I think you know the drill by now. Copy the match ups below and bold which song you like better. The names are links to a stream of the song.

If there are any mistakes, please let me know ASAP so we can fix them.

I will put up a new pool every half week and they will all be open for a week as well. If enough people don't like this pace, I am willing to change the schedule, but let's roll with this and see how it goes.

Oh wow, non-obscura.

Xenogears - One who Bares Fangs at God VS. Final Fantasy X - To Zanarkand: Fangs is one of the weirdest final boss themes ever and I give it props for that, but tZ is just an emotional favourite from a game I care for greatly.
Dragon Quest VIII - Heavenly Flight VS. Final Fantasy VI - Terra: Terra is iconic. The DQ8 soundtrack doesn't do it for me.

Wild ARMs 4 - Critical Attack ~ Breaking Boundaries VS. Wild ARMs Alter Code: F - Windward Birds: I really like how Breaking Boundaries completely changes its tone about a middle and a half in. It's unexpected, and in-game gives a very different feel to those boss fights that go on long.
Chrono Trigger - Undersea Palace VS. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl - Battle with Palkia/Dialga: I generally do not like legendary battle themes in Pokemon; gym leaders, the mob team, and even regular trainers get much better pieces. Dialga/Palkia don't buck this trend. Undersea Palace is just wonderful at instilling that sense of unease... you hear it and you KNOW terrible things are about to happen.
Final Fantasy IX - Protecting my Devotion VS. Wild ARMs - A Moment of Tension (Lady Harken’s Theme): Devotion just has so much energy, it made me fall in love with a scene which objectively is trite and cliched. Harken... well, Murdering Princess would have made for a fight here.

Xenogears - One who Bares Fangs at God VS. Final Fantasy X - To Zanarkand- Easy call
Star Ocean 2 - Integral Body and Imperfect Soul VS. Persona 3 FES - Heartful Cry - Ditto
The Legend of Heroes Sora no Kiseki the 3rd - Sora wo Miagete VS. Persona 4 - Heaven - Still easy, but less so than the previous two.
Dragon Quest VIII - Heavenly Flight VS. Final Fantasy VI - Terra - The songs are pretty similar, but Terra edges it out.

Wild ARMs 4 - Critical Attack ~ Breaking Boundaries VS. Wild ARMs Alter Code: F - Windward Birds - Audiosurfing the winner of this one, cause I really like what both do. - Almost unfair, since they're two different sort of tracks. Critical Attack is faster and more challenging, but Windward Birds is a rare example of a good rising track. Still, gotta go with the challenge.
Revelations: Persona - Boss Battle VS. Kirby Super Star - Kirby Arrives of the Scene - Kirby is kinda fun but not all that good. Boss Battle is at least passable for the first round.
Chrono Trigger - Undersea Palace VS. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl - Battle with Palkia/Dialga -Not much to say here.
Final Fantasy IX - Protecting my Devotion VS. Wild ARMs - A Moment of Tension (Lady Harken’s Theme) - Not a great WA1o track. I can't even recall it being played when Harkan is on screen. It also plays as the Maze of Death is collapsing.

ANIME
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni - Higurashi no Naku Koro ni VS. Soul Eater - Paper Moon - As songs, they are not equal. As openings though, they almost are.
Starship Operators - Returning to Earth: On the Earth VS. Needless - Modern Strange Cowboy - Starship Operators is a very underrated show, but the ED never did much for me. Meanwhile, MSC is an awesome parody of every modern anime opening.

ARRANGED
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 - Ice Cap Zone 2 Remix VS. Seiken Densetsu 3 - Marina - Seiken Densetsu Arrange - Allegro Apassionato - Close, I like the Sonic one slightly more. Don't feel like Audiosurfing the winner since neither feel like good Audiosurf tracks.
Final Fantasy V - Azu♪ @ Mood Music - Break Big Bridge Battle VS. Zombie Ate my Neighbors - OCRemix - Zombies Ate My Neighbors 'Neighburgers' - More fun.

Chrono Trigger - Undersea Palace VS. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl - Battle with Palkia/Dialga - Undersea Palace does its job well, Palkia/Dialga Battle... not so much.
Final Fantasy IX - Protecting my Devotion VS. Wild ARMs - A Moment of Tension (Lady Harken’s Theme) - oh god it's a super generic tension track wow

Star Ocean 2 - Integral Body and Imperfect Soul VS. Persona 3 FES - Heartful Cry: Never been impressed by Heartful Cry. IBaIS might be a mess of Sakuraba keyboard-mashing, but damned if it doesn't sound like the end of the world.
The Legend of Heroes Sora no Kiseki the 3rd - Sora wo Miagete VS. Persona 4 - Heaven: Similar moods, this one's more focused.
Dragon Quest VIII - Heavenly Flight VS. Final Fantasy VI - Terra: Classic, better succeeds at Epic Quest mood.

