Combined Scores Average - 177.8

It's an odd stat spread this time around. Average score for the first game went up, average score for the second game both went DOWN for the first time ever and didn't beat the first game average for the first time ever. Best scores average stayed about the same (97.4 this year compared to 98 last year). Combined scores average went up by 4 points from last year, mostly because we got nominally better and didn't have Super dragging the averages down.

A couple people jumped onto the Best Combined Scores list, but no one managed to get on the Best Single Game Score. Congrats to Tal, NEB and Dhyer.

So the DL Records stand as follows:

Best Single Game
1. Tal - 152 (DLC4)
2. OK - 147 (DLC3)
3. Grefter - 146 (DLC4)
4. Soppy - 135 (DLC3)
5. mc - 134 (DLC1)

Best Overall Score
1. Tal - 252 (DLC5)
2. Tal - 249 (DLC4)
3. Dhyer - 247 (DLC5)
4t. Grefter - 246 (DLC4)
4t. NEB - 246 (DLC5)
5. Yakko - 245 (DLC1)

Glad everyone enjoyed themselves and had a good fun time =-) Hopefully I'll be able to make it sometime, between trying to save for a laptop (it would be nice to have access to my own computer during the week, instead of my main access being the family PC at mom's at the weekend, the library during the week otherwise) , a place of my own or holidays I don't know. It would be be fun though (and at least I already have my passport now and know what to do about insurance now) *^_^*

Can I, like, augment my bowling score with my games of In the Groove?  They're in the same building, so that's just plain logic.

No, that was after the start of the game and you had to spend all your money on augments before the game started.  By the time you were In the Groove you were living on the street.

I have nothing to do this week and yet somehow I am still too lazy to make a decent Con recap post.

The drive to and back was pretty easy since we did the sane thing and broke it into two days this time. Turns out that getting those books of motel coupons at rest areas makes lodging really cheap, so that wasn't a problem. Had great weather on the drive, and it's always worth it just to see Mt. Shasta mock us all with how much bigger it is than us.

House was quite good, big enough to sleep a lot of people, no drama with the owners this time (as far as I know?), good-sized rooms. We probably needed to bite the bullet and have a few more people in hotels to avoid problems like people sleeping in bathrooms - putting four more people in a hotel would cost like 15$ more per person max which seems worth it to me, and definitely an option to keep in mind for future Cons.

I more or less second Ciato's comments on games. Whatever style of humour Dead Rising is going for completely falls flat for me - totally failed to live up to the hype. Blazblue actually looked more appealing this year; it wasn't so horridly slow now that people knew what they were doing? Still not my style of fighting game at all. Scott Pilgrim shows quite nicely why that genre is dead, and FF4 TAY shows quite nicely why most of the DL mocks FF4. That said, the last was at least fun because of being able to put it in French and poke fun at it as a group thing. Soul Calibur 4 was fun at least (but no Shale to play it with is sadness), as was Street Fighter 4. Oh, and Nier is very pretty.

Bowling was fun; it was nice to actually feel competent at DLC bowling for once, even if I pulled a Sopko and had an epic last frame. Quiz contests were also fun, if a little chaotic, but we managed quite well. True/false in Jeopardy is probably an idea that should not return, however!

I actually played a board game (Arkham) this time instead of just watching. In general board games take too long for my impatient self, but still, it was fun. Something to do again next year.

Karaoke was a great idea and part of me wished I'd stayed for it; I love doing it, but the idea of standing around (not even sitting) in a loud, smoky bar in which I could barely talk to people is not my idea of fun at all. I'd love to do this next year, though... just need to find a better place for grumpy ol' me.

I think I was probably quite mopey and anti-social for much of Sunday since Ciato had gone. I mostly cheered up after going out to lunch and talking with Andy and Djinn about IAQ stuff (as well as some less nerdy things. Some) which was great fun. Also got to talk with Ash and Cmdr too - I think this is the most I've ever talked to Cmdr at a DLC and I enjoyed it a lot. The man's shirt speaks the truth. Also, thanks again for finding us that extra copy of S3.

Scott Pilgrim movie was a lot of fun; I considered not going due to my low opinion of the game but that would have been a big mistake. I enjoyed the movie a lot and it was great to just go and do something with people; it would have been worth it even had the movie sucked, I think.

I tried to spend time talking with everyone a bit, although the way the cookie crumbled there were a few I barely got time with (OK and Tonfa come to mind, this year). Dhyer's snark is something I can only aspire to, Jim's always fun to talk to about all things political, Laggy is very knowledgeable and well-spoken and fun to chill with, Tal's a great guy when he opens up a bit, Soppy and I click infinitely better in person, etc. etc. I'm not going to try to list everyone. I'll give special note to Grefter, since we hung out for the better part of two weeks - his sense of comic timing is hilarious and he's always fun to talk to about all sorts of things, even if the two of us rarely talk much when alone - and Meeple, who I shared a solo car trip with - fun to chat with because he's so knowledgeable, even if I have a hard time keeping up with his pace of speaking.

