Not that you're wrong about 'G2 Plot' in general). But still, the FFX scene is made of drama and epic.

Camping Trip! (Persona 4) vs. "A Sailor is a Man's Man!" (BoF4): "You feel as if a million showers will not make you clean again." The humor isn't "girls in swimsuits, boys are awkward". It's "girls poison, risk getting in a crapload of trouble, and finally push the guys into a river. And then they just walk off casually. Also this happening to the supposedly 'badass' male lead should give most of the normally more mature crowd who hates that escapist self-insert style a snicker (though Souji isn't as bad about this as Minato was I think). Also "Do you think she'd stop snoring if I covered her nose and mouth for long enough?" YUKIKO REALLY WAS THE KILLER!!!
