Tournament of Randomness - Round 3
« on: August 09, 2010, 07:52:42 PM »
41: Ike v Maria - Stealth Match (Metal Gear Challenge)   1/11
42: Dungeon Man v Gilgamesh - Junkyard Wars      6/2
43: Kefka Palazzo v Luigi Mario - Nascar Racing   0/12
44: Rafa/Malak v Frocobo - Poetry Contest      7/5
45: Lucretia v Ultros - Taunting/Gloating      3/9
46: Mog v Jade Curtiss - Manliness Contest      7/6 TB
47: Cloud Strife v Jack Frost - Drinking Contest   7/4
48: Mitsuru Kirijo v Roy - Bar Fight         7/5

On a side note, due to DL con, this round will be open longer than usual.

Round 3:

Match 49

There's something primal about two teams, a pit filled with something embarrassing, and a rope.  The Tug of War, where each contestant must recruit a team to aid them in out tugging their foe.

Welch Vineyard is well known throughout the Game, though perhaps less so in 4-D space.  And will likely be able to drum up support that way.  While her opponent is the every charismatic Richard Hawk, who even if he can't drum up some allies, can certainly draft a small army.

Match 50

Greetings, multiverse.  Captain Kirk has boldly gone where no one has gone before, and sampled everything those places had to offer.  And when he was finally forced to stop travelling the galaxy, he came here to continue sampling the delights the universe had to offer him, here at his own culinary arena.  Here he's gathered the finest chefs the universe has to offer, and accepts all challengers.

Today's challenger hails from the Western Kingdom of Adelhyde.  Cecilia Lynn Adelhyde may be a princess, but she was also the token female in an adventuring party that crossed the globe in a japanese game, so you just know she did all the cooking.  And she's looking to put those skills to the test today.

The defender will be Iron Chef Fabul, whose skill with the Frying Pan is legendary.  Known primarily as wife to the current King of Fabul, she's ready to dish out defeat to this uppity challenger as she's dealt with so many others.

Match 51

There's some who say that when it comes to the blogosphere there's no such thing as winners or losers.  But only the losers ever think that, so who cares about them.  After all, hits and friends are the currency of this realm, and celebrity the name of the game.  And the one who has the most, wins.

Fun Master Ion may be a mild-mannered soul, but with the company he keeps, he'll have fodder for ages, and all he needs to rake in the hits.  But Hilda, with her wild mood swings, and almost equally zany party, should be able to be a strong draw as well.

Match 52

The King is dead!  Long live the King!

Of course, we're not talking about any monarch here, but the King of Rock himself, Elvis.  But while many can try, there can only be one King.  And these two are going to have to do their best to show why they deserve the crown.

Leo and Kanji both have the irreverant attitude required to be a rock star, and both are ready to dress up for a cause.  Of course, Leo's strength comes in his self confidence and already being used to dressing in white, while Kanji counters by being a Japanese teen, and therefore already likely to known how to sing thanks to kareoke, and possibly already being familiar with Elvis' songs.

Match 53

There are some feats which, when accomplished, become the stuff of legend.  Today, two challengers strive to accomplish one such legend.  To sell the entire collection of the Encyclopedia Britannica, including all of the suppliments.

Maria will have the issue that when she's from, there's doubtless some super advanced version of Wikipedia to contend with, while Dungeon Man's challenge is that there's almost no one in his world who'd even be especially interested in such a product, and even if there is, a social hermit like himself is unlikely to meet any.

Match 54

The challenge is simple, each will have 15 minutes.  In this time they must create the most mind scarring image possible.  Whoever causes their target to spend more time in therapy wins.

As the perpetual second man, Luigi's doubtless got a lot of time to think of some rather unsettling ideas.  Not to mention all of the crazy places he's been, and the mind altering substances he's ingested over the years to gain "super powers".  So much that in recent times he's learned how to emit a hallucinogenic cloud around himself.

Of course, against this is Rafa and Malak Galthanas who're ready to show us their "special skills".  I'm not entirely sure what this will entail, but odds are exploding frogs will be the least of it.

