DL Playership Drive- Winter 2010
« on: February 04, 2010, 03:49:24 AM »
Having achieved mild success with the first incarnation of this topic, and having gone through the ranking process, it's time for a more coherent, planned out version of the DL Playership Drive.  This topic will, ideally, take us through to early-mid summer, keeping ranking topics well stocked and spreading the wealth of good games around.

The format is the same as before.  You will make Two Lists of the games provided.  One will be the games you have already played (partial playthroughs will be counted as already playing the game).  The other will be, in order of willingness to play, the remainder.  If you feel the need to divide games further in this second list (for example, "Willing to play" "cannot play" and "unwilling to play") they will still be counted and weighed in the order listed.

Important Notes.

1. If you cannot play a game, play mark it as (Cannot Play)
2. If you feel you would not support ranking a game, please mark it (DNR)
3.  If you are uncertain of a game's rankability, but not enough so to outright DNR it, please make a note of it!  Some games included in this topic are here specifically to generate discussion of its' overall rankability, so we may more conclusively move on with pushing them for ranking or dismiss them from future topics.
4. For games with mutliple versions, Please note the version you have played.  Even if you have played each version, note it as such.

Preamble done.  And now... the list!

Mana Khemia 2: Fall of Alchemy (PS2)
Tales of Vesperia (360)
Mother 3 (GBAj)
Dragon Quest V/Hand of the Heavenly Bride (Super Famicom/DS)
Star Ocean/First Departure (Super Famicom /PSP)
Suikoden Tierkreis (DS)
Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume (DS)
The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road (DS)
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (Wii)
Soul Nomad & The World Eaters (PS2)
Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice (PS3)
Valkyria Chronicles (PS3)
Revelations: Persona/Shin Megami Tensei: Pesona (PS1/PSP)
Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation (GBA)
Eternal Sonata (360/PS3)
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Xbox/PC)

I will announce when I begin the tallying process.  This will probably take place in a week, give or take a few days.  The topic will continue on after that to arrange loans, continue rankability discussion, and the like.

Played:
Mana Khemia 2: Fall of Alchemy (PS2)
Soul Nomad & The World Eaters (PS2)
Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice (PS3)
Valkyria Chronicles (PS3)
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Xbox/PC) (played PC version)
Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation (GBA) (DNR) (dur dur rank robots)
Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume (DS)

Interested in playing:
1) The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road (DS)
2) Eternal Sonata (360/PS3)

Skipping because the system sucks:
3) Tales of Vesperia (360)
4) Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (Wii)
5) Star Ocean/First Departure (Super Famicom /PSP)

Skipping because the game sucks:
6) Revelations: Persona/Shin Megami Tensei: Pesona (PS1/PSP)
7) Suikoden Tierkreis (DS)
8) Dragon Quest V/Hand of the Heavenly Bride (Super Famicom/DS)
9) Mother 3 (GBAj)

Note that all the games in category 3 are at least somewhat interesting - there's nothing that's both PSP/360/Wii only AND shit.

Played:
1. Tales of Vesperia (360) (LARGE SUPPORT FOR THIS CAST, they are the most fun Tales duelists yet)
2. Soul Nomad (PS2) (Great game, but the duelists could be more interesting)
3. Valkyrie Profile DS (Support ranking the core cast and the final bosses)
4. Star Ocean (Famicom) (Kinda bland cast, and we already have all of SO2 ranked)
5. Revelations Persona (PSX) (We ranked Ellen, good enough! Rank more P2)
6. Eternal Sonata (360) (Sucks, but has one or two fun Duelists)

Partial Played:
Mother 3 (Not as interested in coming back to this as others down below)

Interested in playing:
1. Wizard of Oz DS (Can't buy in English) (Big fan of the original novels + small awesome duelling cast = winwinwin)
2. Disgaea 3 (PS3) (Can't play, no PS3) (The duelist probably aren't that thrilling either)
3. Mana Khemia 2 (PS2) (Can't buy in English) (Love me some anime tropes + intriguing setup/duelists)
4. Suikoden Tierkreis DS (Own it, next on my playlist after RW) (Story hype has me interested, but the duelists look meh)
5. Valkyria Chronicles (PS3) (Can't play, no PS3) (Looks awesome, lots of hype internal and external, a few of the major characters look like decent duelists)
6. Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (Wii) (Own it, can't seem to get started on it.) (Not much to say. More FE duelists~ But at least they're slowly becoming more unique)
7. Mother 3 (GBAj) (About here) (The duelists are a neat take on EB's cast, I guess)
8. Dragon Quest V/Hand of the Heavenly Bride (Super Famicom/DS) (Really low on my priorities, for all that it makes a fine rank)

