Alena (DQ4) vs Nina (BoF4): Nina4's only real flaw is her durability, and thanks to her physical resistance this is easy to prop up with the right masters if you care. She's just so versatile and so hard to match, her leads in two crucial stats (AP and Speed) are huge, and her innate skillset is just the best (healing + wind magic) except perhaps Ryu. Alena feels like there's less good you can say about her, since all she does is smash 1-2 targets. She's amazing at that, but Nina isn't bad either (needs Ursula to make her randomsmashing truly evil, only real downside) and has more going for her overall.

Middle:

Angelo (DQ8) vs Aika (SoA): Sounds like Aika deserves this one. Angelo is good but I think people are remembering the part of the game where Multiheal both exists and is useful to be longer than it actually is.

Light:

Onix:

Adam (SF1) vs Mime (FFT): If you actually unlock Mime, then, bad as he is, he can do things nobody else can. You can set up some double summoning or dancing or... something. Adam just lacks any use whatsoever, you have to actively waste large amounts of time only to get someone who does something that most of the cast can do by that point (kill single enemies with physical attacks). Truly a deserving finals for the Onix division. Actually, no. Onix is shamed by association with these two.

Adam (SF1) vs Mime (FFT) - I may be the only person that doesnt think Adam is that bad. If you use the Egress trick and raise him, hes a good tank. (then again, remake might have made him better) Mimes only use is 3 Mimes and 2 Dancers. But why use that when you can just use Orlandu and win.

Everyone is a good tank if you Egress-abuse to gain them levels. (Hell, a lot of people are good tanks WITHOUT this. And have more move.) The few exceptions (mages) have offence that the likes of Adam will never dream of.

Heavy:

Alena (DQ4) vs Nina (BoF4): Alena can only do one thing, Nina's much more well rounded, she's more diverse, and well lets face it, one of the reasons BoF4 is easy is cause Nina's so good at what she does.  And her flaws are easily compensated due to BoF4's Combo system allowing for that synergy aspect, so stuff like "Nina has no ST damage!" goes away completely with Ursula (or alternatively, the Skill system works too.  See Flame Pillar.)

Middle:

Angelo (DQ8) vs Aika (SoA): Delta Shield is nice but not required honestly; its mostly that Aika has NOTHING ELSE TO DO ON THAT turn other than throw items or use Focus; fights would still be "Wait for Vyse to use Pirate's Wrath."  Angelo, meanwhile, is a reliable source of healing and doesn't really have much failings.  While worse than Guv in most ways, he fills those secondary roles rather admirably.

Light:

Tim Rhymeless (WA2) vs Massimo (MMXCM): Good run Massimo, but Tim's clearly the better character.

Onix:

Adam (SF1) vs Mime (FFT): ...I refuse to even hatbot this fight.

If you use the Egress trick and raise him, hes a good tank.

If you give Malak Auto potion, Save the Queen, and Defense up, he makes an excellent tank. He is still a terrible PC with next to no redeeming value on his own merits. Adam is not tanky at the level he joins at, he isn't at endgame unless you feed him a lot of kills, and even then he isn't all that great on raw durability.