Wild ARMs 4 - Critical Attack ~ Breaking Boundaries VS. Wild ARMs Alter Code: F - Windward Birds: Eh, wouldn't call either of these the franchise's best work. The Breaking Boundaries portion of the first song is okay, I guess.
Revelations: Persona - Boss Battle VS. Kirby Super Star - Kirby Arrives of the Scene: Pool scrubs sighted.
Chrono Trigger - Undersea Palace VS. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl - Battle with Palkia/Dialga: What the elf said. Although the Poketrack is actually better than I'd expected.
Final Fantasy IX - Protecting my Devotion VS. Wild ARMs - A Moment of Tension (Lady Harken’s Theme): I think Naruke didn't start being awesome until after WA1.

Xenogears - One who Bares Fangs at God VS. Final Fantasy X - To Zanarkand: Yeah, this has always been easy.
Star Ocean 2 - Integral Body and Imperfect Soul VS. Persona 3 FES - Heartful Cry: Heartful Cry's one of the like three decent+ pieces of P3 music, but Indy's theme is a personal favorite.
The Legend of Heroes Sora no Kiseki the 3rd - Sora wo Miagete VS. Persona 4 - Heaven: A one-sided battle of vocals, given my tastes.
Dragon Quest VIII - Heavenly Flight VS. Final Fantasy VI - Terra: I can never remember a single thing about Heavenly Flight after it finishes. Sure, it sounds nice, but it's hollow. Terra's solid.

Wild ARMs 4 - Critical Attack ~ Breaking Boundaries VS. Wild ARMs Alter Code: F - Windward Birds: Critical Attack's a good boss theme. Windward Birds is a Wild Arms Vocal.
Revelations: Persona - Boss Battle VS. Kirby Super Star - Kirby Arrives of the Scene: Meta Knight's Revenge is rad, one of the two great tracks in the game. Persona boss is a pile of meh.
Chrono Trigger - Undersea Palace VS. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl - Battle with Palkia/Dialga: Undersea Palace is a decent mood theme. And then, pokemon music.
Final Fantasy IX - Protecting my Devotion VS. Wild ARMs - A Moment of Tension (Lady Harken’s Theme): A good track versus CRISIS THEME

....excellent match. Mildly tempted to antivote To Zanarkand because it got really far in some previous tournaments but nah, it's too good.
Star Ocean 2 - Integral Body and Imperfect Soul VS. Persona 3 FES - Heartful Cry
One of the better "impending doom fear horror" final boss tracks out there. I approve, it's one of the saving graces of the SO2 soundtrack.
The Legend of Heroes Sora no Kiseki the 3rd - Sora wo Miagete VS. Persona 4 - Heaven
Dunno. Heaven is less generic, certainly, just not really my thing. They're both good.
Dragon Quest VIII - Heavenly Flight VS. Final Fantasy VI - Terra
Heavenly Flight's probably in the top 25% of the DQ8 soundtrack, but even my favorite pieces from it would have a tough time vs. an old favorite.

Wild ARMs 4 - Critical Attack ~ Breaking Boundaries VS. Wild ARMs Alter Code: F - Windward Birds
Meh. Rather than comment on the match I will instead ramble about WA music in general. Even though Naruke apparently got sick halfway through, I think WA4 is probably the best soundtrack in the WA series to me? WA2 has 3-4 pieces of pure awesome then a dropoff, WA3 is the most consistently good soundtrack, but WA4 is also fairly consistent while having a lot of really good pieces. WA5 is like WA4 but the best pieces are less good, to me at least.
Revelations: Persona - Boss Battle VS. Kirby Super Star - Kirby Arrives of the Scene
Kirby's got a lot of motion, which is good for priming your fingers to hit jump frantically, but not so much out of context. But boss battle is just a snoozer, like a lesser Grandia I piece.
Chrono Trigger - Undersea Palace VS. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl - Battle with Palkia/Dialga
Zeal sent out Lavos Spawn! Go, Lavos!
Lavos used Roar of Time with super awesome classic music!
It's super-effective vs. a piece that is only passable!
Final Fantasy IX - Protecting my Devotion VS. Wild ARMs - A Moment of Tension (Lady Harken’s Theme)
Bah to the WA1 piece.

