Winter '10 Minimeet- Newport News, VA, December 3rdish-5th

We've had one for three years running. Anyone interested in hosting/where are we dong it/when are we doing it?

Edit: Sometime in december is when I'd like it. November is possible but would be harder. Usual weekend thing?

I could potentially talk my parents into allowing me to run it, but:

A. Wouldn't COMPLETELY count on it
B. Not the most convenient for most people

Just throwing the idea out there just in case.

Branching from that, things to consider are that I have classes until about December 18th or so (I'd have to check when my last final is.  I almost missed one last time for Minimeet cause I screwed up dates; thankfully Professor was cool enough to let me take it with his other class, who was taking it 4 days earlier), my schedule is such that I have no class on Friday, and my first class on Monday is at 2:30 (so me getting home late on a Sunday *OR* taking an overnight bus getting me home on Monday wouldn't be too bad a thing.)

Furthermore, November 21st is COMPLETELY OUT for me.

The hardest part I'm seeing for me is requesting time off, cause of something I might be doing in January that takes up 10 days off.  So yeah.  If we were to have it in Jersey, I could probably do it without requesting time off work, but like I said, I get the feeling most people will NOT want to do that.

Probably not at my place. Wouldn't want to traumatize the cat. (I sad this about the last one, I know, but she at least tolerated other people even if she didn't like them. This one goes into PTS mode if even my mom stops by.)

My place may be a possibility; it's more central to the midatlantic if any of the New Jersey/New Yorkers want in. I'd have to clear it with my better half, though.

It occurred to me another random potential advantage of having it in Jersey:

Actually having a New York City trip during the Minimeet.  During this time, you can see stuff like the Big Tree of Rockefeller Center and all that.  It'd be a divergence from the usual "sit around, play games, maybe go out for food" for once.

Again, I totally understand saying "no" to the idea, just throwing ideas down on the table.

Branching from that, roughly how long of a drive is it from my place to yours, Shale?  This is just a general question, and would be nice to know regardless where its being held.

Another advantage to having it in Jersey is that you can go to New York and visit an Allen Edmonds or an Alden shop and get some class.

Potentially in if it's close enough to Georgia.  Would have to be before December 17, though (that's when I fly out).

Four hours or so? It's about an hour twenty from the Delaware Memorial Bridge.

I should be able to.  Early December is best for me since I'm not heading to MidYear this year.  Late is fine, but not too late.

First weekend in December seems ideal to me.  As I said, November 21st is a huge "No" to me, following weekend is Thanksgiving, so I think its safe that's out too. So first weekend in December sound good?

As I've poked my head about this once in chat, if there's some sort of miniature meet-up/con going on in December, I'm interested in making arrangements. Most of December should be fine with me time wise. October/November is a bad time for me due to certification exams.

Any earlier and we run into thanksgiving, plus school for several people. Any later and we run into school again.

Possible locations (Not volunteering anyone, listing places that have done it before/could do in theory):

Newport News, VA
Milford, DE
Wayne, NJ *shudder*

I'm fine with the first two dates. End of december works well for me since I have no class or work at that timeframe, but people may want to do something with SO's for new year's eve. The final date I could work in a pinch.  Newport news is easy for me, and Milford's not bad. Wayne would be tougher.

January's pretty bad for me, meanwhile; I might be slated to go off during that timeframe on an actual vacation of length (unsure when the exact dates are, and its not finalized but), so...yeah.

Good dates: All of December except the 31st-2nd and January 7th-9th.  The 3rd-5th and 10th-12th are my best.

Potentially, we could do it here in Morgantown, and I'd have a house I could rent out for a few days (assuming Ann doesn't sell it - and she's having issues with that).  If people want - I know it's a biiiiiiit far west for most people.

Dec 3rd-5th sounds fine to me too, although the entire December should be alright. More importantly, Dec 5th is when I get the results to my Canadian Accounting exam. Therefore, more excuse to get piss drunk on the 4th (and to be away from home)!
