Dragon Quest IX (stats)
« on: August 01, 2010, 11:05:29 PM »
Work in progress, just some quick averages for now.

I'm using level 40 for endgame.  45 would also be reasonable if you spent some time grinding liquid metal slimes.
The first number listed is their base stats.  The second is if you include the stat ups from spending skill points in their vocation-specific traits.

Str:  Strength, for hitting stuff.
Agi:  Agility, helps determine turn order.
Res:  Resilience, reduces damage taken
Dft:  Deftness, affects rate of preemptive strikes, critical hits, running from battle, and steal rate.  And yes, everything can crit in this game, including spells and status effects (crit = autosuccess)
Chm:  Charm, affects rate of enemy skipping a turn, being frozen for three turns, or becoming confused at your appearance.
Mend:  Magical Mending, affects effectiveness of healing spells.  Does nothing if you have no such spells.
Might:  Magical Might, affects effectiveness of damaging spells.  Reportedly affects success rate of negative status spells like Sap.  Need to check.
HP:  Keeps you from dying
MP:  Lets you do stuffs

Damage = Base_Range + (Might - Might_reduction) * Mult

Base_Range is column 2, Might_reduction is column 3, Mult is column 4.

I don't think (Might - Might_reduction) can go below 0 (that is, if it calculates to a negative number, use 0 instead).  Not entirely sure but that's what it seemed like to me.

Yeah, basically the spell does base damage up to a certain point, then starts growing slowly as your appropriate stat increases.

Quote from: Satarack
That's for all the attack magic spells, the first column is the spell name, the second column is the base power, the third column is the point where the spell damage starts to increase, the 4th column is the growth rate, the fifth column is the damage cap for that spell, the sixth column is the elemental property of the spell (the table is also colour coded and in sequential order, so red is Frizz, and the top red row is Frizz and the bottom red row is Kafrizzle), and the 7th column indicates whether it's a single target attack, group attack, or all target attack.

Basically, all spells, and some skills like Half-Inch, follow a piecewise function. Below a certain M. Might/Mending, the spell will only do it's base damage. However once you exceed this M. Might/Mending value, the spell damage will begin to grow according to it's growth rate. It's a linear growth rate, so it's formula is very simple.

Base power + (M.M. - growth point)*growth

The base power is given by a range of it's minimum and maximum damage. They're probably a true base power value and the game employs a RNG to cause the range. In all likelihood it's the average of the two values, but they don't mention it, atleast that's what I've gotten from Google Translator. As far as I'm aware, M.Might/Mending does not affect the range of damage, so we can use the minimum value to find the minimum damage value for any given M.Might/Mending.

Anyway, let's take Frizz as an example, Frizz has a base power of 12-15, it's growth point is 50, and it's growth rate is 0.09 If we put it in the formula with 999 M.Might, we would get the following minimum damage:

Damage = 12 + (999 - 50)*0.09
Damage = 12 + 85
Damage = 97

And of course by that same formula the maximum damage would be 100.

Here's the page for all Skills:

http://dq9.ffsky.cn/damage3.htm

This page list all the Healing Spells/Skills:

This page explains critical attacks:

http://dq9.ffsky.cn/damage4.htm

This page explains physical attacks, tension, and a few other things:

http://dq9.ffsky.cn/damage1.htm

As I said though, I'm using Google Translator to decipher the Chinese. I'm fairly certain about the spell damage, but I can't be 100% confident in Google Translator, and I've had to deduce things at times.

Also, I vote that we change Kaswooshle's name to "Information found on beverage giant Newspaper"