Yeah, I liked the "Swivel" remix in the previous Arranged tourney more, though it lost sadly early. Meanwhile I have no idea this is originally a Sonic piece as it sounds like nothing from Sonic, so points for originality? ...and I was all set to vote for Ice Cap Zone, but it loses the plot at the halfway point with the "drum solo" and annoying other sound effects which disrupts the nice vibe it had going before. Shoulda cut off earlier, I'll take the consistent piece.

Xenogears - One who Bares Fangs at God VS. Final Fantasy X - To Zanarkand- One who bares fangs at god works well in its time and place, but not only is Zanarkand better at the same thing, it's tied to a much more emotional and significant scene.
Star Ocean 2 - Integral Body and Imperfect Soul VS. Persona 3 FES - Heartful Cry
The Legend of Heroes Sora no Kiseki the 3rd - Sora wo Miagete VS. Persona 4 - Heaven
Dragon Quest VIII - Heavenly Flight VS. Final Fantasy VI - Terra- Sure.

Wild ARMs 4 - Critical Attack ~ Breaking Boundaries VS. Wild ARMs Alter Code: F - Windward Birds- y'know, I think Critical Attack may be my least favorite WA battle track. And while this is akin to being my least favorite Suikoden game, still.
Revelations: Persona - Boss Battle VS. Kirby Super Star - Kirby Arrives of the Scene- Wow. P1 track is so subdued it's barely there. This is superior.
Chrono Trigger - Undersea Palace VS. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl - Battle with Palkia/Dialga- Probably one of my least favorite CT tracks. Still, 'tis enough.
Final Fantasy IX - Protecting my Devotion VS. Wild ARMs - A Moment of Tension (Lady Harken’s Theme)- Quite possibly the best thing about FFIX, really (this song and the parts associated with it, that is)

Starship Operators - Returning to Earth: On the Earth VS. Needless - Modern Strange Cowboy- On the Earth reminds me of nothing more than an American Idol performance. Which is... probably better here, Strange Cowboy's one of those rock tracks that's too much RAWK and not enough music.

Zombies at least goes for the whole dissonance which I'm going to go out on a limb and say this is thematically appropriate.

MAIN TOURNAMENT
Xenogears - One who Bares Fangs at God VS. Final Fantasy X - To Zanarkand - If we were gathered here today to crown the slowest building song of all time, Fangs would take it without us even having to listen to the rest. Assuming of course that we did not disqualify it for never building to anything. Fortunately for my sense of entertainment, that is not why we are here. Zanarkand has some nice pianoing and wipes the floor with it.
Star Ocean 2 - Integral Body and Imperfect Soul VS. Persona 3 FES - Heartful Cry - Integral is better than Fangs, at least. But it does spend too much time on what feels like buildup. I wouldn't award Heartful any prizes or anything, but it's pleasant enough, and that's ample here.
The Legend of Heroes Sora no Kiseki the 3rd - Sora wo Miagete VS. Persona 4 - Heaven - Well, Sora is decent. It feels like it's missing something that I can't think of offhand though. Looks like I can say much the same for Heaven! Except I would hazard that for Heaven it feels like the singer is using nowhere near enough of a range of voice. I'm going to go for Heaven here to keep with the right hand side but I really don't care which wins as things currently stand.
Dragon Quest VIII - Heavenly Flight VS. Final Fantasy VI - Terra - We're on a Flight to nowhere. The couple of swooping bits are decent enough, but man cannot survive on those morsels alone. Terra is nice and upbeat.

Wild ARMs 4 - Critical Attack ~ Breaking Boundaries VS. Wild ARMs Alter Code: F - Windward Birds - Pleasing track versus pleasing song = vote for song.
Revelations: Persona - Boss Battle VS. Kirby Super Star - Kirby Arrives of the Scene - Boss is too quiet. There is a decent track there after having to mess up my volumes. Kirby is far too hyper for me to enjoy, and messes up the right hand straight I had going.
Chrono Trigger - Undersea Palace VS. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl - Battle with Palkia/Dialga - Spooky music versus music that can't really decide what genre it is going for.
Final Fantasy IX - Protecting my Devotion VS. Wild ARMs - A Moment of Tension (Lady Harken’s Theme) - Plodding Spanishy tune versus mildly hyper tenseness. I don't really care for either of these. I'll give it to the left to balance out the one I gave to the right earlier.

ANIME
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni - Higurashi no Naku Koro ni VS. Soul Eater - Paper Moon - The major vocalisation in Koro was nice, moreso when it wasn't being distorted. It is a shame that the rest of the track exists where it was attempting to implode my ears. Conversely, Paper was a better track in general, but it had worse singing. I believe I'm going to have to assume that Koro isn't going to grow on me and go with Paper here.
Starship Operators - Returning to Earth: On the Earth VS. Needless - Modern Strange Cowboy - Match of the round!?! Kotoko is less heavy and a better singer and also my nom. Modern is very nice regardless and I won't be bothered if it moves ahead.

