Redoing the rerankings: final poll
« on: January 22, 2010, 11:47:50 PM »
This is pretty much a condensed form of http://www.rpgdl.com/forums/index.php/topic,4485.0.html. The frontrunning idea for a change is still "two one-on-one matches, times three division borders, with writeups" for rerank week. Yes, this creates more work by making a new work week (between the old week 4 and week 5 in terms of work required). On the other hand, supporters of the idea claim it will generate a lot more interest and keep rerank week from being such a dud with casual voters.

Vote away!

I love the old system, but the lack of interest in doing round robin votes for downgrades means it is time to change.

I agree that we need to change it, but I'm not a fan of only having to win one match against a higher division performance. If I understand the proposal correcty then it would be the champ and the runner up against one of the losers of the higher division with the champ and runner up upgrading if they win and the loser downgrading if they lose both. This seems as though it would result in either two people upgrading and one downgrading or one upgrading and no one downgrading. I think this system would work best if we added another person that they had to beat so that the champ and runner up would have to beat 2 of 3 to upgrade.

Mmm? No, it's the champ goes against the numerically lowest ranked person to lose in round 1, and the runner up goes against the second lowest ranked.

Why don't we just have them go up against both then? I understand that writeups are a concern, but we can structure the writeups differently for the rerank week. In the other topic I suggested a slightly larger writeup that would be used to describe the whole division.

That was the much less popular of the two ideas that got floated (it only got 2 votes). The final poll is only for the two most popular options (change to the duels or no change). Sorry the idea you supported didn't make it on, but at this point you just have to choose which option appeals to you more.

The alternate version that got 2 votes was also first brought up after the majority of votes were cast in the old topic anyways. If wasn't like it was a noted option from the beginning and only got 2 votes despite that.

Besides, it was Dhyer's idea of a 4-person Round Robin (defenders selected in the same way as Elfboy's method; and no writeups) that had the votes... unless the first vote was for something else entirely.  I know I voted for Dhyer on this...

I'm fine with changing the system. But hell no to more writeups.

I'll once again add that -the adding of writeups in this week isn't exactly necessary either- if that's an issue. I honestly also ain't entirely enamored with the idea of having the last week of the season being more work than the finals either (the amount of matches still > the amount of matches in finals), but there's no real pressing reason for why these particular matches must have writeups either (it just seems to have gone that way due to writeups just generally being things we do on individual matches when we're not lining up like three dozens of them per division in a single week). I'm not even sure that's an issue besides a short-term interest that I'm not even sure is there. Make the matches within horizontal rows and brackets and vote away if there needs to be a formatting difference. I won't say no to this if it is decided in favor of having those writeups, mind, but I felt like pointing out they're more a commodity than an actual point.

I am in support of this - just doing one basic write-up for both combatants (instead of an individual one for each) works fine for this - that's the same amount of work as finals, then, unless my famously horrible math skills are kicking in (2 person*1writeup/person*4divisions = 8 write-ups; 4 person*1writeup/2person*4divisions = 8 write-ups)

I actually like the round robin idea well enough as well. I am fine with anything proposed as long as it isn't the current system, which is godawful.

Round Robin idea just leads to me voting on a far too casual level without actually thinking about matches too hard, where as this style feels like I'd actually care slightly more about who wins.

So yeah, change.

No, my vote was also for the alternate method. So yeah, I would like to see the actual different options come up for vote since this is effectively the same poll as the last topic. I think at the very least there is some consensus that there needs to be a change.

Change it ...

But do it in a way more reasonable and better.
