with a theorical way to tie it to the site.
Week 7-NR week+upgrades/downgrades. NR week is 1-4 NR matches that we put on the main site, plus whatever we do with upgrade/downgrades.

We have only one week that is a 'surprise' ahead of time, and that's finals and half of week 5.

Is the lineup.
---

I obviously support this, since it'll be less strain on the writers.

"This week has no required writing" becomes untrue if we change the upgrade/downgrade system. Does this affect anything? I suggest we address this before putting this to a final poll.

No, it was just stating that we were killing the team match. Whatever we decide with the reranking system is going to be very light on the writeup front regardless.

Eh.  You say that but that's just your opinion, the option that seems to be winning currently for reranking would put several writeups during rerank week as well.

Cmdr's one or Elfboy's? It'll be relatively light compared to a normal week regardless, but yeah. I'm not so concerned about the last week as much as splitting up the pain of week 3.

Elfboy's idea would make two new matches per division border, and since they're essentially seeded even though we would know the participants ahead of time we wouldn't know who's fighting whom, so it's basically 6 matches on one day's notice.

Cmdr's is even worse on the workload overall, since his way would require 3 matches per division border, though three of them would be known from week one so the same number of one-day writeups.

Either way, we've still got a week that, with your new setup, would be the heaviest one-day workload we've got.  Weeks 5 and 6 will have four total matches that need to be written on one day's notice.  Both of these would have six.

Just reiterating what I said in the other topic. If we're sticking to the NR idea, then I would suggest we just stick to the current system of upgrading/downgrading, or maybe switch to Dhyer's 4 match tables with the two lowest ranked losing duellers and two winners to cut down on the overall matches people need to vote on. It's a time of big change in the DL, but not all changes are absolutely necessary and they need to be weighed against the other changes being made. In the interest of keeping the workload down, I think that this is one of them that can stay the same.

I'm fine with this schedule, but I'm with Soppy about how upgrades/downgrades need to eschew writeups if we're going to make this change.

If upgrades/downgrades get writeups, then I'd prefer we leave the schedule as is and add a 7th week 'break week' and that's where we'll put NR exhibition matches.

This second method -does- mean 7 weeks of writeups, though... >.>;;

The point of changing reranking is that the way it stands, very few people care about it at all.  It's a slog to go through and vote on even when I don't bother thinking too hard about any of the matches.  It's one of the things that needs changing the most, IMO.  This is a discussion for the other topic, though.

With the stipulation that I'm not sure what's going on reranking week, I support splitting week 3, yes.

Okay... so we're splitting Week  3... how do we actually implement this? Is it just a switch that Hal presses?

We get hal to redo some code, mostly. We're doing something to the final week one way or the other so that will have to be changed as well.