Interested, but probably will never play:
9. Star Wars KOTOR

Die in a fire:
99. Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation (GBA)

Wizard of oz. (LOL they made an RPG of this)

I dunno, I always thought the story really lent itself to an RPG. It's a fantasy world with a clear map, colorful character archetypes with very individualized skills and weaknesses, and magic abounds! I can't think of another non-Tolkien story that would make a better RPG foundation.

Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume (DS)

Soul Nomad & The World Eaters (PS2)
Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation (GBA)

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Xbox/PC) - PC Version
Revelations: Persona/Shin Megami Tensei: Pesona (PS1/PSP) - Played the PS1 version a looooong time ago, own the PSP version now but haven't played much.

Note I have not sorted this in order of interest. Note that I'd support any game that garnered the internal support and the smidge of external interest necessary for ranking unless strictly stated otherwise.

Played

Mana Khemia 2: Fall of Alchemy (PS2)
Dragon Quest V/Hand of the Heavenly Bride (Super Famicom)
Star Ocean (Super Famicom)
Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume (DS) [Very limited ranking if we do rank this. VPDS fails it up fierce in rankability smoothness due to splitpath nature shit, Wylfred interp splits and uninteresting duellers not in the mage class]
The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road (DS)
Soul Nomad & The World Eaters (PS2) [Still entirely unsold on this as a ranking idea]
Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation (GBA) [Even worse than Soul Nomad as a ranking possibility. Also played both GBA and PS2 versions, but PS2 version is 100% irrelevant for this topic's purposes]

Can't Play But Would If I Could

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (Wii)
Tales of Vesperia (360)
Valkyria Chronicles (PS3) [This game does -not- sound like a DL-friendly game in mechanical respects at all. If it makes a good, strong showing, I'd say pass, but it's certainly nowhere near that as it stands]

Could Play But Don't Care

Suikoden Tierkreis (DS)
Mother 3 (GBAj) [Does this even have playership?]
Revelations: Persona (PS1) [Why bother? P1r is unlikely to garner much interest to get the rest of the cast ranked]
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Xbox/PC) [This has to overcome the typical PC game in the DL issues first. Then we'll talk. This sorta falls under the non-mentioned category, but I generally feel PC game is a non-trivial burden to carry]
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride (DS)

Can't Play And Don't Care

Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice (PS3)
Eternal Sonata (360/PS3)
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona (PSP)
Star Ocean First Departure (PSP)

Mana Khemia 2: Fall of Alchemy (PS2) (Raze path, but meh, enough to vote on.)
Tales of Vesperia (360)
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride (DS)
Star Ocean: First Departure (PSP)
Suikoden Tierkreis (DS)
Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume (DS)
The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road (DS) (in progress)
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (Wii)
Soul Nomad & The World Eaters (PS2)
Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice (PS3)
Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation (GBA)
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Xbox)

Un-Played

1. Revelations: Persona/Shin Megami Tensei: Pesona (PS1/PSP)
2. Valkyria Chronicles (PS3) (I'll need to buy a PS3 here, hence P1 finishing higher)
3. Mother 3 (GBAj)
4. Eternal Sonata (360/PS3) (I am not paying $25 for this game.)

Played:
Soul Nomad & The World Eaters (PS2) (Great game.  Question is DL value.  Reyva's either high-tier or broken, the World Eaters are an interpretation pain to boot as well)
Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice (PS3) (Single-console issues aside, this is probably the best Disgaea for DL purposes.  Clear proficiencies and unique character traits, sometimes quirky ones at that.)
Valkyria Chronicles (PS3)
Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation (GBA)

Can Play (within 6 months or so):
Mana Khemia 2: Fall of Alchemy (PS2) (Give me $40, and I should be able to play it)
Star Ocean/First Departure (Super Famicom /PSP) (ROM would be pretty hard to find here, I think, but I could get the SNES version)
Mother 3 (GBAj) (Eh.  Playable, possibly, but iffy.  Not sure if I'd like this or not, given how I kind of got bored of the first EB)

