I was talking about my Monday noon (EST), but Sunday evening should be ok.  I just probably won't get a chance to post or do much until later on Monday.

Oh, what the hell.  If you don't mind the late entry, I'll try this.  It'll be entertaining at the least. >_>

If we could get one more, that would be excellent.  13 is a much better number than 11 for players, assuming a normal scum/town ratio.

Wasn't going to join 2 games at once. I should have expect a day 1 lynch though in the other game, as usual. So I guess I'll give it a go.

I'm not trying to be a jerk here, just trying to help out.  If you want to stop getting lynched day one, you seriously need to go back and look at all these games that it's happened to you in and look at what it is that you're doing that's causing people to vote for you.  Try to adjust your playstyle a bit to not draw the same kind of attention every time.  For example, you tend to overreact when people accuse you of something.  Instead of making a post about how you didn't do anything wrong or trying to accuse that person based on the attack, step back for a second and think of it from their point of view.  If they're a townie too, they know about as much as you do:  nothing.  They're probably trying to get information to make a better informed choice about who the scum really are.  The biggest problem I notice with you is that when you're pressured, you get extremely defensive and sometimes lash out.  It's better to just answer the question or, for a lurker vote, do your best to put out solid content on other people.  If you just focus on defending yourself from pressure votes, you start looking bad because you aren't really helping town root out the scum and you look like you're trying too hard to stay alive.  A townie has to be willing to help out no matter what, even if they're being voted for, to give the rest of town as much information in the war against scum as they possibly can.

That's just one thing that might help you out.  Seriously, go back and take a look at the reasons people voted for you, and see if you can figure out how to avoid the bigger reasons in the future.  Learn from the mistakes, don't keep making them, and the games will become a lot more fun for you.

Sorry to derail the thread like that. <_<

I'm not a Mafia expert, but I will suggest that you actually try when playing Mafia.  Exhibiting an "oh well, guess I get lynched, too bad" attitude makes you look so much worse.  If your best appeal is "well, you're gonna mislynch me, whatever, this sucks" then you are going to be lynched every single time.  A townie's first and foremost job is not to get mislynched.  Mislynching is the main danger for town, and it really really sucks whenever it happens, and the first step to avoiding it is for genuine townies not to mess up and act really scummy.  If you concentrate on, y'know, acting like a good townie who would actually like to help town out and avoid mislynch because mislynch hurts the town so much?  You'll do better immediately.  If you continue to act resigned to a meaningless mislynch and don't seem to care about preventing it?  Not so much.

And now it is my job to sow confusion by arguing that what Otter said is dead wrong.  A townie's first and foremost job, always, is to find and lynch scum.  Town before self.  The main danger for town is not being able to find out who the scum are.

There has been an unfortunate trend here towards thinking that mislynches are the devil and anyone trying to lynch a townie or pushing a lynch in general must be scum.  This results in stagnation, deadline lynches, and townies playing overly defensive, which is scummy and can be easily exploited, because they're too busy trying to save their own hides to hunt scum.

Contribute by scumhunting always, even if it means your death.  Don't act needlessly scummy, not getting mislynched is your secondary goal, but hunting scum comes first.

I defer to Alex's words because town's goal is, yes, lynching scum.  However, I stressed things that way because I've personally talked to new players who thought it was a good idea to act strange and say scummy things in order to "trick" the scum and get them to reveal themselves, somehow.  What I'm trying to say is that this is not a really great idea.  Stick to the basics and act like a townie so you won't get lynched, because we can't achieve our primary goal of lynching scum if we're busy killing people who look blatantly scummy because they've decided to try some stunt.

Yakumo: "Don't be over-defensive!"
Otter: "Defend yourself more!"
Me: >_>

Anyway, this isn't the topic. 15 players now, that's enough to start yeah?

I understand that, that's why I'm trying to point out what you do that looks needlessly scummy to me, to try and help you avoid it in the future.  Otter kinda has the right idea but I would say was wording it the wrong way.  What it looks to me like he was trying to get at, and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here, is that one thing that would help you out a lot would be to stop giving up at the end of game days.  Even if you're sure nothing you can say is going to stop town from mislynching you, at least give them every bit of information you can see to look at.  You still win if Town wins even if you die, and then you've at least helped town in the process.  If you just roll over and say "oh well, I'm getting mislynched again, goodbye" then not only does town have to deal with a mislynch, they also have to deal with a massive lack of information from the mislynch.  This is where what Otter said and what I think differ: Otter stresses avoiding the mislynch more, I think fighting too hard against it makes you look worse, but if you just try and play helpful townie and votes on you were pressure votes at least in part for not being around, like what just happened to you, there's a chance that those votes will migrate to someone that deserves them more.  At worst, you get mislynched anyway, but at least have helped town by putting out information on people other than yourself so they aren't starting over from square one the next day.
