I'll be there, with a car like last time. May or may not have my family along and have to drop them off at my step-daughter's house before I can join the festivities. Will most likely get a hotel room.

I do plan on running the fighting game tournament like DLC2 again, so we'll have to squeeze everyone together somewhere.

Quite easilly prepared to help pay for or completely pay for the rental of a car, but cannot drive myself and all kinds of traps there. So if someone wants to be my dedicated chauffeur or something we can organise some shits and stuffs.

Still undecided on what I want to do with my holiday though. I had really kind of wanted to hit up Vancouver, but flying around looks like it might be a complete and total bitch. I know I would like to head to Texas early so I can spend some time slapping sense into Snow, but after that not sure.

I could really use some holiday time earlier or later in the year as well, so if I make it a shorter 2 or 3 week trip I should have time for short breaks around the year which frankly I am looking more and more like I need it as the year progresses.

Why does the idea of being Grefter's personal chauffeur appeal to me? I'm trying to imagine the uniform associated with this job. Would it be traditionally spiffy with a tophat and monocle, or would it involve a flamethrower?

As far as easy places to fly from Texas...Atlanta's pretty close--probably about a 2 hour flight. California's probably more like 3 hours, but you would probably be well-set-up for the flight home from Cali (whereas the east coast is totally the wrong direction). Yeah, Cali probably makes the most sense with the whole Gate/Jenna/Andrew/LD/Laggy/Monkey combo.

As I mentioned, I'm renting a car if Andrew and I can make it.

This is doubly so because Austin is only ~1.5 hours away from the town I lived in when I was in elementary school, so I might just have to drop by and see it. Because I'm weird like that.

Cue: disappoint at forgoing a central rental; hooray on fighting game tourney; moue at Djinn wanting to change the date...

Actually, on that note. How set are we on our current dates anyway? For all that DJ wants to KILL US by having a con in Texas in mid-August, I personally don't care when it is so long as it doesn't include Father's Day weekend in June.

It is much less the flying so much as the booking the tickets to fly that is being frustrating at the moment, I might actually have to go do the travel agent thing to get it all lined up rather than just booking tickets myself like I have in the past.

Rental car companies like to fuck over people who are under 25, I'd strongly recommend that we draw the car renters from the 25+ crowd to avoid this.

Unsure at this point, would definitely like to come but it does depend on finances.

DO NOT rent a car if you're under 25 and don't have a company that will waive the fee (like USAA does). It pretty much doubles the cost of the rental, and it's so not worth it.

Same note: I am 25+ now, and USAA waives the fee for rentals with Hertz and one or two others anyway. So I'm still renting a car.

Given that we're -not- renting a house, we can afford to be a lot more flexible on dates. As it stands, the main thing holding us to mid-late June is Snow, since his visa arrangements may be hard to get changed (I have no idea). He'll be leaving the US just before the end of June, so the 23-26 is the last weekend he'd be able to join us.

I can get my boyfriend to rent the car as he's older than 25. No problem there.

I'll be very open: I have no flexibility whatsoever in the date when it'll be set, much like Djinn. The months of July and August are completely impossible to even have a vacation due to high season, and there's the added injury of our vacation time being scheduled six months in advance with basically no leeway past the time when it was set. No matter what, I'm making the trip on June, but I can only attend the con if it happens in mid-late June, before the 29th.

Right, well. You may as well cater to Snow's schedule, as from what I understand, he's never gotten to go to a DLCon before.

We'll just have to have a Florida-based wintercon to make up for it. I can probably even host it, but I'll know more about that once I actually get back into the country.

Kinda sad that I won't get to meet Snow, Hal, and Idun, though. *sadface*

I'll be honest; I intend to meet Snow and get out to SF this summer both, and as such if DLC's in July/August I'll probably skip it to do those things instead. August doesn't work terribly well for me anyway, though I could swing July - but regardless, since it seems Snow's times are set, so are mine in effect.

(What, I want a chance to noogie Snow.)

While a part of me would be okay with the con taking place at a later date, experience in Arizona has shown to me that you really, really don't want to have a con in late summer unless you want everyone to get heat stroke in the southwest.