Match 55

Sometimes, you need to know where someone is going, or you just need to stay with them, but you also need them not to know that you're there.  That's where you need to know how to stalk someone.  And today's match will go to whoever is best at stalking their prey.

Both of our contestants actually hail from FF6 this time.  With Mog showing his stuff with nick of time rescues and the Moogle Charm which removes distractions.  And Ultros just using his extreme dedication to revenge which lets him keep on showing up in the paths of those who cross him.

Match 56

We've had the gladitorial combat, and the bar fight, both competitions where strength of arm are what matter, and magical might counts for nothing.  And now we have their counterpart, the duel arcane, where a physical blow disqualifies the user, and magical might is all that matters.

Cloud Strife is likely going to regret that the one element he'd want most is the one he doesn't start with.  However, he still has his trusty Bolt Materia to give him the slugging power he needs.

Mitsuru had to execute Roy in the bar brawl, but now she can unsling her invoker and show the power of her Persona.  With her powerful Bufu skills she has slugging power backed up by strong supporting magic, this should be an easy fight for the SEES head.

Giant robot is OP in this.

50: Cecilia Lynn Adelhyde v Yang's Wife - Iron Chef
I guess?

51: Fun Master Ion v Hilda - Competitive Blogging
Awaiting arguments.

52: White Knight Leo v Kanji Tatsumi - Elvis Impersonation
Sure.

53: Maria v Dungeon Man - Sell Full Set of Encyclopedia Britannica
It'd be pretty hard for Dungeon Man to sell much of anything, I'd imagine.

54: Luigi Mario v Rafa/Malak - Craft Disturbing Image
CD-i Mario games.

55: Ultros v Mog - Stalking
Just how *does* Ultros know where your party is anyways?

56: Cloud Strife v Mitsuru Kirijo - Duel Arcane
I neither know nor care.

53: Maria v Dungeon Man - Sell Full Set of Encyclopedia Britannica
54: Luigi Mario v Rafa/Malak - Craft Disturbing Image. Rafa and Malak can craft a disturbing image with just their person. 15 minutes is highly limited, but incest is instant.

49: Welch Vineyard v Richard Hawk - Tug of War

He has the entire armed forces of the Great United States of America at his disposal.

50: Cecilia Lynn Adelhyde v Yang's Wife - Iron Chef

No evidence Cecilia really cooked that I can recall (she's a princess, and she goes to that restuarant early, etc.). Yang's wife at least has kitchen utensils and knows how to use them.

51: Fun Master Ion v Hilda - Competitive Blogging

She can blog about being overweight in curvy form. Also she's a VAMPIRE. If you think vampires can't blog you haven't been paying any attention to the genre. Ion seems far too nice to have effective blogging skillz.

52: White Knight Leo v Kanji Tatsumi - Elvis Impersonation

It'd be a little awkward when everyone recognises him despite his claims that he's actually Elvis, but he at least has experience in disguises. And, as mentioned, dressing in white.

53: Maria v Dungeon Man - Sell Full Set of Encyclopedia Britannica

54: Luigi Mario v Rafa/Malak - Craft Disturbing Image

Dhyer's argument, much as I wish I had never heard it, is sadly incontravertible.

55: Ultros v Mog - Stalking

Having a pink cloud-thing as a buddy seems like it'd help a lot.

56: Cloud Strife v Mitsuru Kirijo - Duel Arcane

Is there any compelling reason Cloud can't just pick up a fire materia and abuse it here? Mechanically both are good mages within their games, but the fire point seems to be a good tipper.

Luigi Mario has a special drawer next to his bed in which he keeps the left femur of his first bride, which he has carved into the shape of a small buddha in emoriam of the way that she passed on.  They never could pin it on him properly, the boiling soup that they found on the campfire did not provide any conclusive DNA evidence.  They never thought to look for a funnel.

Only 9 more mushrooms to go and the works will be completed.  2 more oubliettes, 4 more women, 27 more incisions, 1 watering can  filled with the urine of newborn, 1 glorious ascension.

49: Welch Vineyard v Richard Hawk - Tug of War         - Well Welch has the advantage of two hands and a handy stick.  But Richard has a giant robot.  Bad draw.
50: Cecilia Lynn Adelhyde v Yang's Wife - Iron Chef      - Cecilia would probably be okay at cooking just because she eats a lot.  But Yang's Wife likely has actual experience here.