Can't Play:
Suikoden Tierkreis (DS)
Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume (DS)
The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road (DS)
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (Wii)
Tales of Vesperia (360)

Won't Play:
Eternal Sonata (360/PS3) - I can be convinced on this.  It sounds like it's something one would end up suffering through, though.
Dragon Quest V/Hand of the Heavenly Bride (Super Famicom/DS) - Eh.  Dragon Quest and I typically do not mix.
Revelations: Persona/Shin Megami Tensei: Pesona (PS1/PSP) - Ick.  First person dungeons.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Xbox/PC) - Iffy about this, frankly.
<+Nama-EmblemOfFire> ...Have the GhebFE guy and the ostian princess guy collaborate.
 <@Elecman> Seems reasonable.

All are ordered.

Played
Mana Khemia 2: Fall of Alchemy (PS2) - All paths, obviously.  Definitely support for ranking.
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (Wii) - Yep.  Also definitely support ranking.
Suikoden Tierkreis (DS) - Definitely support ranking.
Revelations: Persona/Shin Megami Tensei: Pesona (PS1/PSP) - PS1 version, partial PSP (will likely finished if this comes up).  Definitely support ranking.  We need more MARK DANCED CRAZY.
Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation (GBA) - Both GBA and PS2 versions.  Do support ranking, but not as much as the above two.
Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice (PS3) - Same as above.
Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume (DS) - Meh.
Tales of Vesperia (360) - Don't know if I'd DNR but really apathetic to ranking.
Star Ocean/First Departure (Super Famicom /PSP) - SNES version, partial PSP (will likely finished if this comes up).  Don't know if I'd DNR but really apathetic to ranking.
Soul Nomad & The World Eaters (PS2) - Same as above I guess.

Partial
The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road (DS) - Need to finish this.  Would probably support ranking.
Dragon Quest V/Hand of the Heavenly Bride (Super Famicom/DS) - Partial on SNES version, nothing on DS.  DQ, so completely apathetic to ranking.
Eternal Sonata (360/PS3) - Whatever.  Would need to play more of this to see how I'd feel about ranking it.  But that involves getting a copy somehow.
Valkyria Chronicles (PS3) - Total DNR.

Haven't played, probably will, apathy on ranking
Mother 3 (GBAj) - Don't care.  I guess I could get it easily but whatever.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Xbox/PC) - Seems close to DNR bait, but I actually haven't played it.  Don't have a copy, so odds of playing it are fairly low.

The result of non reading fantasy. There are an absolute hoard of them that fit far better than Wizard of Oz (Hell, I say that David Eddings book are basically RPG plot in a book form, which isn't good obviously).

Played
Mana Khemia 2: Fall of Alchemy (PS2)
Suikoden Tiekreis
VP: CotS
Star Ocean 1 (PSP Version only)
Soul Nomad
Persona 1

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (Wii)
Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation (GBA)
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Xbox/PC)

Haven't played
1. Wizard of Oz DS (Don't own, but that's easily rectified)
2. Tales of Vesperia (Plan on buying a 360 soon)
3. Dragon Quest 5 (I own it. And it's not first!)
4. Mother 3. Could actually happen now.
5. Valkyrie Chronicles (At this point, we are getting way out there. I have no specific plans to buy a PS 3 soon)
6. Disgaea 3
7. Fire Emblem 10 (And likely never plan on buying a Wii)
8. Eternal Sonata (Ugh at this point. I saw an hour of this game, and the characters were atrocious. Could be higher, but hell no to ever ranking this.
9. Star Wars: KoToR (Not  categorically opposed to it, except I don't think it would appeal to me?)
10. Super Robot (This appeals even less. Hatred of robots in RPGs+Hatred of micromanaging)

Played:
Mana Khemia 2 (almost done with Ulrika path...need to do Raze afterward)
Tales of Vesperia (360 version...not PS3)
Dragon Quest 5 (SNES version only)
Star Ocean (SNES version only)
Valkyrie Profile DS (yay!  It is awesome!)
Wizard of Oz (RANK THIS)
Fire Emblem 10 (RANK THIS)
Soul Nomad (RANK THIS)
Valkyria Chronicles (RANK THIS)
Persona 1 (original only...but there's no differences in terms of anything except the SQQ, which I've played in Japanese)
SRWOG
Eternal Sonata (360 version only)
SWKotOR (and KotOR 2, which is badass)

Will Play (with great interest):
Mother 3 (Need to grab the rom, but do intend to play it when I have some free time)
Disgaea 3 (Need to get a new PS3 for my current apartment)

Will Play (with some interest, not exceptionally high):
Suikoden Tierkris (eh....)