Gate and Jenna are awesome hosts. This Con was a little less controlled than previous ones but I think it generally worked fine; we're big kids after all (... mostly). They still put in so much effort in terms of getting things organised, ferrying people back and forth, and so on. I really appreciate it and hope both of you enjoyed the weekend even if it could be a bit stressful at times.

New folks were great fun too. Rat is so much more well-balanced and well-spoken than his crazy mafia persona implies, Archmage was also a lot of fun to hang out with (and help us suck less at Arkham~). Chiaki I didn't really communicate with much due to the language thing but he was cool too; I'm suprised he and Ciato didn't band together to kill Djinn and I, though! We are such bad people.

I realised that after making a big point to say goodbye to everyone I totally managed to miss MC the morning we left! Arrgh, fail me. :( Anyway, MC, it's great to see you doing so well and I hope we can come and visit you in Atlanta soon.

People who couldn't make it were missed and I hope you can all make it next year!

Overall, it was a blast, I'm very glad I came and it was great to see all of you again.

Erwin Schrödinger will kill you like a cat in a box.
Maybe.

Mostly what others have said.  Definitely got the most words out of CK this year than I have had with him before so good good!  Also saw much more Niu socialising than before as well which was good to see, clearly we need to schedule DLC around new portable releases, I didn't talk with him much unfortunately, but good to see Niu wandering around without trying to crush something on his DS or PSP.  I need to prod Tonfa a lot more and also should tag Laggy to do something before I fly out on Monday.

Rat is normal and that is good.

Gate and Jenna are good times and hopefully we were less stress inducing than two years ago.  The smaller one is a good kid, give him a few years and unleash him on a world of adult and young adult fiction and we will have a fine new kind of nerd coming into light.

Met, shine on you crazy diamond, you are awesome.

Ciato and Elves, cheers for putting up with my lazy sleepy arse for weeks, I hope I didn't make to big a dent in your couch with my not moving.  I have no idea why we don't talk much when it is just the two of us Elf, I think you are way to well adjusted or something.  Maybe it is that we know what we disagree on and agree on everything else way to much?  10/10 for the Elf Parents, they are great and just as nice as I remember.

Excal needs to be able to go to a con.

Ryan and Eric were great to hang around with and D&D is awesome fun good happy times.

Dhyer is great, I would love to be able to be half as catty as he can be, as is, hilarious times.

Super, needs to accept that there is some things it is okay to be mediocre at, you can stop having the worst sense of timing ever AND having the worst taste in the world.  You might want to start with this concept http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minimalism  Pro tip:  Solids go well together far better and easier than patterns.  Brown works with far more other colours than blue.  If it is a darker shade then there is a good chance that brown will work with it.  This is why brown shoes work with almost any article of clothing (but you optimally want to put them next to something other than black, I badly need to get more socks that are not black).

Things and stuff, that last bit threw me off track.

Brown is ugly, so screw that. Lighter colors are almost always better. That quilt was fugly and I stand by light blue and white being a far superior option at almost all times.

Is all good, I kept you up late like half the nights talking inane shit?  I spent most of the day sleeping anyways, so no real loss either way.  And don't get me wrong, at least for me not talking with Elf wasn't uncomfortable or anything, it was just sort of an eh, what is left to say?  We had already hashed out Suikoden 5 pretty thoroughly most nights so I couldn't babble to much while he was playing that, alternately it was me playing MK2 and I don't really talk TO people when I play games so much as rant at the television.

Now we return to interior decorating with Grefter.

Light blues and whites look better isolated, that s why you commonly see them purchased for quilts and whatnot, that is in isolation however, a quilt is just one part of an entire bed which is just one part of a room.  You can't do an entire room in light blues and whites.  There is a very good chance you are going to be using white sheets as is, a white quilt on top of that is poxy and makes it look like a hospital bed.  Pastels highlight darks quite well, so a light coloured sheet will go well with a darker toned quilt or quilt cover (that being the really main thing here, if the quilt is ugly or doesn't match you use a cover anyway).  You shouldn't use the top layer of your bed as a highlight though.  The bed is kind of the centrepiece of your bedroom.  This is why you will commonly see bedrooms with light coloured walls, it helps bring the centrepiece of the room into focus.  Carpets are the really hard part, a light carpet will only add to the attention drawing factor of the centrepiece, you need a good place to put your bed there (centre of the room, not tucked into a corner).  A neutral floor will let you get away with the bed being less of a focus (dark quilt/covers still good, but you will want something else dark in the room if you have the bed tucked away in a corner).  If you have a really awesome bed and bed position you can get away with a strong dark floor colouring which when done right makes a place look pretty damned classy, if done wrong though you are going to make the room feel cloying and closed.  It can work if you are looking to make the room cozy and comfy, but that needs to either be a small room originally (apartments with small bedrooms are good for this) and you need to be careful not to make it feel claustrophobic.

So yeah what you should do with your covers really depends on your architecture and room layout and whatnot.  This brings me back to Brown accessorizes with almost anything.  I was buying the blanket to use for one night to give away to whoever would take it for a bedroom I didn't know what it looked like.  Universals was the key behind the selection here.  My other option was to risk giving someone with a green floor a light blue blanket.  Ugh, it hurts just to think about.