49: Welch Vineyard v Richard Hawk - Tug of War

Giant Robot.  If anything else, anchor his side to the SUPER WHITE HOUSE!

50: Cecilia Lynn Adelhyde v Yang's Wife - Iron Chef

Welcome to Iron Chef DL!  I am your host, Mr. Champloo, boom!

Cooking is an art.  A holy fusion of ingredients with soul to make tantalizing dishes that will leave the common man speechless.  Legendary chefs meet in this kitchen stadium to duel it out in a form of a battle of the senses, boom!

Today's show, however, is a bit of subversion to normal.  Instead of a challenger coming up against an Iron Chef, we have two challengers facing each other!  It's the Medley of Magical Meals versus the legendary Kung-Fu Cooking, boom!  In this sacred arena to pay in tribute to the SOUL of food, who's cuisine will reign supreme?

With that, I shall unveil today's mystery ingredient!  It is...  PEPPERS!

Challengers, take this ingredient in mind, and use it as the base soul for all your dishes.  ALLEZ CUISINE!

(Ah...  Dammit.  Creative juice ran out there.)

51: Fun Master Ion v Hilda - Competitive Blogging

Yeah, being the head guy of a whole church will do it.

52: White Knight Leo v Kanji Tatsumi - Elvis Impersonation

Looks aren't everything, as they can change easily.  Kanji, however, does have the voice and the ability to use Elvis's moves.  I doubt Leo would trade in his pride to do the same.

53: Maria v Dungeon Man - Sell Full Set of Encyclopedia Britannica

If nothing else, a museum might want to buy them in Maria's time for being actual books.  Dungeon Man...  Doesn't get as lucky here.

54: Luigi Mario v Rafa/Malak - Craft Disturbing Image

Remember, Luigi has come out of worse things with his sanity in tact and with no need of therapy.  While Rafa/Malak incest may be disturbing to us, Luigi presents the idea of Giga Bowser screwing Peach.  Are those two even biologically compatible, anyway?

55: Ultros v Mog - Stalking

It should also be mentioned that Mog can be stopped by an insurmountable waist-high fence.

56: Cloud Strife v Mitsuru Kirijo - Duel Arcane - Pass.

54: Luigi Mario v Rafa/Malak - Craft Disturbing Image: Grefter is awesome.
55: Ultros v Mog - Stalking: Yeah, much as I like the moogle, Ultros has got this.
56: Cloud Strife v Mitsuru Kirijo - Duel Arcane: Blurb seems to imply no Fire materia for Cloud, and that would be my gut inclination anyway, so.

Just going to quickly mention here that Luigi has been forced into being the sex slave of a vegetable. A very rich, gay vegetable who has more than enough resources to do whatever it is he pleases, and to drag Luigi along with him. And yet Luigi has come out of that alive. If that doesn't spawn some disturbing images, I don't know what does.

Surviving disturbing mental images caused by past experiences and crafting are two entirely different challenges.

The challenge is to craft a disturbing mental image that would easily sent their opponent(s) into the psyche ward.  Given this, Luigi has some pretty damn high tolerance for things disturbed, just coming from this anymore.  Rafa and Malak?  Probably not so much.  They'd probably wear on their own sanity more than their opponent's.

I don't see any indication that it's their opponent against whom their image will be measured; rather it's a general audience, i.e. us.  In other words Sanity Attack is all that matters, not their individual mental defense.  So high Luigi SP hype seems kind of irrelevant.  (The writeup isn't specific, it just says "targets.")  Anyway, Dhyer's suggestion caused me actual mental anguish to even think about, while Luigi's mansion seems to be more about Boo! then disturbia.

It all goes back to the problem that Luigi can tell while Rafa and Malak can do. Luigi's tolerance isn't relevant because Rafa and Malak are trying to break the dungeon.

Else, Luigi can just recount his tales from There Will Be Brawl.

Also, negative points for the incest, unless the target is Rafa and Malak.  Honestly, I'm not seeing points for self-destructive moves.