Will Play (but not high on the list, since I've played the original):
Dragon Quest 5 (DS version...some time)
Star Ocean (PSP version...some time)

I think every game is rankable in some vein.  Order of Focus for the top 5 games to me (the ones I feel are the strongest on this list):

1) Mana Khemia 2 (sequel to a popular game, is actually decent on playership this early, has a lot of hype)
2) Dragon Quest 5 (relatively new, popular, will ride on some DQ8/DQ4 hype, the second most common system here)
3) Fire Emblem 10 (sequel, blah blah blah, rides a bit on FE9, but next gen system, still has enough playership now to make pushing it sensible)
4) Wizard of Oz (new game, familiar source material, system people like and have)
5) Persona 1 (on the most common system here, not much difference between the two versions, rides a bit on P3/4, has decent playership now, even)

Played:
1. Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (Wii) - Seriously, I'm disappointed in Super for hating this idea so much. It's without a doubt the best FE for duelists and it's a seriously popular game amongst those who have played it internally as well as being possibly the best here for external draw - 'possibly' because of KotoR.
2. Mother 3 (GBAj) - YES. This game is just... so memorable. It would be brilliant for ranking based on that alone, and would have some really interesting duelists in there as well. And a monkey too!
3. Dragon Quest V/Hand of the Heavenly Bride (Super Famicom/DS) - DS version. Near the start of it, but it seems like a damn good ranking idea so far. This says a lot about the two games above this.

Unplayed:
1. Mana Khemia 2: Fall of Alchemy (PS2) - From what little I've played of MK1, it seems like it's almost perfect for the DL, and from what I've heard, this is pretty similar in that sense. Only problem at the moment is the lack of writers, and that'll probably not be much of a problem in the long run. Expecting this to be ranked in the next ranking period.
2. Revelations: Persona/Shin Megami Tensei: Pesona (PS1/PSP) - It's me voting on MegaTen. That pretty much says it all.
3. The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road (DS) - Other than the trainwreck of turns, everything I've heard about this makes it sound AWESOME for the DL. And it'd have a good external draw, right?! (Also, STRAWMAN.)
4. Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice (PS3) - Disgaea's done well enough in the DL, for all that I think it's a trainwreck to vote on. This one sounds even more confusing, but seems popular enough amongst those who've played it.
5. Eternal Sonata (360/PS3) - Admittedly, don't know too much on this one, but enough to place it. Seems like a pretty unpopular RPG, but a good one as far as the DL goes. That's about all I can say.
6. Tales of Vesperia (360) - UGH. Trainwreck. Outside of that, I guess it's mostly fine? Seems like the Tales series isn't all that popular in the DL, though.
7. Suikoden Tierkreis (DS) - ahahahahaha Tierkreis. I know I'm never going towards this, and I doubt I ever will.
8. Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume (DS) - See above, but Suikos are generally more popular than VPs.
9. Star Ocean/First Departure (Super Famicom /PSP) - See ToV and SuikoDS together.

Can't Comment: - Don't know enough about these games to place them. Might look 'em up if pestered, but ehh, effort.
Soul Nomad & The World Eaters (PS2)
Valkyria Chronicles (PS3)
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Xbox/PC)
Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation (GBA)

Topic needs more SMTN. ;o

Played:

1. Valkyria Chronicals- DNR. Love the game, but not really a DL title.
2. Dragon Quest 5
3. Soul Nomad- Went over the issues last time, nothing has changed.
4. Disgaea 3 (Partial, don't have system access/game any more)- Needs way more playership to have a prayer.
5. Persona 1 (PSX)- Very unlikely. Nate/Ellen have never showed enough to merit ranking more for the game.
6. Eternal Sonata (Partial)- This'll never happen.

Interested in:

1. SO1- Quick and portable. I'll play this when as I find my copy.
2. ToV- I have access now, just not a high priority.
3. MK2- This sounds like a much weaker ranking idea than MK1. Oddly meh for playership for a sequal to a fairly successful/well liked game here too. This needs some whipping.
4. WoO- Neat system on paper. I'll borrow a copy sometime or pick it up cheap.
5. VPDS- I admit, all the debate on the game has gotten me interested. There's a copy around the house too.

