In his life dedicated to the study of living things, there are probably things that Hugh could have done differently. Keeping himself in better shape is probably at or near the top of that list, especially considering his participation in the arena. However, what he wouldn't change is the various skills he has picked up along the way that make him both a blessing (and a curse) to all living things. Katarina may have his magic outclassed, but she still has neither the speed nor power to put him out in one shot, which gives him an opportunity to turn the tides with spells like Vol- and all you really need with Vol is one shot. Fortune willing, Hugh will find himself studying the upper branches of the tournament tree.