ARRANGED
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 - Ice Cap Zone 2 Remix VS. Seiken Densetsu 3 - Marina - Seiken Densetsu Arrange - Allegro Apassionato - These are both nice except for the part in Ice where it garbles up partway through and how someone is making popcorn throughout Allegro. Don't really mind which of these proceeds either; I'll go with Allegro as I feel like some popcorn.
Final Fantasy V - Azu♪ @ Mood Music - Break Big Bridge Battle VS. Zombie Ate my Neighbors - OCRemix - Zombies Ate My Neighbors 'Neighburgers' - Zombies is fairly good, but I'm not really feeling the electricity at the moment. Bridge it is.

  Nice, it's got that confusing boss fight feeling that makes the Twilight Princess Battle With Zant so freakishly fun. I like.

Xenogears - One who Bares Fangs at God VS. Final Fantasy X - To Zanarkand - See Twilk.
Star Ocean 2 - Integral Body and Imperfect Soul VS. Persona 3 FES - Heartful Cry - IBIS is a decent theme that certainly feels final boss, but nothing much beside that. Heartful Cry is one of the best parts of an OST I'm a fan of.
The Legend of Heroes Sora no Kiseki the 3rd - Sora wo Miagete VS. Persona 4 - Heaven - My nom vs. more generic vocal piece. Not close.
Dragon Quest VIII - Heavenly Flight VS. Final Fantasy VI - Terra - It's Terra, though Heavenly Flight is better than expected.

Wild ARMs 4 - Critical Attack ~ Breaking Boundaries VS. Wild ARMs Alter Code: F - Windward Birds - Birds is decent, but just kinda there. The WA4 track is pretty awesome though.
Revelations: Persona - Boss Battle VS. Kirby Super Star - Kirby Arrives on the Scene - Kirby music can have a win here, sure.
Chrono Trigger - Undersea Palace VS. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl - Battle with Palkia/Dialga - Legendary Pokemon themes have never been anything special, though this might be the best one. Still not Undersea Palace.
Final Fantasy IX - Protecting my Devotion VS. Wild ARMs - A Moment of Tension (Lady Harken’s Theme) - Slightly better than generic tension music, but Protecting my Devotion is a personal favorite.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni - Higurashi no Naku Koro ni VS. Soul Eater - Paper Moon - Tommy sans Brilliant Green isn't anything special, though it's a decent match.

Xenogears - One who Bares Fangs at God VS. Final Fantasy X - To Zanarkand - Man I love different tastes. Having done Pool 7 before this, I can safely say this is possibly the most dull match ever. Neither song is worth listening to, but Bares Fangs is actually horrible as opposed to just being dull, so Zanarkand takes it.
Star Ocean 2 - Integral Body and Imperfect Soul VS. Persona 3 FES - Heartful Cry - That first one's pretty bad.
The Legend of Heroes Sora no Kiseki the 3rd - Sora wo Miagete VS. Persona 4 - Heaven - Annoying vocals vs. not-annoying vocals. Easy match.
Dragon Quest VIII - Heavenly Flight VS. Final Fantasy VI - Terra - No contest here. Flight's not bad, but Terra's actively good and a nice tune. Right side sweep~

Wild ARMs 4 - Critical Attack ~ Breaking Boundaries VS. Wild ARMs Alter Code: F - Windward Birds - I like Critical Attack! I do not like Windward Birds' vocals.
Revelations: Persona - Boss Battle VS. Kirby Super Star - Kirby Arrives on the Scene - Ehh, disappointing match. When the intro to the Kirby one doesn't smack me with nostalgia from Kirby's Adventure, something's wrong.
Chrono Trigger - Undersea Palace VS. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl - Battle with Palkia/Dialga - I really like this one! Surprised this version was used and not the Brawl one, but still awesome.

Final Fantasy IX - Protecting my Devotion VS. Wild ARMs - A Moment of Tension (Lady Harken’s Theme) - My nom vs. kinda average. No contest.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni - Higurashi no Naku Koro ni VS. Soul Eater - Paper Moon - Very good match, tough call. Going for the one I prefer the vocals on.
Starship Operators - Returning to Earth: On the Earth VS. Needless - Modern Strange Cowboy - And, as I said in Pool 7, whoever said Japanese male vocals were worse than female ones needs to reconsider. Cowboy is 1000x better than Earth here.