Not interested:

6. Suikoden DS- Doesn't sound like a strong DL idea. I may play it sometime.
7. KotoR- It getting a playership spike SIX years after it got some ranking hype is pretty funny, but it isn't a game that ever really interested me. Not much of a Star Wars fan.
8. FE10- Yoshi: I don't hate it persay, but I am going to shoot down any idea with the poor writer's/meh internal that FE10 has. I probably could borrow a Wii and play this, but not too interested myself. Let me talk after FE9.
9. SRW- Never really captured my interest. It also goes without saying, but DNR here.
10. Mother 3- *Torch*

layed:

Damn Super.  I can't believe you did it with a bunch of CDs.  And Eternal Sonata of all of them!  Methinks you're suppressing a slight...hidden...desire...for Mr Snail?

I can't think of a reply that isn't completely obscene and off topic, so I'll just correct the typo and kick you in the face. *Kick*

Played/In Progress:
Mana Khemia 2: Fall of Alchemy (PS2)
Tales of Vesperia (360)
Mother 3 (GBAj)
Dragon Quest V/Hand of the Heavenly Bride (Super Famicom/DS)
Star Ocean/First Departure (Super Famicom /PSP)
Suikoden Tierkreis (DS)
Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume (DS)
The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road (DS)
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (Wii)
Soul Nomad & The World Eaters (PS2)
Revelations: Persona/Shin Megami Tensei: Pesona (PS1/PSP)
Pokemon D/P (Adding this because it seems like it should be included in the list)

Could Play:
Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation (GBA)

Can't Play:
Eternal Sonata (360/PS3)
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Xbox/PC)
Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice (PS3)
Valkyria Chronicles (PS3)

Notes: DQ5 definately seems like the best ranking idea in the future. I don't know how many people have played MK:2, but that could also be a solid rank since MK was fairly popular. I want to say that Soul Nomad has fairly strong numbers, but it's still an interp mess. While I have played Suikoden Tierkis and Star Ocean First Departure, I haven't got very far into them and would probably only finish them if they become a serious ranking consideration. I'm not really sure where all the Mother 3 antihype is coming from, I can understand the whole emulation situation, but that didn't stop us from ranking SD3. I'd definately recommend playing it if you're able to get hold of it. Even if you don't like the EB games it's pretty short and the duellers are interesting and worth ranking. I'm also going to reccomend the Wizard of Oz game. I think it still should be fairly easy to find and it's a fun little fluff game with very interesting duellers.

Have played, ordered by how much I respect as a ranking idea

1. Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (Wii): To some extent I agree with Yoshi? The game has problems, but damn, the external spoke up this ranking period (it wasn't far from making phase 2 despite many of its core internal fans not supporting it). If there's a game that I think a conscious effort should be made to -make work-, it is this.
2. Mana Khemia 2: Fall of Alchemy (PS2): Splitpath stuff is a concern, but in general I think it has potential within the group. And it's for the right system.
3. Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume (DS): Splitpath shenanigans and the main having a large interpsplit kinda sours me on this as a ranking idea, though if the playership picked up you could excuse some of this.
4. Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation (GBA): Do not rank this.

Haven't played...
... but defintely intend to

1. The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road (DS): Will absolutely play if I find it, or if anyone lends me a copy. Sounds fun.
2. Suikoden Tierkreis (DS): I like Suikoden, so playing this seems like a good idea to me.

... but I might, at some point. Maybe

3. Soul Nomad & The World Eaters (PS2): Still sounds like a bad ranking idea, though. N1 + OB style game sounds bad, but other aspects of the game sound fresh and creative, so I'll consider it.
4. Dragon Quest V/Hand of the Heavenly Bride (Super Famicom/DS): I have no access to it and can't see this changing. It sounds enjoyable enough but not really worth the money. If someone lends it to me at DLcon or something I may play it sometime within the next year, though.
5. Star Ocean/First Departure (Super Famicom /PSP): Think this is a strictly worse idea than the above due to the version split. Also a bit less interested in it, despite it being more available.

