Claude Kenni (SO2) vs Sharon (LoL2): Her speed is more standout than anything Claude has, and both are excellent fighters otherwise.
Kika (S4) vs Nina (BoF1): Nina1's pretty good, but is in a game with Ryu1 and Deis1. Hell, she has an argument to be only the 4th best PC. Kika's raw offence is dominant.

Middle:

Zidane Tribal (FF9) vs Lexis Shaia (Lufia 2): Mages in Lufia 2 good. Found Zidane pretty actively bad.
Alice Elliot (SH1) vs Crono (CT): Full MT healing > anything Crono brings.
Angelo (DQ8) vs Anna (MK1): More MT healing > unremarkable but speedy.

Tim Rhymeless (WA2) vs Guy (Lufia 2): Tim for Middle? Even if not, Random has it right.
Sue (G1) vs Kain Highwind (FF4): Sue generally tends towards LVPish while she's around. Kain's fine, endgame makes him look worse than he is and even then Jump gives him some respectability.

He starts with enough rune (350) to hold a Hydra plus two angels, and that alone is enough to solo most of the game. He can take two LLES and destroy absolutely anything in his way. It's a little silly.

Hero (DQ5) vs Alicia Melchiott (VC)- DQ5 without the hero would've been painful. Just solid the entire game.

Zemeckis (Brig) vs Knight (FF1NES) - ...bleh.  Zemeckis.  This is relatively challenging, here.  Knight...requires a good deal of money early to get good, whereas Zemeckis is strong early when he's most needed in a country where his support is vital.  Not sure either really are worthy of Godlike, but Knight can be replaced easier by a Master, for instance, whereas Zemeckis really can't
Yuna (FFX) vs Rena Lanford (SO2) - Rena.  Her support spells really mean a lot more than Yuna's do, and Aeons...they didn't feel like some super trump card I needed.  Rena's skills are pretty damn awesome.
Hero (DQ5) vs Alicia Melchiott (VC) - Hero.  Not much to say, really - Hero does most things well.

Heavy:

Levin Brenton (WA:XF) vs Cecil Harvey (FF4o/a) - Levin.  Cecil...just doesn't feel that important overall.  Kain works as well in his place, thanks to Jump and more speed.  Cecil felt like he was easy to replace.  Levin at least has some unique skills that really complement the class changes.
Alena (DQ4) vs Ike (FE9) - Alena.  Eh...AI biases a bit.
Claude Kenni (SO2) vs Sharon (LoL2) - Sharon.  Hot pirate.

Knight's gear is fairly cheap if you don't buy the steel armor and you get a hell of a large return on it considering how tanky he gets early. FF1 mages are the expensive units to level up considering how fast spells jump in prices; Knight almost always can use a sword found in a chest or a silver sword if you're splurging.

Silver Sword isn't really too affordable when you first get there (I assume what OK was referring to), but Knight can hack it without for a bit until you finish the Astos arc at which point you get access to swords which are similar to Silver anyway (or you can just buy it then). Regardless, earlygame Knight doesn't need weapons to dominate since the HP growth and better armour combine to be just stupid.

Zidane Tribal (FF9) vs Lexis Shaia (Lufia 2) - Zidane was close to LVP for me. Middling to poor offense throughout the game and the utility wasn't even good. His stealing wasn't even great (the stuff you can get is crazy good! The steal itself is inaccurate). I wanted to get rid of him so often that sometimes it felt like LoD.
Meru (LoD) vs Chie Satonaka (P4) - Mmmm. Meru kinda starts dominating once she gets going, and that doesn't take as long as it does with Chie.
Alice Elliot (SH1) vs Crono (CT) - Second-best cast PC vs. averagish PC.
Angelo (DQ8) vs Anna (MK1) - Angelo is kind of a Heavy, I think.

Heavy:

Levin Brenton (WA:XF) vs Cecil Harvey (FF4o/a) - Eh, I found Levin to be the lynchpin of my XF team pretty easily.  He's simultaneously the best mook slayer (decent damage, insane speed) and the best person to have vs. bosses (Cancel Strike) and the speed also works great with any kind of support abilities (Geomancer's hex switching vs. Goblins or warping, etc.).  Clarissa gives him a run for his money at #2 as the best for killing crap but Sacrifice is a bit dangerous and can backfire, while Levin doesn't have that issue.  He's even tanky enough that sending him charging out alone isn't really a problem in general.  Cecil's great but more Low Heavyish.

His MP matters in the ancient cave, and that's if you don't luck into absorb. In game? His MP score isn't great, but the game hands you MP restoration before every boss and even without that, you get Silver Mail around the time he joins, which you can use for IP MP healing on the off chance you need it.

Alena (DQ4) vs Ike (FE9)- Welll... Ike/Oscar wrecks the game, but while it's the simplest way it's not the only way.  Alena's crit nonsense, the metal slime killing it allows for, and at least in the NES version being AI proof mean she's far and away over the rest.

Red Turnip (Saga) vs Sergei (S1)- Hmmm.  Which path was Red Turnip again?  I know I didn't use him, but I'm uncertain if I could have or not.  Edit: Monster versus Orlouge?  Yeaah that'll work.

Heavy:

Levin Brenton (WA:XF) vs Cecil Harvey (FF4o/a) - I rate Levin highly but Cecil is just too much of a beefcake. 3x everyone elses Hp, massive defences, good elemental damage reduction and top it all of he has cover.
Cecil when I use him feels like a have a boss monster of my own taking all the hits for the party. Levin's good but replaceable at the end of the day and Cecil's sheer beefcake facter > Levin's damage.

Middle:

Angelo (DQ8) vs Anna (MK1) - Angelo has too much delicious healing that you need to consume. Anne has some crappy tricks and Physical immunity some alright damage.
Light:

Sue (G1) vs Kain Highwind (FF4)- Is around longe, not all that bad either.