... and find it unlikely that I will due to not having the system

1. Valkyria Chronicles (PS3): Sounds sexy though. Kurse you PS3.
2. Tales of Vesperia (360): Well at least it sounds like the best Tales game.
3. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Xbox/PC): What I've seen of the gameplay looked like crap. Pity, sounds like it may do some interesting things otherwise.
4. Eternal Sonata (360/PS3): Can't bring myself to care.

... and you'd have to pay me to play it

(alphabetical since uh they are all on the same tier to me)

Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice (PS3): Hahaha, good one. Man, wrong system + lukewarm reception from even Disgaea fans?
Mother 3 (GBAj): I didn't like EB much, so yeah. Also, GBAj? Really? Isn't FE6 a strictly better idea here? And FE6 isn't a good idea.
Revelations: Persona/Shin Megami Tensei: Pesona (PS1/PSP): If I'm playing a Persona game any time soon (which itself is immensely unlikely) it will not be this one.

Erwin Schrödinger will kill you like a cat in a box.
Maybe.

One way to make FE10 work is to write for the site! I really wouldn't mind ranking it, but if we put it on site tomorrow there would be major problems with just geting simple coverage on match results. Grab some writeups and give a hand, and it makes it much easier to rank.

Since people are interested, some reasoning behind why some games are, or are not, included.  I considered putting this in the first post, but felt it'd be cluttered.

Mana Khemia 2, Dragon Quest V, Star Ocean- I know, for a fact, that these games have picked up additional players since the previous topic.  So, checking up on their progress.  Mana Khemia 2 in particular did very well last time, and if things fall into place is a top contender for ranking the next time around.

Soul Nomad, SRW OG- These games have reasonably strong playership, but I'm curious how they fare on the rankability scale.  I'm hoping to get a good sense of whether they'd ever have a chance for real ranking from this topic.

Tales of Vesperia, Mother 3- Games have visible, dedicated fanbases.  I expect both to do poorly, but having some concrete numbers for their fans to see and work on would be beneficial.
ToV is additionally the token 360 game.  The only other game even remotely viable at that is Blue Dragon, but to my knowledge every Blue Dragon player has played ToV, but not the other way around.

Valkyria Chronicles, Disgaea 3- Token PS3 games.  I couldn't decide between the game I thought was better played, and the one I didn't think would get DNRed to oblivion, so I ran both and will let the gods deal with it.  If it wasn't obvious, also an experiment to see if VC will get DNRed to death.

Fire Emblem 10- Although I don't think the game got new players, what it did get was the third most nods in the ranking topic.  As such, I was uneasy just ignoring it, so here it is.

Suikoden Tierkreis, Valkyrie Profile DS- Games that, had I planned the last topic out more carefully, I would have included in that.  They're heirs to strong DL legacies and on the best of the modern systems, so getting  a feel for their chances is a good thing.

Wizard of Oz- Recently released media.vision game that some sectors of the DL are raving about.  Never seen that before.

Eternal Sonata- Token aiel fanservice.  Can it fail less than Xenosaga 3?

Persona 1- I mentioned, when asked about handheld rankings, this game and joked "it might finally improve enough to be rankable?!"  Then I thought, hey, it might.  So sure, why not.

Knights of the Old Republic- As super mentioned, game has gotten a playership surge out of nowhere.  I'm not convinced d20 games are terribly thrilling as DL concepts (and KotOR doesn't have as robust a spell/skill system as DnD, so it's even worse there), but I'm curious if that playership surge really hit the sort of folks that respond to DL topics.

And games that didn't get in.

Kingdom Hearts, Pokemon Gen 4- From the last topic, it feels clear to me that players isn't the problem with these games.  They're already at rankable, or near-rankable, status.  Just, they suffer apathy from the writer set, and are series prone to arguments about rankability to start with.  As such, spamming them at people seemed counterproductive, since it'd get annoying, and overall they need things this topic isn't meant to provide.

Xenosaga 3, Radiata Stories- Yeah.  These games have proved themselves gross failures.  They can go bye bye.

Suikoden Tactics, La Pucelle- Finished middle of the pack last time around.  They didn't pick up new players, so I figured their slots could go to other games this time.  They'll probably be back in the future.

SMT Nocturne, Phantom Brave- Their such marginal ranks to start with that (one rank?  Two?  Just produces few duellers), on the whole, I'm not inclined to spend time whipping people into them.

Blue Dragon- See above.

Star Ocean 4- I can think of two players of the game.  That's, uh, not a healthy start.
